Starlooks Starbox for November 2012!

December 1, 2012 By StephanieLouise 634Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F12%2Fstarlooks-starbox-for-november-2012.htmlStarlooks+Starbox+for+November+2012%212012-12-01+23%3A54%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F12%2Fstarlooks-starbox-for-november-2012.html

Photobucket

Happy Saturday everyone! Today I get to show you guys my November Starbox from Starlooks which I’m always oh so excited to receive! This month things were a bit different because they customized each box by asking us our skin tones & eye colors. Customizing boxes seems to be kind of hard becuse it seems like those survey deals we so often take before ordering get trashed. Not Starbox! They sent out 3 different options in Light, Medium, & Dark.
Look at how cute this box is! I adore this print & I’m not searching for something to store in here!

Photobucket

Here’s where a disclaimer comes into play! So Starlooks let me know that because they had sold out of their “Light” variety quite fast so reviewers would likely be getting either the Medium or Dark variety. Personally, I am thrilled with that. I 100% believe paying customers deserve priority & I’m here to mostly talk about quality & the types of products you get anyway! No qualms here!

So this box contained a quad of eyeshadows (the Dark quad), a Tender Gloss Lipstick, a 3-in-1 Mascara Guide/Applicator, & of course 2 mystic quartz crystals.

Photobucket

The quad is really pretty & contains what Starlooks describes as a highlight (top left), base shade (top right), crease shade (bottom left), & the bottom right  is supposed to be used to create “the perfect eye corner” according to my box insert.

Photobucket

Top left is in the shade is Hint of Rust, top right is in the shade Midnight in Mongolia, bottom left is the shade Coffee Bean, bottom right is in the shade Void Echo.

Photobucket
Photobucket

My favorite are the top 2 shades! I love them both & they are very nicely pigmented. Hint of Rust is a warm slightly red toned medium shimmery bronze. Midnight in Mongolia is a shimmering deep cool brown with kind of an antique shimmer. Coffee Bean is a matte shade with a bit of silver shimmer that can be buffed away & I’d describe it as a slightly red toned medium brown. Void Echo is a shimmering gray.

My Coffee Bean is really hard to swatch unfortunately & comes off kind of hard. This is the only shadow I had issues with. I thought I didn’t like Void Echo at first but now I’ve decided I do haha. It doesn’t have very good pigmentation but even kind of sheer it still retains that shimmer. This would be great for someone nervous about beginning to do a smoky eye because it is buildable. Both Midnight in Mongolia & Hint of Rust is gorgeous & look just lovely on. Great pigmentation & easy to wear.

Photobucket
Photobucket

Starlooks Tender Gloss Lipstick in Pearl
I am seriously having the hardest time explaining the coloring on this lipstick! I’ve decided to describe is as a mauve-y bronze-y silver-y with a hint of copper. That is direct right? There is so much going on that I think this shade would work for everyone. It applies sheer but really moisturizing & I’d say it leans more towards a sheer lipstick & balm. It is moisturizing even though it feels like there is nothing thick on your lips. Love this formula & I don’t think I have anything like it!

Photobucket
Photobucket

Top swatch is a few swipes while the bottom is one swipe. My lips are looking pretty sickly so they aren’t very pigmented but you can see it on there ๐Ÿ™‚

Photobucket
The bonus items this month were really cool as well! I like the quartz crystals & I’ve been slowly accumulating them to put them in some kind of clear container…maybe with something else? If you guys have ideas let me know! The 3-in-1 Mascara Guide/Applicator is really cool & I don’t have one like this! I like this idea much better than those darn lash card things which apparently I just highly dislike! Plus, you save paper this way! ๐Ÿ™‚
So there it is! If you are interested in signing up for a Starlooks Starbox, you can visit their site here. This isn’t an affiliate link but I’d appreciate it if you let them know I sent you their way! This box was provided for review, but as always my opinions are 100% my own! If you got other shades in your Starbox…I’d love to see them!

Birchbox & MyGlam Bag for November 2012

November 29, 2012 By StephanieLouise 638Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F11%2Fbirchbox-myglam-bag-for-november-2012.htmlBirchbox+%26+MyGlam+Bag+for+November+20122012-11-29+00%3A42%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F11%2Fbirchbox-myglam-bag-for-november-2012.html

Photobucket

So my Birchbox arrived awhile ago but I’ve held off reviewing. I have some personal issues with this box & I wanted to decide how I felt about it. I STILL recommend Birchbox to everyone who asks what beauty service to try fist. I just wanted to say that. But let me tell you, MyGlam has been  blowing me away. Like POW BAM. I’ve skipped reviewing the past month because I pretty much just lost everything I worked on. ANYWAY. This is a Birchbox VS MyGlam (I don’t know if I should call it Ipsy so that’s what I’m calling it) & it is just so you can see the difference.

