With my lip/hand swatches of the new Maybelline Limited Edition Fall 2013 purple lip colors came a promise for comparisons! Today I’m showing you a few side by sides plus my quick purple ombre above.
I went through my collection & picked a few shades that were either close (which was super hard) or in the same color family. I wanted to be sure to take note of texture, finish, & tones as well so you can see notes on all of those things below. Also the shades I have elsewhere on the blog in reviews are linked in the lists below for reference. If you missed my full review on these Maybelline Fall 2013 Limited Edition shades I suggest checking it out here!
Maybelline Color Sensational LE Fall 2013 Lipstick in 1000 Lavender Voltage Comparison
Swatches left to right: Maybelline Vivid Lipstick in 905 Brazen Berry, Maybelline Vivid Lipstick in 900 Hot Plum, Maybelline Lipstick in 1000 Lavender Voltage, & Covergirl Lipstick in 330 Divine.
I think this photo shows just how purple Lavender Voltage is. The Maybelline Vivid shades can’t even touch it! You can plainly see Maybelline Hot Plum veers more pink than the others. Maybelline Brazen Berry & Covergirl Divine have very similar tones but Divine is lighter & looks a bit more creamy. Maybelline Lavender Voltage is a perfect addition to my collection & if you love purple then you need it!
Maybelline Color Sensational LE Fall 2013 Lipstick in 1005 Midnight Plum Comparison
Swatches left to right: Rimmel Kate Lasting Finish Lipstick in 04, Laura Mercier Creme Smooth Lip Color in Merlot, Maybelline Lipstick in 1005 Midnight Plum, & Milani Gold Lipstick in 21 Sangria.
Because I wasn’t a big fan of the Maybelline Midnight Plum formula I tried really hard to come up with some shades that were at least close-ish. It was rough. I don’t own many plums that are this dark & my favorite actually turned out to be the closest, Rimmel Kate Lasting Finish Lipstick in 04 is one I reached for a lot this past fall. It lasts a long time, doesn’t travel outside my lip line, & I don’t really have to layer it for pigmentation. The formula isn’t as moisturizing/glossy as the Maybelline but I definitely prefer the Rimmel shade. You can see Laura Mercier Merlot is…well…more of a wine shade! & Milani Sangria is more of a berry in comparison to these vampy hues.
So there you have it! I am really glad you can see how totally purple Maybelline Lavender Voltage is & to show an option instead of the Maybelline Midnight Plum which I had to really work with. What do you think? Any of these shades appeal to you?
