Wantable is a new to me subscription that has three options: beauty, intimates, & accessories. There is a very in depth quiz (more on that below!) that gears your interests then your box is shipped out full of mystery items promising to be worth $80-$100 in value. Was it worth it & what did I get? keep reading to find out!
Let’s talk the basics first: As a subscription, Wantable is $36 a month. Not interested in monthly? You can buy a single box for $40 which isn’t too big of a difference really. My box got here really quick too, not really much waiting. Inside there was a basic info card, a full page printout with shipping information, my likes/dislikes highlighted, product information, & retail pricing. They also reiterate that if you have problems you can return your box for a refund without hassle. I also wanted to note that they use foam to pack things which is handy.
Okay now onto the quiz! Here’s a screenshot of my in depth blush likes/dislikes. This is by far the most specialized makeup quiz I’ve taken for a subscription & I was left feeling they would really know what I liked. Note the sidebars that you can shift from love, like, or dislike.
For reference, I marked that I Love blush, highlighter, lip color, nail polish & eyeshadow Like brows & bronzer Dislike eyeliner, last products, & tools.
Inside my box I received 5 products & one sample. Inside was a lip color, nail polish, eyeliner brush, blush, brow shadow, & a sample which I’ll show at the end. I’ll also show you swatches at the end of all the products as well.
Lise Watier Haute Couleur High Coverage Lip Lacquer in Rouge Catwalk retails for $22
I’ve been wanting to try something (anything really) from Lise Watier for quite awhile now so I was pretty excited to see this in my box. I really like the packaging: a mirror on the side, light up wand, firm but flexible applicator… Sadly my light doesn’t work at all. Boo. Anyway the texture is lovely (see swatches below) although I wouldn’t refer to it as high coverage, maybe medium? I tried building it up to full but it started getting that “you’re loading up your lips too much & it is totally going to end up all over your face” feeling. I love that it isn’t a stain but still stays put. I love stains but I have to constantly check on them & once they travel you’re pretty much goofy-mouthed for the rest of the day. This red has a slight shimmer that makes your lips look even shinier & is very comfortable to wear.
WhipHand Cheek Flash Loose Blush in Beachhouse retails for $18
I went back & checked my quiz & I did mark that I liked (not loved) shimmer or loose blush. This looks like something I would have worn when I was younger, you can definitely see it better in the swatches below. It isn’t a very big blush (about the size of most loose pigments) which makes it hard to dip your brush in, especially since you can only open half of the container. It is impossible not to make a mess tapping off excess unless you apply blush with an eyeshadow brush honestly. This just isn’t a shade I’ll reach for, it is super shimmery & light plus I usually don’t have time to deal with a mess that doesn’t need to be made. I might try it as a highlighter.
Japonesque Travel Flat Eyeliner Brush retails for $11
So let’s just get this out of the way shall we? Not only did I say I did not want eyeliner…but also not tools. Doesn’t this totally contradict that? Pretty much. I actually like & own many Japonesque products but this one will likely end up floating in a drawer somewhere. I probably would have used it with cream liners except I just don’t reach for travel size brushes, they have nowhere to live in my stash that makes me reach for them. So much for never receiving products I disliked right?
Rainbow Honey Nail Lacquer in Lumine Hall retails for $10
This is an indigo slight jelly polish packed with shimmer & iridescent square glitter. Thrilled! I would have never thought I’d get a polish this cool & new to me in a subscription! Here’s a link to my swatches on the nail + a look at it matte!
FACE Stockholm Brow Shadow in Bjork retails for $24
I was pretty darn excited about this product! Not only have I never tried a FACE Stockholm product but I use brow powder on a daily basis. It is my go to brow choice so that I don’t look like a patchy-browed freakazoid. This is a also a very generous pan, it is between a MAC eyeshadow & a Nivea Lip Butter in size. For me personally, this is a miss. The product itself is dry so when I touch my brush to it…crumbles everywhere. Also, this is way too warm toned for me & probably most people. I prefer a neutral/taupe type shade. This made my brows look more like that of a redhead which would be fine except I’m blonde. I will say I quite like this shade & texture as an eyeshadow so likely that will be how it lives the duration in my stash. It is really hard to blend as an eyeshadow (it was definitely made to stay put) but with a light hand I can make it work.
UPDATE: Gave this to my mom who is new to brow powder & has darker, warmer brows that me. She loves it!
Swatches left to right: FACE Stockholm Brow Shadow in Bjork, WhipHand Cheek Flash Loose Blush in Beachhouse, Lise Watier Haute Couleur High Coverage Lip Lacquer in Rouge Catwalk, & a quick look at
Rainbow Honey Nail Lacquer in Lumine Hall.
Lise Watier Ombre Souffle Supreme Sample was also included in my box which was nice! I think it might be a tad hard to tell but only the two middle shades are samples. Pretty!
So all in all, I am left feeling in the median. The Rainbow Honey lacquer is to die for & the Lise Watier lippie is divine. The WhipHand blush just isn’t for me & the FACE Stockholm brow powder is just not a good brow shade. Then there is the eyeliner brush…both a tool & an eyeliner product that were specifically on my Dislike list. Hmmm.
I’m trying to decide whether to give this a thumbs up or down. For $36 I could buy the two products I enjoyed & actually have some money leftover, $4 to be exactly. My box totaled to $85 in retail value which is right in the $80-$100 range promised though & if these were products I wanted to all use I would be really happy with that value. It is over 50% off & introduced me to brands I wanted to try & some that were completely new to me. But they also sent me a product that was distinctly on my Dislike list after promising in multiple areas that wouldn’t happen.
I’m left unsure. I think I’d need to give this another go to see if I got more targeted items but for $36 I’m hesitant. What do you guys think? Should I give Wantable another go or pass? What would you think if this was your box & they sent you something you wouldn’t use?
UPDATE: So I held off posting this until I had heard back from Wantable to see what they would do about the issue. They asked me a few times if I had changed my answers since the box had shipped ( FYI I hadn’t) then assured me they would send a replacement product.
I received the Lise Watier Eyeshadow in Aubergine which is pretty exciting. This eyeshadow is worth $18 on its own & is called a Solo Eyeshadow Powder. From what I can see from the info sheet, this is supposed to be a sheer eyeshadow that can be built up to be opaque. Basically, controlled color. Very pretty (& me!) shade!
In the end, this is a pricey subscription but I did receive some worthwhile products. I think because it is new, they’re still working out some kinks which is to be expected. They assured me they were resolving the whole eyeliner/tool issue which is great. I love the custom idea of this box, very cool idea. Specifics are much better when you’re paying for something mysterious obviously.Wantable impressed me overall after they fixed that one issue. I’m not sure if my replacement product was something they usually send or it was kind of an apology because it made my box worth quite a bit. I can see women of all ages really enjoying this idea & am pretty happy with the results.
What do you think? Will you check out Wantable? Why or why not?