Let’s do Birchbox first. So my issue with this box isn’t even that I didn’t feel like it fit Birchbox. So many people got some wonderful things & I felt like my box was kind of a stab in the dark. The theme was pretty gimmicky to me & the new mini magazines feel a bit like a Glossybox rip off. 3/6 (so 50%) of the items are in foil packets AND from the same brand. On top of that, the brand is Masqueology which gave me a horrible allergic reaction awhile back. So these weren’t even a great value but I can’t really use them anyway. I don’t mind throwing out or giving up something here & there but half my box? Bummer.

Photobucket

Another item is a decent size sample of a body serum (which feels like straight oil to me…) was absolutely so overflowing that they had to put it in a plastic bag. Gee…thanks? Why didn’t they just get better packaging? It is a mess…I can’t even bring myself to use it. Birchbox made a HUGE deal about a MCMC Fragrance called Phoenix so I thought; “Yay finally a fragrance sample that isn’t tiny! They wouldn’t rave about a tiny one!” Well, they did…& the scent is just kinda meh to me. Not worth the hype for me.

The last item is a Stila All Over Shimmer Liquid Luminizer in Rose Gold. I like this product, I really do. I like luminizers in general. But being that it isn’t a full size (it is a full size according to Birchbox BUT it is a full size from a set of 3 MINIS) this wasn’t exactly blowing me away. As always, I count my Birchbox points as $5 because I do shop on their store (I just bought some Zoya Exclusives) so that brings my box total down to $5. For the first time in a really long time…I don’t feel like my box was worth $5.  I usually buy Stila during ridiculous sales so $5 for one sample is kinda a whatever thing.

Now let’s do MyGlam / IPSY!

Photobucket

I am blown away by this $10 bag. No, they don’t have a loyalty program, affiliate options, or even a referral code. Want to know why I don’t care? Because this bag rocked my socks. With items from 2 new brands & 3 I buy from consistently, the value was amazing. No skincare. No hair. Just makeup + a nail polish…& I think if you read my blog you know I love a new nail polish. This month the contents were contained in a chocolate bag with a gold zipper. I think they have actually been uping their bag quality.

Photobucket

The one maybe item in this bag was the Benefit They’re Real Mascara because some people got the Chella Eyebrow Defining Gel. I would have been thrilled with either honestly. I have been using the Chella Mattifying Day Cream & I adore Benefit. I’m adding this to my mascara stash to try!

Photobucket

The full size nail polish is from a brand that is new to me called Nailtini. I got the shade Millionaire. Glitter-rific & on trend for the upcoming holiday season! I LOVED getting a polish that wasn’t from the Circus by Andrea line…those just weren’t good quality on my nails. This is a big step in the “makin me happy” direction. I’ll swatch this once I get through some of my accumulating holiday polishes.

Photobucket

TheBalm snuck a perfect little eyeshadow single from their Meet Matt(e) palette in Matt Batali. I love this shade, the mini-adorable-ness of it, & TheBalm in general. Smittened.

Photobucket

Another brand I am unfamiliar with is Starlet Cosmetics. They included a full sized Intense Eyeliner in Chocolate but unfortunately I found it a bit hard. I will try working with it a bit more before I decide but man is this packaging cute!

Photobucket

The last item is a Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss from Bare Minerals…which just makes me so happy. The shade I received is Daredevil which is a beautiful purple toned berry. Full of winning, I just love these, especially to layer. I adore purple leaning berries so this was especially nice.

They also added a bonus $20 off for JustFab. This site is similar to the site I received called Little Black Bag & I actually just ordered from them. I haven’t tried them yet but I had a hard time not overbuying like everything! I’ll be sure to haul stuff for you guys when I do get my 2 items in!

WOOSH! So much writing! Sorry guys, I know this post was long but it was also overdue! I am in love with MyGlam at the moment but I know some people got some great items as well. Pink Sith better watch herself, I want her Birchbox something fierce. Clearly my boxes are quite different this month!

What do you think? Have you tried either MyGlam or Birchbox? Canceled either of them? Have you tried anything I got?

