Dollar Nail Art (Mostly Epic Foils!) Haul!

June 14, 2013 By StephanieLouise 403Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F06%2Fdollar-nail-art-mostly-epic-foils-haul.htmlDollar+Nail+Art+%28Mostly+Epic+Foils%21%29+Haul%212013-06-14+23%3A07%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F06%2Fdollar-nail-art-mostly-epic-foils-haul.html

So…in a way…this is kind of a requested post. So often you guys ask where I get my nail supplies & so often I feel like a schmuck. Usually nail art gems/tools/glitters are something I stumble upon, not seek out. I feel like a jerk every time I have to tell you guys random ebay seller/random gift with purchase/random something or other which isn’t helpful to you at all. Today I bring you a freaking sweet haul from Dollar Nail Art.

I have to say that I’m pretty annoyed I didn’t know about this site before. Almost everything is $1 & if it isn’t then there is a reasonable price. I’m way impressed. All of my item arrived intact & are worth way more than a buck each. I really wish there was a store like this where I could walk through  pick things out in person but these are pretty accurately pictured.

Let’s start with foils! I’m pretty new to foils but I like to have options. I have tons of them now haha. Each of the foils below was $1 except for one set which was even cheaper per bottle. In each foil you get 5 feet (seriously, I unraveled one…don’t do it…takes forever to re-roll!) & they are 1 inch wide. Some of their patterns are permanent & some are limited stock. You just need to check out their foils stock.

 photo DollarNailArtHaul033_zps25e7bcb3.jpg

You also get the foil application glue. All their rules are on the site but if you order a certain amount it is free.

 photo DollarNailArtHaul012_zps966522f8.jpg

I also picked up some laser lace in lime which is gorgeous. I can’t wait to use it.

 photo DollarNailArtHaul013_zps515f5869.jpg
 photo DollarNailArtHaul014_zps716db0ba.jpg

& some heart sequin type doodads. I think they’re adorable.

 photo DollarNailArtHaul011_zps1c36636b.jpg

& I had to pick up a set of rainbow laser strands because they’re pretty gorgeous.

Big haul right? I think I spent a total of $32 for everything. You also get a booklet with instructions for applying everything which is nice. I’m really happy with everything I got. I hope you found this helpful!!!

Sally Hansen Sugar Coat Nail Polish Swatches + Review Part #2

June 14, 2013 By StephanieLouise 404Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F06%2Fsally-hansen-sugar-coat-nail-polish_14.htmlSally+Hansen+Sugar+Coat+Nail+Polish+Swatches+%2B+Review+Part+%2322013-06-14+17%3A42%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F06%2Fsally-hansen-sugar-coat-nail-polish-swatches-review-part-2.html

 photo SallyHansenSugarCoatsSwatchesPart2MainPhoto_zpsa0ee3a20.jpg

So if you saw my swatches from the first half of this collection then you know I really enjoy them. There are some drawbacks but nothing that keeps me from using them. I even have some nail art coming up! These 4 shades from the Sally Hansen Sugar Coat Nail Polishes are the primaries: red, blue, black, & white. Keep reading to see swatches & thoughts!

 photo SallyHansenSugarCoatsSwatchesPart201_zps68b731c0.jpg
 photo SallyHansenSugarCoatsSwatchesPart202_zpsdfc8cf72.jpg

Sugar Fix- Excellent bright white. 2 coats. Super easy to apply. I’m actually really excited…I didn’t expect it to apply this nicely.

 photo SallyHansenSugarCoatsSwatchesPart206_zpsad67c44e.jpg
 photo SallyHansenSugarCoatsSwatchesPart206_zps1cd46a6d.jpg

Razzle-berry- Brightened medium blue. 2 coats. This is a lovely shade & it is brighter than it looks here in photos. This stained around my cuticles.

 photo SallyHansenSugarCoatsSwatchesPart208_zps4b658d9c.jpg
 photo SallyHansenSugarCoatsSwatchesPart207_zps4cf19710.jpg

