Hair is one of my first categories that I totally bail on in a hurry. I always know that my signature large, super high bun with a bow is a favorite. Easy. Simple. & I practically have muscle memory to accomplish it. One of my goals this fall/winter was to wear my hair down more…something the Vegas heat doesn’t accommodate much of the year. So here are 3 products that have really made it into my routine (along with a SUPER sequined headband!) that have made a difference!
I’ve had a hair tie on my wrist practically from the womb. My hair is very thick but also super fine…it isn’t something most brands focus on. You basically fall into 2 categories when shopping- fine & thin or thick & coarse. Things have lightened up a bit within the past few years but still…not much is made for me. So I wear my hair up instead of buying a bunch of hair products over & over. It has become habit- especially since I found the Sugar Twists that actually hold my hair up without pain or tangling. Or breakage. Milk + Sass also makes one of my favorite travel brushes that I’ve kind of rediscovered… Basically I packed my old one in a “travel carryall emergency bag” & out of sight, out of mind. When this new one showed up – I immediately added it to my diaper bag or my purse!
So what makes this a winner? The Milk + Sass Compact Travel Macaroon Brush with Mirrored Case is pretty much perfect. The shape makes it easy to hold without added bulk & the soft finish is also comfortable. But the real winner of the macaroon design is the lid! Yes, a brush with a mirrored lid! I find myself not carrying powder/face products with me very often but I DO want a mirror & this is perfect! This is the Gold metallic option but they have tons of others- I’d really like to get my hands on the turquoise & mint ones too! According to their website: Works magic on straight, wavy, curly, thin, light to medium thicker natural hair. NOT SUITABLE FOR THICK CURLY HAIR. So please do keep that in mind! From what I know about thick, very curly hair…brushes like this aren’t the desired method anyway since it would break up the body & curve!
Another travel staple is this FHI Heat® Mini Travel Iron in Rose Gold. I wasn’t nearly as excited about this. I usually try not to heat style my hair & I also don’t really dig a harsh straight look on me very often. But this grew on me! Despite being a mini, this heats up to 440ºF & has a 5 ft cord. I had a mini years ago that barely gave me any cord to work with & while compact…it wasn’t exactly functional. So what do I like about this one if I rarely straighten my hair? It is the PERFECT size to create body & wave in my hair! I frequently use hair straighteners or flat irons to curl my hair but this is so much faster if I just want to amp up the front sections! Plus…I’ll admit…I’m a sucker for rose gold. You can pick this up on the FHI site here but I HIGHLY recommend checking out Kohls or Bed Bath & Beyond first because you can score some awesome coupons or discounts!
& last up- an actual hair product! The brand reached out & because I’m so fine-haired …detanglers are a must. I love them but they’re certainly not all created equally. I tried out the product, gave feedback on packaging, & this is the final update! I am quite pleased with the packaging & performance! This is the Milk + Sass MILK FOR HAIR Anti-Frizz Leave-In Detangler Spray. One of my favorite things- you can actually purchase a 2oz size or 4oz size off Amazon. So often brands only offer a regular size or a HUGE size & to invest that must not knowing if I like a product is rare- but the price tag for a 2oz is quite reasonable!
I genuinely think I’d forgotten how much a detangler can help because I’ve really fallen into using hair masks & oils. But they aren’t the same thing! Somehow this manages to be incredibly lightweight & not oily (fine hair, remember?) despite containing Hawaiian KuKui Nut Oil + Vitamin E as key ingredients. I use this on freshly washed hair then comb through. This does have a rose scent so if you’re sensitive to that I’m hoping they come out with more scent options!
Other notes: The dress I’m wearing here is from Sydney’s Closet Simply the Best Party Dress (see me wearing it on @homeinhighheels instagram here or head to Home in High Heels because I’ll be posting on the fashion blog too!) & the gorgeous statement cocktail ring is designed by Sergio Andrés Mendoza of Pharaoun. This is the We are Beautiful Cocktail Ring & he’s donating 100% of the purchase price of my We are Beautiful ring to Southerners on New Ground (southernersonnewground.org), an amazing organization dedicated to civil rights. This headband/wrap is a fully sequined & beaded headwrap that I actually fell in love with but unfortunately Zara no longer carries it. But you can find some similar options on Amazon here! The beautiful custom name necklace in rose gold is from Sincerely Silver which I highly recommend! These are 2 options stacked!
Do you have a go-to updo that you can throw together in a hurry? What products have you been loving? What hairstyles do you gravitate towards- up or down?