Starlooks Starbox October 2012 (A Subscription with ALL Full Sized Products!)

November 6, 2012 By StephanieLouise 664Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F11%2Fstarlooks-starbox-october-2012.htmlStarlooks+Starbox+October+2012+%28A+Subscription+with+ALL+Full+Sized+Products%21%292012-11-06+14%3A41%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F11%2Fstarlooks-starbox-october-2012-a-subscription-with-all-full-sized-products.html

Photobucket

So the Starbox is from the makeup company Starlooks & everything inside the box is from their brand. I got my first box last month (click here to view my September Starbox) & was very impressed. For $15, you know you’ll be receiving full-sized items…no foil packets here!

Photobucket

Here are the cards that came with this Starbox, pretty right? Plus it gives you a sneak peek for December. if you have been considering signing up I think it is the perfect time!
Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket

Inside my October Starbox
Photobucket

Photobucket

Starlooks Eye Dust in Posh: This is a loose pigment that can be worn both sheer & built up to be brighter. I love purples so this shimmering shade is right up my alley! I always use a primer with loose product & this lasted all day!

Photobucket
Photobucket

Starlooks Eye Pencil in Gold Dust: This is a really blendable yellow-toned gold shade. Again, this is buildable. Use a little to have a slight golden sheen or another layer to make the gold really pop.

Photobucket

Starlooks Lipstick in Masquerade: This is a warm orange/pink toned red base packed with orange shimmers! This looks a lot more dramatic in the tube than on the lips/swatched. I love this shade! Such a pretty wearable orange shade for fall!

Photobucket

Extras: We always get the crystals in our box which I love. Plus we got a kind of eye tattoo? I’m sticking this in my costume drawer. How fun is that though? Great extra!

Photobucket
Photobucket

Swatches left to right: Eye pigment in Posh, Eyeliner in Gold Dust, & Lipstick in Masquerade.

I get so many questions asking me which beauty boxes are the best & this one is definitely making that list. Sure, it is only my 2nd box, but this  encompasses the requests I so often get. When someone asks me what kind of box they’re looking for I always ask what THEY want out of a service. Often they want all makeup, bug samples, & nothing too expensive. I think this definitely fits the bill!

What do you think of the products I got in this Starbox? Have you signed up? What services are you currently signed up for?

Beauty Box 5 for October 2012

October 30, 2012 By StephanieLouise 668Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F10%2Fbeauty-box-5-for-october-2012.htmlBeauty+Box+5+for+October+20122012-10-30+16%3A20%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F10%2Fbeauty-box-5-for-october-2012.html

Photobucket So after the brilliant box last month from Beauty Box 5, I think I had my hopes up too high. This box wasn’t bad, but it just wasn’t as fitted to me personally. I also wish they had thrown in some Halloween or Breast Cancer awareness type products (this goes for all the boxes this month!) because I feel like they missed out! Themes like this can be so fun!

PhotobucketPhotobucket

What was in my box this month:
-Margania Pure Argan Oil : I think I must have said this many many times int he video, but I seriously love this little bottle. How perfect is this for travel? This oil is alright, but at $32 per 2 fl oz I feel like it is a bit overpriced. This oil is definitely much thinner than my others & without much scent.

-City Lips Lip Plumper: This definitely plumped my lips with that burning kind of sensation which is what I expected. This is quite thick so although this sample is pretty small, I should get a few uses out of it. It has kind of a weird smell though, although I can’t quite place it somewhere between chemical & plastic. I wish this had come in Spring/Summer since dry lips should NEVER used these.

-Show Stoppers Fashion Tape: Your standard clothing tape. I’ll save this for the holiday season with those silly sweaters that won’t stay exactly where I want them.

-Goat Haus Dairy Lip Balm: I love the bath melt but didn’t fall for this balm. It smell good & tastes a bit like sugar cookies but it isn’t very strong. The balm is moisturizing but I didn’t find it long wearing. Plus, my label was all askew.

-Furlesse Elevens: I reviewed Frownies which I expect to be about the same. Eh. I didn’t feel like they went with the flow of this box.

-Lash Card Lash Cards: I just don’t get these. I would have much rather gotten something like a mini eyeshadow or similar item. If you like these, try an old gift card behind your lashes…or find a new mascara that is a bit drier!

+ the $100 discount for NuMe which has a few restrictions (you have to spend at least $100 & it is only valid on tools & hair extensions) but I think that is pretty great. I wish I was in the market for something new but I just got a bubble wand curling iron!

