If you love villains, you need to start stalking your Walgreens! This is the “Evil Queen” edition but I also picked up the Maleficent (my favorite!) one which I’ll be showing you later on today. There was one other book as well which was Cruella…which I passed on. I think it will be really popular because it is so neutral but I didn’t feel like it was super special. Now let’s see what is inside the Evil Queen book!
So, let’s look at the packaging! I think that is what this palette is all about right? Besides the eyeshadows of course! The front is adorable with a great picture of the Evil Queen. I also left the sticker of the inside contents on it as well. Something to note is the little bands at the opening corners. LOVE THESE. I so wish all their books had them so you could keep them closed!
Inside, you have the mirror which isn’t fabulous but I still like it for what is underneath. Below the mirror it says “Mirror, Mirror on the wall…” with some little drawings. Each book has it’s own special touches on this page which you will see in Maleficent. This one has an apple & a curly Q below the mirror. There is also a clear plastic sheet to keep the makeup from spilling everywhere.
Next to one of my original ELF Encyclopedia books for size reference. |
Inside you have 2 complete directions for looks, one for day & one for night. In the middle is a picture of the queen on a clear sheet which you can flip to see each look.
Day Evil (for a deliciously enchanting look!) is so pretty. I love that it still has a wearable quality without being all pastels. In 5 steps, you can create this look.
Night Villain (for a look that is sure to make you the fairest one of all!) is so up my alley. Love that you get to have a darker look complete with a red lip. Who doesn’t love a red lip?
So now onto the shades! Note the absolute fabulous-ness of the shade names! Evil Queen indeed!I swatched ALL of these shades over the included primer. I rarely swatch shades over primer (unless I think they desperately deserve a chance) but since these kits CAME with a primer, I used it!

DAY EVIL
One Bite- A golden-shimmering off white. LOVE THIS. If you love gold shades, this pretty much makes the palette worth it. I wish they sold this as a single!
Vanity- A matte nude that actually goes on smooth. I was shocked folks. It blends in here a bit too much (sorry!) but it really is a lovely light nude.
Narcissitstic- A light pink toned lilac. This looks brighter in the pan but swatches a bit more frosty.
Potion- A medium toned red based purple with nearly a metallic finish. This is SO pretty & unexpected.
ELF Lip & Cheek Color- A mauve toned pink.

NIGHT VILLAIN
Fairest of the Land- The perfect sheer, frosty white. This can be WAY sheered out which makes it the perfect highlight!
Majesty- A medium purple with kind of a lavender sheen. It is really lovely & cool toned.
Peddler’s Cloak- A medium brown packed with gold shimmer. SO pretty.
Poison Apple- In the pan, (after removing overspray) it looks like a satin finish black. Clearly it is an absolute dud, I mean, this is even over primer!
ELF Lip & Cheek Color- A hot red with pink tones.
These are available at Walgreens for $10 each. I think it is a bit pricey, but that’s just how it is! Some quick notes: I wish it included a gloss for day or night! I actually like glosses normally so I wish we had gotten one. Also, a full sized eye primer! I mean, they are only $1 each full sized, why the mini? Sadly, I’m not a fan of the eyeliner applicator…it just doesn’t give an even stroke. Bummer. It IS however very black & didn’t budge on me so it is worth a try with a liner brush!
I love that they included some fierce lashes though! The band is a bit thick but worth it for a dramatic look. I actually like the lip liner shades but kind of bummed they want them to double as cheek colors. I find lipstick or a stain works a lot better for this as rubbing in the harsh lines rubs away the foundation beneath.
If you are digging this palette/book, snag it while you can! It is limited edition (from what I’ve read) & they have definitely been selling out at many Walgreens stores. Are you loving it or leaving it? Stay tuned for my favorite, Maleficent! I think you’ll love it!
