This little baby has been on my brows a lot lately- & with good reason. The NYX Eyebrow Gels are not only the first of their kind from the drugstore…but also a close dupe to the pricier Make Up For Ever options. I’ve actually had this shade for months & it was perfect in the humid months- they really last! I’ve found my favorite way to apply & lots of details which will be below!
So let’s talk about the packaging- think of this as an OCC Lip Tar for brows. You have here a squeeze tub that definitely isn’t what you want to take to your brows. NYX calls this product a “pigmented, lightweight brow gel” & say the results will be “defined, shapely brows”. Also they say it will be “natural looking brows”. While I don’t exactly agree with that necessarily because these are definitely my most opaque while not looking crazy brow products. If you caught one of my favorite demos (My Drugstore Brow Routine) then you already know I need some brow help due to medical thinness & a scar. Please keep these things in mind as I review because you may not want the same things I do! So let’s get into the demo & I’ll break down how I apply below.
So here is my bare brow- a very sad sight indeed. As I’d said in the past, I have hypothyroidism. Basically my brows are thinner than they used to be- especially at the tails. I also have thinning in the beginning- so filling them in is important. I also have a small, old scar here so hair doesn’t grow there period. To be frank- my brows are difficult.
Here is my eyebrow with just the NYX Eyebrow Gel in Blonde. I apply this the same way every time after finally finding a method that works for me. I apply a small dot to my hand- the smaller the better in fact. I then dip in an angled brow brush lightly & run a line down my hand once so I don’t apply too much. It is honestly super easy to apply way too much for me even now after months of learning. I start with my arch & then shape my brows. This doesn’t set nearly as quickly as the Make Up For Ever Aqua Brow thank goodness so I take the time to use a brow comb which really helps shape & even out.
& here I am with my eye makeup on! The main thing I like about this product is it doesn’t budge once it sets- no really- it is waterproof!I have a tendency to rest my fingertips against the tips of my brows (so weird I know!) & this stays on! When one of your brows fades/smudges you look silly- trust me. You really have to remember to brush this gel out or else it looks like you took a chunk of wax to your brow. Not good!
Will the NYX Eyebrow Gels be for everyone? I don’t think so. If you want a bold brow, need something that withstands, or have scars/gaps like I do then I think you’ll appreciate this product. It definitely has a learning curve but it is reasonably priced, comes with a ton of product, & the tones aren’t warm which is hard for me to find. NYX currently has five shades in this line- but that’s where things get pretty weird. I think these products might be being discontinued? I know I ordered mine on the ULTA website- who no longer carries it. Target carries NYX now…but not this product. Even NYX themselves say they’re out of stock…of every shade? The only place I can find them is on Amazon- so that’s where I’ll link you now! I really hope I’m wrong because I love this especially in the tail of my brow!
Have you used any of the NYX Eyebrow Gels? What is your favorite brow product? What are your brow concerns?