I’m so sorry I don’t have photos of the card! My dog dumped a whole soda on it…seriously? True story.

So all in all, this wasn’t a bad box at all it just wasn’t as up my alley. For me, I’ve already tried items similar to the Furlesse Elevens & even if I hadn’t I don’t think they work that fast so you would need to try more. I’ve tried the fashion tape & although it is handy when you need it I don’t think it is a great sample but more of a bonus. The Lash Cards just aren’t something I quite “get” apparently. I do like the lip balm even if it didn’t blow me away. Plus it is afforadable! The lip plumper also wasn’t for me.

Do you get Beauty Box 5? What did you think of this month’s box? Anything in here catch your eye?

Beauty Box 5 for September 2012 featuring a great mix of products!

October 8, 2012 By StephanieLouise 686Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F10%2Fbeauty-box-5-for-september-2012.htmlBeauty+Box+5+for+September+2012+featuring+a+great+mix+of+products%212012-10-08+18%3A10%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F10%2Fbeauty-box-5-for-september-2012-featuring-a-great-mix-of-products.html

Photobucket

So if you read my very first review of the Beauty Box 5 subscription service back in July, then you would know it wasn’t something that blew me away. It wasn’t awful, but it wasn’t amazing either you know? With all of the monthly beauty subscriptions we have access to, you have to have something really special to compete. This is my 2nd box & the September BB5 box really impressed me! With 2 full-sized products, it definitely did a much better job. Let’s see what was inside!

Photobucket

As always with these types of boxes, they come with a handy dandy card. Here is the BB5 one.

PhotobucketHere are all 5 products on top of the little bag they come stored in. You can see swatches in the video. Please remember to

Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket

H.Wood Beauty Lip Shine in Ruby
I absolutely love the packaging on this, so different while not being gawdy. The product inside is very sheer so if you are nervous about the red lips that are so in for the upcoming seasons then this is perfect. Is it something I’ll wear often? Maybe. I’ll have to see how often I reach for it!

Photobucket
Photobucket

Goat Haus Dairy Bath Melt
I love bath melts, bath bombs, & bath beads so it probably doesn’t surprise anyone that I am excited to try this! I love bath melts that contain milks because they leave your skin more moisturized, & I’m definitely beginning to feel this dry weather! I opened up a bit of the foil & it smells divine!

Photobucket

Silk Naturals Eyeshadow in Touring
This is a pretty eyeshadow & I’m glad they included an easy to wear shade. This is a light taupey brown. This is pretty packed with shimmers but I don’t mind that. When it is buffed, it makes a nice highlight, even on my light skin. You can also pack it on. I found it didn’t stay on all that well unfortunately, so it need primer.

Photobucket

Natsassja Skin Enzyme Facial Peel
Like I said in the video, I haven’t been able to use this yet ๐Ÿ™ From what I CAN tell though this has a really nice texture, pretty thick. I took a picture so you could see the thick peak of product. Smells nice too!

Photobucket

NuMe Hydro Punch Hydrating Shampoo
I’ve gotten this before I believe in MyGlam? It isn’t a bad shampoo but I didn’t find it extremely hydrating. Maybe it is because I normally get my hydration from conditioning products? Either way, I will use it up but I am not blown away.

Overall, I think this Beauty Box 5 had nice variety & had products I am interested in. You have one full size lip item, the full size bath melt, the eyeshadow, the shampoo, & one face product.I thought everything looked very nice, something that doesn’t always happen with all samples. Sometimes because they aren’t full sized labels are off & such & it bugs me! 2 Full sized products by brands that are new to me is a huge bonus. I know they can’t always guarantee there will be a full sized product but I’m glad they include them!

What do you think of this box? Do you agree it had great variety? Have you tried Beauty Box 5?

Starlooks Starbox for September 2012 (My First One!)

October 1, 2012 By StephanieLouise 693Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F10%2Fstarlooks-starbox-for-september-2012-my.htmlStarlooks+Starbox+for+September+2012+%28My+First+One%21%292012-10-01+14%3A35%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F10%2Fstarlooks-starbox-for-september-2012-my-first-one.html

Photobucket

So if you haven’t heard the buzz about the Starbox from the makeup company Starlooks, it is definitely worth learning about! This is a subscription box for $15 a month that sends out FULL-SIZE products from the Starlooks line! If you haven’t seen their products before, I urge you to check out some videos on youtube. My favorite unboxing guru is thesassiwench who also has a blog as well! For the September box, I was incredibly blown away as it contained a product similar to one I had wanted to buy at IMATS but was sold out…read on, you won’t regret it!