Lick-O-Rich- A rich black. 2 coats. Perfection. Sorry it looks a bit shiny. Without lighting/flash you couldn’t really see the texture. This one applies really nicely.

 photo SallyHansenSugarCoatsSwatchesPart204_zps31a6b6ea.jpg
 photo SallyHansenSugarCoatsSwatchesPart203_zps9ec375b4.jpg

Cherry Drop- A bright warm red. 2 coats. This one seemed thinner (notice the VNL) & for some reason it took forever to dry down. This might just be my bottle but it dries down better when I use it in nail art than in actual swatches. This shade also stained around my cuticles.

Don’t forget to check my swatches of the more spring-y shades. I like these shades more for the nail art perspective while I wear those on their own. I hope they come out with more from this line with this formula. I’d love to see some shimmers like the Zoya Pixie Dust shades I love so much!

I stick by what I said in my last review: These are very textured, apply grainy, & definitely won’t be for everyone. You apply them without a top coat to keep the texture but I haven’t had issues using a light base coat. It is totally necessary if they are staining shades as well. Again, these shades last very nicely but I don’t keep them on for more than 2-3 days even if they still look good. I find stuff clings to them & if you bake/paint/do something else a bit messy you really have to work to get these clean because it embeds itself a bit. Ew. Just keep that in mind.

What do you think of these shades? Do you prefer them to the spring ones? Are you over texture polishes yet?

Too Faced Intense Eye Shadow in Violet Femme Swatches & Review

June 14, 2013 By StephanieLouise 405Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F06%2Ftoo-faced-intense-eye-shadow-in-violet.htmlToo+Faced+Intense+Eye+Shadow+in+Violet+Femme+Swatches+%26+Review2013-06-14+13%3A45%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F06%2Ftoo-faced-intense-eye-shadow-in-violet-femme-swatches-review.html

 photo DSCN6517_zps54ef4603.jpg
I bought it. Affiliate links.

Love purples? Me too. In fact it is a bit unhealthy. I just adore purple everything. This is my first Too Faced single eyeshadow purchase & after much swatching I knew it needed to come home with me. There are some other shades I have my eye on but I’m happy to say this is my first. If you love purple, shimmer, & something a bit different you’ll likely dig Too Faced Exotic Color Intense Eye Shadow in Violet Femme too.

 photo DSCN6507_zpse879fc97.jpg
 photo DSCN6509_zps2911a8dd.jpg

The packaging itself is quite the standard from Too Faced. Ultra fair pink & gold is what I’ve come to expect. The eyeshadow itself looks like an abstract black flower. I definitely appreciate the peek window so I can see the shade. Pretty but simple. If you are used to square/rectangle shadows this might be a bit of a challenge to store. I took it showing my nail so you can see the size reference. This isn’t all that big.

 photo DSCN6512_zpsa8565818.jpg

When you first pick up this shade, it doesn’t look all that spectacular. It looks like a pretty violet with slight shimmer. Pretty but not out of this world.

 photo DSCN6521_zpse6d321a5.jpg
 photo DSCN6516_zps79433b1e.jpg

Swipe your finger over the shadow for the first time & you’re off to wonderland. The sheen beneath is absolutely crazy! When it hits the light there is not doubt that the gold shines through. It isn’t crazily pigmented but that is actually what I like about this particular shade.

 photo DSCN6528_zpse0caa27f.jpg
 photo DSCN6526_zps6cbb1b33.jpg

When applied, I find you get fallout. Both of the swipes above (one is a heavier swatch while the other is sheered out) are applied dry. I’ll be doing an eye look with this shade wet which is when it really shines. This shade in general applies better wet, spongetip, fingertip, or with a firm brush.

I seriously love this color & only wish I had bought it during spring! I think it is going to be really pretty with some of my bronze shades as well though!

Have you tried this color? Any other Too Faced eyeshadow singles I need in my life?

