If you read my post on the new limited edition Maybelline Color Tattoo in Precious Pearl then you knew this post was coming. Maybelline Color Tattoos are just plain awesome, the only bad thing about them is that they can’t call be permanent! This collection brings about duochromes…let those angels sing. I passed on two shades (a yellow & an icy lavender) but I did pick up 5 which you can see below!
Left to right: Maybelline Color Tattoos in Blue Paradise, Seashore Frosts, Icy Mint, Waves of White, & Cool Crush.
Each photo of the shade in the pot is in natural light & then with flash because sometimes that brings out different tones.
Maybelline Color Tattoo in Cool Crush- Iced silvered purple/blue. On the eye you can really see the lavander with a bit of blue shift. I like this one but the shift isn’t super strong. Very pretty though! A bit thin in texture.
Maybelline Color Tattoo in Waves of White- A white shimmer with a somewhat strong teal duochrome. You can also see hints of pink & blue. A bit thin in texture.
Maybelline Color Tattoo in Seashore Frosts- An instant favorite & the most duochromed of them all. You’ll see a blue/gray base with a bronze/gold/rose gold shift. Really stunning. The easy favorite as this is opaque in one swipe.
Maybelline Color Tattoo in Icy Mint- A muted frosted mint, no duochrome. This shade is very thin…so much so that I think it won’t get used much. Definitely needs to be layered or used as a base to get the true shade to show up.
Left to right: Maybelline Color Tattoos in Blue Paradise, Seashore Frosts, Waves of White, Cool Crush & on the bottom is Icy Mint because it just isn’t as cool right? Ha! I kid, just because it has zero shift.
You can definitely tell many of these shades aren’t as dense as the original Maybelline Color Tattoos (you can see my post on those here & here are some of the limited edition shades too: Fall 2013 shades, Summer 2012 Jewel Tones, & the now permanent Metal Collection ) but that is fine with me. I don’t mind layering for that duochrome effect. To layer these try to let it completely set before adding another coat of color on the eye or else you’re more likely to have patchy areas or creasing.
My favorites from this collection are definitely Seashore Frosts (helloooo duochrome!) & Waves of White. If you want something close to Waves of White in a pink form, you should check out my swatches of the new L’Oreal Limited Edition Infallible shades for Strawberry Blonde!
What do you think of these shades? Do you love duochromes? Which is your favorite?