Photobucket
Photobucket

So I was a bit thrown off when I got my Starlooks box because although I had never HAD one physically, I had watched numerous unboxings. Their packaging is now white, which threw me for a loop in the video so I hope that explains my mumbling haha.

Photobucket
Photobucket

Here’s a closer look at what the inside of my box looked like + the beautiful crystals. I had the hardest time photographing those tiny stones but PLEASE know they are absolutely lovely! I hope you can see the opal glow a bit!

Photobucket
Photobucket

Let’s look at the eye primer first! So this comes in a pot which I love. I know some people prefer eye primers in a tube but I actually love min in jars since I apply with a clean finger 99% of the time anyway. Plus, then you can take a spatula & get out every tiny bit as opposed to performing surgery on a tube as to not waste expensive product.

Photobucket

I’ve been using it for a few days now & I am quite impressed. As I stated in the video so eloquently (HA!) it doesn’t have that weird primer smell. WIN! It is a nice light primer, I can’t feel it on my lids at all after it sets up. It works as any primer does for eyes by making shadows last longer. The packaging is a nice, heavy glass which makes it feel more luxe.

Photobucket
Photobucket

I think I made it very clear that this palette is pretty remarkable in the video. Without repeating what I said 100 times again, this is definitely one of the things I’ve been looking for SO long. I just lucked into it, who would have thought? This is very similar to the very expensive NAKEDS stack I was planning to pick up at LA IMATS. When I had finally convinced myself to bite the bullet (ok it took maybe 2 seconds of convincing) they had been sold out since the day before.

Photobucket
Photobucket

I actually prefer this in a palette I think because you really won’t need very much. I think the swatches pretty much speak for themselves. I swatched each shade over a black gel liner then on its own to the right.

Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket
This was just one quick swatch of each shade, no blending. Do pictures speak louder than words or what? These are just too beautiful. I mean seriously, I adore. In fact, I left them swatched for hours because I am that distracted by shiny, beautiful things. I hope these go up on their site for purchase because if they ever make more shades, I’d love to pick them up. They act as transformers (as explained in the video) so they are super versatile.

So all in all, I was really impressed with this box! For $15 a month, you KNOW you’re getting full sized products which is what a lot of people are asking me to find in a sample box. Although Starlooks is still a relatively new brand to me, I definitely think they’re on the right track. All of the packaging felt very sturdy & reminiscent of higher end brands. Some of the things I judge are the outside feel, if the labels seem like they will wear off, closures, & general logic of packaging.Plus, their added bonus items are lovely!

I love that they have their own store as well, but I haven’t found these 2 products on there yet. Maybe they came out in the boxes first? That’d be pretty cool. One thing to note is that until they sell out, you can purchase PAST boxes HERE. How cool is that? Because the $15 box is usually quite a bit cheaper than full-sized products. From what I’ve calculated, these boxes are a great savings. Obviously this is my first box so I’m not sure about the past boxes, but they seem to be on par with this one. However, if you buy a PAST box, it is $25 instead of the regular $15.

Who do I think will like Starbox? If you hate foil packets, want full sized products, & are looking to try ONLY cosmetics then this is what you have been waiting for! I am so glad to finally be able to show you girls an ONLY cosmetics box, whew! Been a long time coming eh? I hope you’ll check them out & feel free to post your first reactions below!

BarkBox for September 2012 featuring Cobo & Zeus Pics!

September 27, 2012 By StephanieLouise 697Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F09%2Fbarkbox-for-september-2012-featuring.htmlBarkBox+for+September+2012+featuring+Cobo+%26+Zeus+Pics%212012-09-27+20%3A48%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F09%2Fbarkbox-for-september-2012-featuring-cobo-zeus-pics.html

Photobucket

On my quest for the best subscription services, I stumbled upon BarkBox! For those that don’t know, I have 2 dogs & a cat. Cobo is a Boxer/Shar Pei & Zeus is a Poodle/ Shih Tzu. Both are rescue mixes & spoiled beyond belief. When I come back, I want to be one of my dogs. Getting to spoil THEM with a monthly subscription is pretty incredible…& they love getting mail.