Joyful Noise Cosmetics Firefly Nail Polish Collection Swatches & Review

June 13, 2013 By StephanieLouise 4061 Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F06%2Fjoyful-noise-cosmetics-firefly-nail.htmlJoyful+Noise+Cosmetics+Firefly+Nail+Polish+Collection+Swatches+%26+Review2013-06-13+13%3A45%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F06%2Fjoyful-noise-cosmetics-firefly-nail-polish-collection-swatches-review.html

 photo JoyfulNoiseFireflyCollectionTrioMainText_zpsb23c403d.jpg
PR Sample

Confession: I’m totally obsessed with Nathan Fillion. From his stint on Buffy to his current role on Castle he’s just too amazing. One of his best projects was Firefly ( & later on, Serenity) & although it was cut short…it holds a special place in my heart. When Laura of Joyful Noise Cosmetics asked me if I’d swatch her trio I was thrilled. I am late late late with these swatches…but I sure hope they were worth the wait!
Each shade is named after a quote from Firefly. If you haven’t seen the show & you’re into scifi (or Nathan Fillion….) then jump into that & educate yourself! All three of the shades definitely have their own personality. Besides these shades being from the same collection…they’re all vastly different! Each of these shades is a mini but they’re also available in full sized bottles.

 photo FireflyTrioJoyfulNoiseSwatches012_zpscc6fc5a0.jpg
 photo JoyfulNoiseFireflyTellMeImPretty_zps52b22f9f.jpg

Tell Me I’m Pretty- A semi sheer bubblegum pink base with a scattering of holo dust & varying micro to medium shades of pink hexes. 2 coats over Essie Fiji. Very girly & oh so pretty. I like it over a base best & Essie Figi is perfect, super fair & doesn’t alter the polish shade.

 photo FireflyTrioJoyfulNoiseSwatches011_zps252fb2b4.jpg
 photo JoyfulNoiseFireflyShiny_zpsae74d96f.jpg

Shiny- Multi colored ultra fine shimmer that leans more blue/purple/pink that comes together as an opal finish. I’m not usually a big fan of opal finishes but I actually really like this one. It flashes more over black but I am really digging it over white! Pointer & pinkie are 3 coats, middle is one coat over black, & ring is one coat over white.

 photo FireflyTrioJoyfulNoiseSwatches013_zps1153ffff.jpg
 photo JoyfulNoiseFireflyBurntheLandBoiltheSea_zps0c159602.jpg
 photo FireflyTrioJoyfulNoiseSwatches015_zpseff7fb54.jpg
 photo FireflyTrioJoyfulNoiseSwatches014_zpsbca223c8.jpg

Burn the Land, Boil the Sea- Medium very reflective silver holo hexes, fine blue glitter, & holo dust in a  sheer blackend base. 2 coats over black. My favorite because I’m such a sucker for super holo glitter. Along with the layering of blue & fine holo dust this polish is gorgeous. Boil the sea indeed!

For those of you who don’t know, Joyful Noise (formally Nails by Laura) was the first indie polish brand I’ve ever reviewed. I think we were both newish to our professional passions & I feel like we’ve kind of grown together. I now consider her a friend which is how she even knew I dug Firefly. To be fair, I was one of the people chanting for her to start obsessing about Dr. Who. I sincerely hope she’ll create a Dr. Who inspired line…& maybe even let me help! As into makeup & fashion as I am I am definitely a geek girl at heart.

To purchase Joyful Noise Cosmetics nail polishes ( & other beauty items like lippies & bath products!) you can visit her store on Etsy. She has quite a few new polishes that I’m jittering over! Summery too! She has these 3 shades labeled as limited edition so if you want them grab them while you can!

Which shade is your favorite? Are you a Firefly fan? What show/books/movies would you like to see turned into a polish line?

