This is a true ruby shade with multi-colored shimmer. It is deeper but because of the ruby shade not too vampy. I usually dislike shimmer-y, glitter-y, or frosted reds but Ruby Star appears to be an exception!

The shimmer actually transfers both onto the swatches & when worn on the lips. Very cool. On the lips it doesn’t look glittery though, more multi-dimensional & luxe. I see more gold than anything else shimmer-wise but it definitely isn’t overpowering. I think the shimmer is actually what makes this shade more wearable & keeps the color itself from falling flat.

The staying power on Ruby Star is actually quite good & although the scent isn’t pleasant it also doesn’t deter me from wearing it. All of the Maybelline Color Sensational shades smell the same so I’ve become accustomed. The formula itself isn’t necessarily moisturizing but it isn’t drying either, it lays somewhere in between. I don’t have to moisturize before application which is kind of how I decide on that. It remains comfortable & doesn’t require a gloss topper. The finish itself looks moisturizing for the first hour then appears as more of a satin.