Photobucket

About BarkBox:
When you sign up for BarkBox, every month you will receive a box in the mail with four or more carefully selected products and presents for your dog โ€“ anything from bones and treats to shampoos, leashes and innovative new gadgets!
If your dog is begging for more or you want to gift a favorite item to a friend, weโ€™ll give you exclusive opportunities to order more products at a great rate.
A portion of proceeds from each box will go to help doggies-in-need. To learn more about our causes, read about our giving program.
Whether youโ€™ve known your furry friend for years or have a new special canine in your life, BarkBox is the monthly necessity for keeping your pup entertained and feeling well loved.

I think you guys will get a kick out of this: it is actually more personalized than more of my beauty boxes! Seriously. You get to choose your dog’s size (in a lot of beauty boxes they don’t even pay attention to skin color!) which is super handy. I went with Cobo’s size (he’s about 100 pounds) because Zeus thinks he’s a big dog anyway. Your choices are Small & Cute (0-20lbs), Just Right (20-50lbs), & Big & Bold (50lbs+) so it is pretty simple. There wasn’t a Lazy & Clumsy selection so I went with the Big & Bold option.

For one month of BarkBox you pay $29, for 3 months you pay $22 a month, & for 6 months you pay $17.50 a month. Shipping is always free! I LOVE that you actually get a substantial percentage off (40%!) for joining for 6 months. Sometimes you only save $1-$5 a month, but 40% is a nice chunk of change. Another item to note? You can cancel anytime. Plus, 10% goes to a rescue charity which is also awesome.

Let’s look at what the boys got shall we? Also, check out photo-bombing Zeus!

Photobucket
Photobucket

So first, let’s look at their cards. I love love LOVE the little drawings (noticed the barking dog sketch on the box I put up there? HA!) & I love that these aren’t all cluttered. Like many other boxes, one side gives you a little bio about the items you’ve received. Although it doesn’t include prices, it does include websites which I like.

Everything you need to know should be in my video or in the cards above! Enjoy!

Photobucket

Here’s my box all open! & the photos of all the contents up close, in case you were curious! Note the photo of Zeus below…I didn’t get one shot of that bone without his face nuzzled in it.

So there you have it! So far, they have played with the bottle mostly by rolling it around the floor…then feeling like I cheated them bu not having free treats in it. I’m a horrible mother clearly. I think BarkBox is so majorly cool. I am hoping that I answered most of your questions, but if not, just leave them below & I’ll do my best!

Have you gotten Birchbox before?…interested in picking up a BarkBox for your pooch? What do you think of the items I received? Okay, I didn’t receive anything, let’s be honest, this one’s for the dogs! ๐Ÿ˜‰

PhotobucketI look forward to my Birchbox every month like crazy. I’ve had Birchbox for well over a year, they’ve always had standout customer service, & they continuously introduce me to new brands & products. This month I was kind of half & half: it isn’t a bad box but it also didn’t blow me away. Birchbox is $10 a month & always a great surprise…to see what I got this month keep reading!

So let me include the card that always comes with Birchbox so you can see what they have included & such. Below, I’ll review each one ๐Ÿ™‚

So now let’s look at my thoughts on the products & the box overall! This time there were 5 products & 2 bonus items. One of the bonus items (or by Birchbox Lingo “Lifestyle Extra”) is one of my favorites of the whole box! The 2nd is a  free music download for an artist that’s new to me.

