I really wanted to save this palette until I had used it quite a bit- & now I have! This Smashbox palette here is one that is my absolute go-to for travel so when I saw this…well it was basically made for me! I love palettes like this for when I am in a hurry or, like I said, traveling! I did have one mishap- I lost the brush somehow! Sorry about that! You can see more information on this double-ended brush here. I have several brushes from Smashbox that I love so I’m sure this one is fab too. Anyway- enough rambling! Let’s get into the review!
Developed with Sephora’s Pro Artistry Team, this exclusive #SHAPEMATTERS palette is a chic, portable go-to for sculpting your cheekbones, perfecting your nose, creating an arched brow, and enhancing your eyes with each stroke of alluring color and-richly pigmented liner. It features #SHAPEMATTERS lookbook insert to make contouring your face easy. Achieve a whole new look with these 16 cult-favorite shades—including Aubergine and Sumatra—in silky foolproof formulas.
These three face contouring powders complement a number skintones, and Smashbox’s Photo Op Eye Shadows have won beauty awards for their seamless blendability. (The shadow’s micro-milled powder formula may kick up on the palette, but these long-lasting shades apply smoothly and evenly.) Redefine and set arches with the Brow Tech Powders and wax, and then use the included double-ended brush to contour wider and bolder eyes. This all-in-one palette includes a convenient, full-size mirror.
Basically this palette kills it! The only face product I have to pack powder-wise is blush & I actually prefer that since I change that season to season the most. Probably the most exciting part of this palette for me is that it includes several permanent shades. Aubergine is one of my favorite matte purple shades of all time so it was a fabulous addition especially!
You get 9 eyeshadow shades total including varying finishes. I think all of these shades would be pretty on various skintones as well. Some of my absolute favorites are Aubergine which I’ve loved for years, Platinum which has lovely taupe tones, & Sumatra which is just a gorgeously formulated matte brown. All of these shades below are swatched on bare skin, no primer. These eyeshadows are a bit powdery but they apply & blend beautifully so it is totally worth it for me.
Top row: Vanilla, Totally Nude, & Champagne.
Middle row: Stripped, Posh, & Platinum.
Bottom row: Sumatra, Aubergine, & Blackout.
& now onto the part of the palette that has gotten a lot of attention lately- Smashbox face powders! I personally love their contour powders especially because they work so well on my fair skin. They are lighter & more cool toned which looks more natural. I also like that Smashbox included both a matte & shimmer highlighter which I also use on my eyes. Bronze isn’t my favorite shade swatched but it actually applies much more smoothly with a brush!
Bottom row: Highlight & Glow.
The most surprising part of this palette for me is likely the eyebrow trio! The way this wax is packaged within the palette with the clear plastic flip-up cover? That’s the most brilliant invention ever! Both of the brow shades are cool, taupe toned which are the most universally flattering. If these aren’t a good fit for your brow color then they make nice eyeshadows as well. The wax is the perfect mix of setting & blendable. I’m a big fan & I’m so happy it is clear!
On the left is Taupe & on the right is Soft Brown.
This palette is a big hit for me & I think if you have similar coloring to me you’ll be thrilled as well. If you have deeper skin then you might need to look at this more as an eyeshadow palette & that has be your choice! If you’ve been wanting to try some of the Smashbox permanent shades that are really popular- this is a great way! You can purchase this palette from Sephora here!
