I bought it. Affiliate links.

If you can remember back to my review of the original Baby Lips back in 2011 & even some of my limited edition Maybelline Baby Lips posts then you’d know I am a big fan. I like the feel, the tint, & even the scent on the originals. Maybelline has brought us something new though- the Maybelline Baby Lips Dr. Rescue Medicated Balms. I picked up 3 shades & have my final thoughts all ready for you. Keep reading to see what I thought + lip swatches!

Apply in the center of your upper lip to the outer edges, following the contours of your mouth. Then glide across the entire bottom lip. Can be worn under lip color

I wanted to make sure & get alllll of those claims up there before I continue so you can see what Maybelline had intended. I feel like a lot of reviews are angry because these shades aren’t as pigmented- but they weren’t supposed to be.  I’m going by what Maybelline told me would happen- a natural tint to even out my lip color, soothing, moisturizing, can be worn under lip color, & provide 12 hour hydration. On the packaging itself it also claims to be “for the temporary relief of pain associated with fever blisters and cold sores.” I don’t have those issues but sometimes I get cracked lips during an allergic reaction so this appealed to me.

Left to right: Maybelline Baby Lips Dr. Rescue Medicated Balms in Berry Soft, Coral Crave, & Soothing Sorbet.

I picked up 3 out of 6 shades in this release in Berry Soft, Coral Crave, & Soothing Sorbet. I skipped out on the clear altogether because I have plenty of medicated lip balms in clear! I’ve actually heard from a few sources that the clear was their least favorite so I’m glad I passed. These are pretty sheer so the swatches have been built up quite a bit. You can see Coral Crave pretty much still looks clear.

My bare lips are pretty much light pigmentation. I’m pretty fair & have the lips to match.

Maybelline Baby Lips Dr. Rescue Medicated Balm in Berry Soft comes off a lot more pink on me. I was hoping for a deeper shade but it came off with some sheer brightness.

Maybelline Baby Lips Dr. Rescue Medicated Balm in Coral Crave is pretty much clear. By far the most disappointing because I adore corals. You can see all the freckles on my lips clearly. Seriously zero coverage here.

Maybelline Baby Lips Dr. Rescue Medicated Balm in Soothing Sorbet is the creamiest of the 3 shades & I actually quite like it. On it kind of looks like it has somewhat lilac tones to the pink. I like this shade, it is pretty.
My thoughts-
Like many have said before me, these smell just like Vicks VapoRub. That’s the menthol & eucalyptus at work! If you don’t like Vicks (which is the most common comparison I can think of) then you will not like these. They have that menthol taste as well that is a tad bitter. I personally don’t mind that. What I do mind is that these seem to wear off way too quickly- like well within an hour. I mean, what? 12 hours isn’t even close! If you love the original Baby Lips then you probably like how creamy they feel & that they actually last a bit longer than most lip balms usually. These feel more slick…even a bit greasy on the lips. They just don’t feel the same. & clearly don’t smell the same. Or last the same. Heck…the color payoff isn’t even marketed as similar. If I wasn’t a Baby Lips fan then I wouldn’t even know these were part of the family.

I don’t find these to be truly healing because they don’t even last on the lips. To be more soothing I’d have to apply a crazy amount which just wouldn’t look right & would feel greasy. Not a match for me unfortunately. I’m having a hard time admitting that because all of the other Maybelline Baby Lips have been so well-loved in my collection. These are the first I wish I had passed on if only for the texture.

You can purchase the Maybelline Dr. Rescue Medicated Baby Lips from drugstores like Walgreens along with Walmart, Drugstore.com, & even ULTA.

Have you tried any of the Maybelline Dr. Rescue Medicated Baby Lips? Interested or are you passing?
