When it comes to colors I really dig purple. I love greens as a very close second but purple is my jam. It is so exciting that drugstore brands like Maybelline are jumping on the vibrant & super bold purple lip trend & I was sucked into buying 3 products from their Fall 2013 display. There are other glosses & 2 more lipsticks but they either looked to close to shades I know I have multiples of or just weren’t for me. Keep reading to see my thoughts & lip swatches!
I wouldn’t call any of these shades all that wearable but I don’t always want that honestly. These shades are in your face & completely different from most of the other shades at the drugstore. Despite the odd playdough type scent of the Maybelline Color Sensational lipsticks I actually really like the formula of their lipsticks normally. They aren’t too drying or slick & last for a decent wear time. I love the Maybelline Color Sensational High Shine Lip Gloss range & I think I own around 8-10 of them in the permanent range.
Swatches left to right:
Maybelline Color Sensational High Shine Lip Gloss in 295 Purple Royale, Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in 1000 Lavender Voltage, & Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in 1005 Midnight Plum.
Here is a shot of my bare lips for reference. You can see I’m pretty darn fair & my lips are pretty light as well. If you look closely I also have some light freckles on my lips.
Maybelline Color Sensational High Shine Lip Gloss in 295 Purple Royale- This is a true purple gloss. I find this make my lips look a bit like they have a jelly finish. I’m thinking this will be a topper gloss because on its own the formula tends to settle into my lines.
Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in 1000 Lavender Voltage- This is a true purple, even more so than the pictures let on. I love it & the formula is fab! I’ll definitely be comparing this shade to some others in my stash so stay tuned for that. You’ll be able to see it is way more purple in real life!
Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in 1005 Midnight Plum- This lipstick is such a nice, dark fall shade but man did I have trouble with the formula. I thought it might be a dupe of one of my favorite Laura Mercier shades but no-go. I don’t usually have trouble applying darker shades but this slipped all over & you can see it immediately bled into my lines noticeably. This definitely needs a base to adhere to.
A purple frenzy of lips! I will do some swatch & compares for these lipsticks & hopefully have that post up tomorrow. I don’t have anything quite similar enough to this gloss so if you like it, I suggest snapping it up. If you love purple lips then run out & grab Lavender Voltage ASAP! I think when you see it nextto other shades it will POW you into seeing how much more purple it is! For me, Midnight Plum just takes a lot of work which just isn’tfor me Plus,
