I didn’t grow up on Clinique products but they have certainly grown on me over the years. Since finding my absolute favorite moisturizer in their brand I’ve started branching out through their skincare & into makeup. Slowly but surely I knew I would make my way to the cult favorite shade Black Honey in some form…& today I’m sharing with you quite a few! After reading a bit about the history of the specific shade I thought a linkup with other beauty lovers would be amazing- different looks & different ages all showing how we wear Clinique’s Black Honey. Since this shade is supposed to be flattering on everyone I thought we would put it to the test!
For a bit of background, Clinique’s Black Honey is their best selling shade of their Almost Lipstick line ever. In fact, Clinique ships one tube of this lipstick every 2 minutes. EVERY 2 minutes. There is a lot of history behind this shade but also a good bit of logical science. Black Honey has remained a best-selling shade for the past decade but was actually released first in 1971. The shade was added to the Clinique Almost Lipstick range in 1989 (the year I was born, were we meant to be or what?) & has spanned generations of women. The color itself is comprised of red, blue, yellow, & orange pigments that mix in a sheer base despite the deep shade you see in the tube. Each woman should have her very own custom color straight from the tube- for every age & ethnicity. With well over 1,000 reviews on Makeup Alley I just had to see why this shade has endured.
In the tube the lipstick & gloss are both quite dark & intimidating. I love a vampy lip but I wouldn’t say it is super flattering on myself. But Black Honey is. The Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey sheers onto my lips to create a hue that is what I would describe as a blackened raisin…but sheer. I can wholeheartedly admit I’m in love & I can see what all the fuss is about- this formula is so incredibly comfortable & the color really is uniquely flattering. The feeling really is barely there with the lipstick while the gloss is more noticeable. I’ll be buying more of these lipsticks.
Being the eyeshadow junkie that I am…how could I say no? I also have the Clinique All About Shadow in Black Honey as well as the Clinique Quickliner for Eyes Intense in Intense Black Honey to share. The eyeshadow is a conundrum- a lovely, beautiful riddle. I pride myself in my ability to share actual color breakdowns with you guys but this one will just sound silly- a raisin with burgundy & brown tones…slightly coppery looking cranberry shimmer. I feel ridiculous but that’s what I have for you. & I love it. The eyeliner is a creamy brown-toned raisin- I’m pretty sure of this one. I love the automatic pencil & didn’t have any issues with tugging in my waterline. I’m actually in love with these two products together.
The Clinique Superbalm Moisturizing Gloss in Black Honey was also a surprise…I don’t think I own any of these or I’ve passed them along without giving any a fair shot. This isn’t tacky at all & very much a liquid balm & more sheer than the lipstick. I thought it would be a tacky-feeling lipgloss & I was definitely mistaken. The Clinique Nail Polish in Black Honey wasn’t my favorite. The formula needed some work & I need to use a ridge filler next time. I’ll try it again & include it in some nail art or its own post if I can make it work for me & my nails.
