Do you ever wonder how bloggers ended up blogging full-time? Such a large part is dedicated to educating yourself & immersing yourself into the business world. Sure, my job looks super glamorous from the outside (hello, I literally review blush & lip gloss sometimes!) but there is a lot of behind the scenes action that goes into it. You have to make the first step though! Are you ready to jump into a new career that will brighten your future? I was definitely ready to do something I’d love every day!
The first thing to do is determine if you’re ready to take on the business side of things. If you’re planning to go at it full time, business knowledge is an absolute must. Be ready to take on a completely professional outlook on what might have once been a hobby. Are you ready to do this full time? Are you ready to leave your current job? I was lucky enough to start out blogging young (although I wish it had been earlier!) so I was definitely ready for a positive change that I could control. I went to school and also looked up specific courses that interested me and would help me in the future.
Create a space perfect for success. Transitioning to working at home can be really difficult. I highly recommend you treat your home like an office. Look for a specific schedule that works for you. When I first started I’d write at all hours of the day and night. Eventually I realized I was missing out on family time or letting things slide by. If you keep regular business hours, take work breaks, and make sure to eat meals, you’ll develop a more comfortable routine. This helps a lot in schooling as well. Courses on accounting, English, writing, public speaking, & photo editing would be very helpful both immediately and in the long-term.
Having complete control over your future can be a bit intimidating but planning is key. Learning the business side of blogging isn’t something I learned overnight- it took a lot work. Learning to pitch myself, knowing my worth, and managing costs were all new to me. Never undersell yourself. It’s absolutely manageable & absolutely worth it. I can’t imagine not doing this now and couldn’t be happier. I think that is the most important thing when choosing a new career- look for things that will truly benefit you and make sure your education will improve your future. I can’t think of one instance where I thought, “Man, I sure wish I wasn’t this educated!” Seriously guys, that doesn’t happen.