Purifying Cleansing Gel from Boscia–
I normally really like Boscia products but this one didn’t blow me away.  This sample, however, was a really generous size at 1.69 fl oz so that’s nice. At least I got to try enough of it to know it didn’t make me crazy. I think I just prefer something more feminine smelling while this has very little scent at all. The gel also feels a tad sticky.
Put A Pin In It Custom Birchbox Nail Polish from Color Club-
This was definitely the color I wanted out of the 4 shades they came together to create! LOVE this shade in the bottle. I’ve swatched it on one finger over black & it wasn’t as impressive unfortunately. It looks much more silver & much less of a pink sheen. It did cover the black in one coat! I’ll be trying this out on its own & seeing if that helps! Either way, gorgeous shade.
Water Fuse Beauty Balm (BB Cream) SPF 25+ from Dr. Jart+ –
Boo on the size of this sample! I only got to use it 2-3 times. Because it is supposed to be both an SPF & a moisturizer, I naturally use more. I want to protect & hydrate my skin. From what I can tell, I quite like the texture of this although it does have a bit of that sunscreen type scent. It covers pretty decently although not as well as some.
Instant Body Soother Wipes in Natural Peppermint from LA Fresh-
I tried one of these sheets & am saving the other for a flight. They are really refreshing & actually more fabric like than I expected. For me, I think it’s the scent that bums me out. The peppermint scent actually smells quite a bit like tea tree oil to me but in a really medicinal way. I think I would have liked them more had they been something like rosemary or floral.
Birchbox Custom Lace Hair Tie from Twistband-
I love the lace detailing printed on this & I think it’s really cute. Now notice I said printed, so there’s no lace to get snagged & such.  I like this & I think it is much cuter than your standard rubber band or hair tie. I also love that it is purple!
Brush Guard Variety Pack from The Brush Guard-
This is the extra…& I’m calling it the best of the box!Freaking amazing. I don’t know why I haven’t gotten my hands on them before. Okay, they might not SEEM super exciting but after using them they’re pretty fabulous. They sent a nice trio of sizes so they fit over everything from my angled eyeliner brush to my powder brush…even my wonky (fabulous but wonky!) shaped Sonia brushes.
I wasn’t sure when I first got my box (see the video!)but now I am quite happy with my box. I am so incredibly happy with the Brush Guard sample especially that I have already purchased some from Birchbox. I’m loving the variety here though, & no perfume samples! I always recommend Birchbox first whenever someone is looking to try a subscription beauty box. It’s only $10 a month, has a sweet rewards program (I spend my money there allll the time!), & they work with fab brands.
What did you get in your box? Liking mine? Have you signed up for Birchbox?

July 2012 Glossybox USA: I HAVE THEM BOTH!

August 23, 2012 By StephanieLouise 739Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F08%2Fjuly-2012-glossybox-usa-i-have-them-both.htmlJuly+2012+Glossybox+USA%3A+I+HAVE+THEM+BOTH%212012-08-23+17%3A08%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F08%2Fjuly-2012-glossybox-usa-i-have-them-both.html

Yes. This is very VERY late. Why? Because I have 2 Glossyboxes & before I showed them to you guys, I wanted to know why? Turns out I bought one (which is the given answer since I have been for awhile) & was sent one. I didn’t know I was getting it clearly. The cool thing? I got one of EACH of the varieties instead of 2 of the same one. Full of win about that, seriously. I think this is like my 3rd month of GLOSSYBOX? Maybe? Either way I’ve been happy with it & their customer service has been fab. Shelling out $21 hasn’t been easy though, I must admit, especially when Birchbox & MyGlam have both stepped up their games. This month, both boxes were pretty great though, read on to find out why!

Here is the front card which is the same for each box, only the contents were different:

GLOSSYBOX #1 THOUGHTS:

The Sebastian Color Ignite Multi Tone shampoo & conditioner are both packaged really nicely, perfect for travel. They both also smell great, that clean scent some hair products have. Haven’t tried them yet! The Alessandro International Pedix Heel Rescue Balm is a freaking delight. I seriously love it. SO minty & energizing smelling & works great on my constantly-sandaled feet.

The Figs & Rouge Lip, Face, & Body Balm has a sweet geranium scent that doesn’t seem strong but honestly lasted hours. I haven’t used it on my lips, but works great on my cuticles/elbows/hands. I haven’t opened the Blushed fragrance towelette from Ruddy Water yet because honestly, you guys have me scared too. I really haven’t heard many good things about it & my office is an enclosed space so…

The Senna Cosemtics Mineral Eyes Shadow (yes read the card, its written like that) Trio I got is in Satin Doll. Unfortunately, these are just not my colors but I saw some that others got that would have interested me. These are all mauve/raisin toned. Meh. They feel nice though, not chalky but almost too soft.

GLOSSYBOX #2 THOUGHTS:

PhotobucketPhotobucket

I’m not going to repeat my opinions so let’s look at the 3 products I got in this box & not in the Glossybox #1. The Caswell-Massy Hans & Body Emulsion in Almond & Aloe is amazing, I really love it. These two packets were extras but I’m totally hoping they have deluxe samples from them in the future. I’m kind of an almond lover though, so perhaps I’m a bit bias. The OFRA Eyebrow Pencil in Universal is a nice pencil. I actually like the waxy base but if my brows were darker, I worry it wouldn’t be so universal on me. This is a tad dark so I use a light hand then brush it through well. The Senna Cosmetics Double Dose Lip Lacquer in Dreamglow isn’t something I would have ever picked out for myself, but its nice. The mauvey side is packed with silvery shimmers. The very golden pink side almost looks coral on because of those two shades. Both are pretty sheer & not long lasting. I prefer a more opaque gloss or a more sheer gloss whereas this hits somewhere in-between. Its noted to be moisturizing & conditioning but I don’t feel it doing anything special.