Mod Lacquer in Technicolor Noise Swatches & Review

June 12, 2013 By StephanieLouise 407Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F06%2Fmod-lacquer-in-technicolor-noise.htmlMod+Lacquer+in+Technicolor+Noise+Swatches+%26+Review2013-06-12+23%3A16%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F06%2Fmod-lacquer-in-technicolor-noise-swatches-review.html

 photo ModLacquerTechnicolorNoiseSwatches06_zps07672ba9.jpg

Ready for a nail polish indie? It has been awhile hasn’t it! This was the first polish I ever purchased from Mod Lacquer & I’m quite happy that I get to share it with you tonight. I don’t think I need to explain what drew me to this polish…I just love it. This is bright summer lights in a bottle!

 photo ModLacquerTechnicolorNoiseSwatches01_zps05d31b81.jpg
 photo ModLacquerTechnicolorNoiseSwatches04_zps03c48a40.jpg
 photo ModLacquerTechnicolorNoiseSwatches03_zps9c221391.jpg

Mod Lacquer Technicolor Noise- Micro hexes in bright blue, lime green, extra small hexes in tomato red, then small to medium lime green, bright blue, & hot pink hexes suspended in a clear base. Top coat is Sally Hansen Insta-Dri & the black base is Wet n Wild Black Creme.

The first thing I want to say is wow. It is gorgeous & I seriously took like 50 photos. Application was a breeze. This is 2 coats over black with a top coat. I did a few light sponging here & there for perfect glitter placement. I’ve had this shade for almost a month & it hasn’t settled. I am so impressed with this base.

 photo ModLacquerTechnicolorNoiseSwatches05_zps18cfcd67.jpg
 photo ModLacquerTechnicolorNoiseSwatches02_zps16591cf6.jpg

This glitter combination is absolute perfection & the red really makes it pop. I would’ve never thought to add it myself! The bottle shape & brush are also quite nice. You can see other shades I hauled in this post along with some Shimmer Polishes.

I am wowed. I am more than happy. & I had a really hard time taking it off not because it is a glitter but because I could wear it for ages. You can purchase this shade & others from the Mod Lacquer Etsy shop. I bought a full size but she also has minis available. She also has a new summer collection which I’d really love to get my claws on! There are also some stunning shimmers although I am just head over heels for the glitters.

The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer Highlighter Review & Swatches

June 12, 2013 By StephanieLouise 408Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F06%2Fthe-balm-mary-lou-manizer-highlighter.htmlThe+Balm+Mary-Lou+Manizer+Highlighter+Review+%26+Swatches2013-06-12+20%3A59%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F06%2Fthe-balm-mary-lou-manizer-highlighter-review-swatches.html

 photo TheBalmMary-LouManizerReviewSwatches04_zps137a102a.jpg

I bought it. Affiliate links.

A few days ago I reviewed Frat Boy Blush from The Balm & I promised you more. Today I am delivering! I’d like to start out with this: I have only even gone through & repurchased one powder highlighter & this is it. With that being said, you’ll be sure I have a lot of experience & opinions on it!

 photo TheBalmMary-LouManizerReviewSwatches05_zps1447277b.jpg

The Balm’s Mary-Lou Manizer is like a best friend. You go shopping together, double date, attend event, & do all the things best friends do. She is a lot like me! Bolder than most with the ability to get along with everyone. If she has enemies, they’re probably just not her type. If you love a bolder highlight, Mary-Lou might be your new best friend too.

I lost this highlighter when we made our military move. Either the guy broke it & tossed it so I wouldn’t scream or he had a wife at home that needed a glow. Either way, she was going going gone. I tried to live my life without her. I tried to let her live her own life. I even made new best friends (like the gorgeously natural It Cosmetics creme highlighter I reviewed here!) but they just weren’t Mary-Lou. No one quite made me glow like her.

 photo maryloumanizerswatchesreview09_zpsbd774c28.jpg

The packaging from The Balm in general is just beautiful. This highlighter is so good girls gone bad. I love touched like this, it really makes products special for me.

If you want a highlight that is bold, will work on tons of skin tones, & is pretty neutral with a touch of gold then this is it. Get ready to leave other shades in the dark while you get acquainted. You can apply her anywhere I suppose but make sure you use a very light hand to begin. Who am I kidding? Do whatever you want, there are no makeup rules here. But seriously, the pigmentation is ridiculous.

 photo TheBalmMary-LouManizerReviewSwatches07_zps3aae5788.jpg

You can see in the sunlight that the fine goldness looks terrifying & more like an eyeshadow. Well, actually, you can use it as an eyeshadow. But as a highlight with a light hand you’re bound for greatness. Make sure you really buff her out for a smooth finish.

 photo TheBalmMary-LouManizerReviewSwatches08_zps1621952f.jpg

Left is a finger swatch & right it is lightly blended. You can see it is more beige than most highlighters & definitely can be used an eyeshadow. When I’m traveling, I use it as both. This is in sunlight.

This is for the  girl who wants her cheek bones & glow to really pop. This is not for the meek or timid nor the shy. This is for your inner bombshell. Mary-Lou Manizer can be your bestie too.

You can purchase The Balm’s Mary-Lou Manizer from Nordstrom & wherever The Balm products are sold.

Have you tried this highlight? Want to? What is your favorite highlighter?

Tropical Heat Eyeshadow Tutorial using the Smashbox Heat Wave Palette!

When I reviewed the Smashbox Heat Wave Palette I had already decided a tutorial had to happen. I don’t do many foiled tutorials but they are always really pretty. This is a pretty easy tutorial & although it involves quite a few shades it is easier with a wet brush. At the end, you’ll have a lovely tropical eye look! Keep reading to find out how & a list of all products used!

Get the Look:
I went ahead & took my swatches & labeled them. They are in the same order as in the palette. If you need a refresher on anything about the palette, check out my full review here!

I recommend doing your eye makeup before foundation to avoid fallout. Use an eyeshadow base, I used the Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer. Apply shade #2 foiled as your base shade. Blend out with a bit of shade #7 on the outer corner. Foil shade #4 & apply the inner corner & under the lashline about 1/3 of the way. Blend with a bit of dry up to the crease staying towards the front of the eye. Apply shade #8 along the base of your lashline for the outer 2/3 of your under eye foiled & flip the edge out a bit. Blend blend blend! Make sure you especially blend your lower lashline, use on of the shades dry if necessary for a clean line. Take shade #1 dry lightly & blend up onto the brow bone & along crease edges. Finish with liner & mascara.

Ready to Upgrade & Win with Schick Hydro Silk?

June 11, 2013 By StephanieLouise 410Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F06%2Fready-to-upgrade-win-with-schick-hydro.htmlReady+to+Upgrade+%26+Win+with+Schick+Hydro+Silk%3F2013-06-11+13%3A14%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F06%2Fready-to-upgrade-win-with-schick-hydro-silk.html

 photo SchickHydroSilkRazor011_zps0dff62f8.jpg
I remember back when I used cheap disposable razors. They were stiff, didn’t last very long, & they definitely seemed to nick me regardless of what shaving aid I used. I’m sure they are better these days but now I stick with what I know works. Does it cost a bit more? Actually… not really. There is an upfront cost but the Schick Hydro Silk® blades definitely last me a nice long time without any issue & adding in some much needed moisture.
As I get older (& wiser…right?)I’ve learned that upgrading things in my life can often be a blessing in disguise. Sometimes you just need a little upgrade, sometimes a major one. A bag whose handles keep unhooking? Upgrade. A blush that just doesn’t last until lunch? Upgrade! That cheating boyfriend? UPGRADE HUNNY! Sometimes taking action & upping your game is exactly what your life needs to become brighter & even more fabulous.
 photo Kohls-Elle-Bag_zpse93a7cf7.jpg
Here’s my bag that I picked up from Kohl’s on sale. Score! I bought it because I love black bags & wanted a but of a different style. I love cross body bags for when I’m doing errands & running around. Great! So what is the problem? Do you spy those little clips on the strap? The ones that keep you from looking foolish when it snaps open to unclip while you’re trying to pay for an obscene amount of nail polish in public with a line behind you? Trust me, after having this happen more than once I recognized the need for an upgrade with a strap that functions.
 photo bbs_embellished_flap_over_bag_zpse0b955ab.jpg
Cue this beautiful bag from BALIBELTS Studio. This Embellished Flap Over Satchel that I saved up for with my own dough. Beautiful. Classy. Doesn’t unhook in public to make me look like a crazy nail polish lady. Ah what a sweet upgrade. I’ll still use the old bag but only as a hand held which I don’t use as much. I’m all for a great deal but it isn’t a deal if it doesn’t work!
 photo Schick-Hydro-Silk-Razor-02_zps8b54ca92.jpg
 photo Schick-Hydro-Silk-Razor-01_zps2d9be521.jpg