Overall, I would have been happy with either box. I haven’t tried the shampoo/conditioner yet but the packaging is nice. I’ve had a few people tell me the textures are weird but I say bring it on. I’ve tried some wacky hair products in the past that have done freaking wonders so I’m up for it. The Senna products were both pretty, but maybe the colors just weren’t for me. I see them as being wearable across the board though! Everything else I like so far, especially the cuticle balm. Oh, its a lip, face, & body balm? Right, well now its a cuticle balm. You’re not the boss of me.

The UK boxes this month had products from all over the world, kind of like the press box I received in the beginning so I’m really hoping our next GLOSSYBOX is fabulous. I also have a $10 off coupon on the lower right of my blog if you’re interested in signing up! Its pricey but if you like what you see, totally worth it!

Photobucket

So, sidenote…I love the Glossyboxes themselves. In fact, I’ve been saving them all because I just know I will use them for something wonderful. They are sturdy, classy looking, & nice quality. What would YOU use them for?

July 2012: My First Beauty Box 5 Review

August 10, 2012 By StephanieLouise 749Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F08%2Fjuly-2012-my-first-beauty-box-5-review.htmlJuly+2012%3A+My+First+Beauty+Box+5+Review2012-08-10+16%3A01%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F08%2Fjuly-2012-my-first-beauty-box-5-review.html

When Beauty Box 5 contacted me about reviewing their July box, I said sure. I am kind of a junkie. Its kind of addicting these boxes…what’s one more right? Well, here’s what I got & my opinions! Get ready for another sample subscription review….

What is Beauty Box 5:
-This is a sample service that charges different amounts allowing you to test it out for $12 a month, pay $30 quarterly (saving $6), or $100 yearly (saving a whopping $44) which I really like. Even monthly it isn’t too unreasonable. Its only $2 more than Birchbox or MyGlam which is do-able in my book.

– Samples come in a blue/green colored cardboard box with a drawstring baggie of samples + an info card.

– You receive 4-5 samples a month.

Okay, first off, I think its strange they call it BB5 when the samples are stored in a little drawstring bag with only 4 products this time. Kind of defeats the name no? Maybe that’s just me splitting hairs but…I guess I’m spoiled with some other boxes out there lately.

What I got:

-Blinc Mascara
I’ve gotten this before… think twice? It just isn’t for me. Its supposed to be water-resistant, no smudge, flake-free, & is a tubing mascara. It just didn’t give me the length, volume, or lasting power. I know some people LOVE it though so this isn’t a bad sample.

Full size: $26.00 for 0.21 oz   Sample: 0.02 oz which is $2.48

-Curls Gel-les’s
This is an organic curl styler that promises shine, banishment of frizz, & to hold curls in place. I have naturally wavy hair…unfortunately this did absolutely nothing for frizz & my hair isn’t even considered frizzy. Bummer.

Full size: $25.00 for 8 oz  Sample: 2 oz which is worth $6.25

-Spongeables Pedi-Scrub Foot Buffer
This is an “at home spa experience” with a soft side to cleanse & moisrturize. Flip it over & its a buffer side to exfoliate. I love this. It smells very soapy & clean. Works great. My only request is that it lasts a big longer but for only $2.99 I better just deal.

Full size: $2.99 (one)   Sample: Full sized so it is worth $2.99

-Bodyography Makeup Primer
This is a really decent sized sample but unfortunately…it just wasn’t for me. It made me break out which is actually pretty rare with primers. When I did use it, I didn’t notice anything mind-blowing or even all that helpful.
Full size: 1 oz for $30.00  Sample: 0.53oz for $15.90

Box Total: $26.62

So the box total is decent for $12. However, considering I didn’t like the makeup primer (reaction or not) it wasn’t. That was the bulk of the box cost. Now don’t think I’m being too harsh! This month just wasn’t for me. I think if I had a few more boxes to try it out, I’d be able to make a more well-rounded decision. Last month, the box looked fabulous & I would have been VERY happy with it. This month just wasn’t for me!
What do YOU think of Beauty Box 5? Have you tried it? Interested in trying it?