The Schick Hydro Silk Razor is my fallback. Because I’m constantly trying out new things I don’t always know will be for me, you need a fallback you can count on. With 5 Curve-Sensing Blades to give me a close shave, comfortable soft touch handle, & water activated moisturizing serum I know this razor has me covered.

In comes Schick with an upgrade for YOU, are you ready? Announcing Razorvention™ Revamp, brought to you by Schick Hydro Silk® razor. Estee Lauder Limited Edition Pure Color Blush in Naughty Swatches & Review

June 11, 2013 By StephanieLouise 411Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F06%2Festee-lauder-limited-edition-pure-color.htmlEstee+Lauder+Limited+Edition+Pure+Color+Blush+in+Naughty+Swatches+%26+Review2013-06-11+13%3A01%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F06%2Festee-lauder-limited-edition-pure-color-blush-in-naughty-swatches-review.html

I bought it. Affiliate links.

When it comes to blush, I definitely have a type. While I tend to wear lots of soft shades that are easy to layer I always go for the bad boy. Limited edition Estee Lauder Pure Color Blush in Naughty is from the Pure Color Pops Collection created by Tom Pecheaux. Keep reading to see the crazy beautiful pigmentation on this darling!

 photo EsteeLauderBlushNaughtySwatchesReview02_zpsc32cdf4b.jpg
 photo EsteeLauderBlushNaughtySwatchesReview03_zpse7dfc4cc.jpg

When it comes to summer, I like something bold. bold lips, bold eyes, & bold cheeks all fit into my routine. Estee Lauder Pure Color Blush in Naughty comes in a blue box, your standard Estee Lauder packaging. The compact itself is a metallic gold & has the logo on the front. Inside you get a small blush brush.

 photo EsteeLauderBlushNaughtySwatchesReview05_zpsbc35ae76.jpg

The product itself is fairly large. For reference, a MAC blush has 6 grams/0.21 oz while this Estee Lauder blush contains 7 grams/0.24 oz. I love how wide & flat this is, perfect for a fluffy blush brush. It is ultra pigmented, less is definitely more.

Top photo is in shade. Bottom is in sunlight.

You can see I wasn’t joking around about the pigmentation! This shade is a vibrant red based coral/orange. The texture is pretty amazing. Super smooth & fine milled. This shade blends out beautifully & evenly. This also has very nice wear time! Beautiful, true satin finish.

Here I am wearing it in an upcoming tutorial photo. This is my Smashbox Heat Wave Palette (see my review here!) tutorial which will be up soon!Obviously I used a really light hand because my eyes are so colorful but that shows some versatility!

You can purchase this blush from Macys. I’m not sure how long it will be available because it was apparently released in May.

What do you think of shades like this? What kind of vibrant hues are you leaning towards for summer?

I’m honestly not quite sure what to call this! I’ve seen it popping up here & there & after I swatched the two polishes I bought from the Essie Naughty Nautical Summer 2013 collection I knew they needed to come together somehow. Keep reading to see more photos!

With the way the colors came together, I thought they kind of looked like clouds? Maybe? A little? The Essie brush was perfect for this technique. I really found this an easy & quick nail art technique I could do while I accomplishes other things.
