Holiday 2012: Anastasia of Beverly Hills Want You to Want Me Kit Review + Swatches

September 17, 2012 By StephanieLouise 714Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F09%2Fholiday-2012-anastasia-of-beverly-hills.htmlHoliday+2012%3A+Anastasia+of+Beverly+Hills+Want+You+to+Want+Me+Kit+Review+%2B+Swatches2012-09-17+17%3A35%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F09%2Fholiday-2012-anastasia-of-beverly-hills-want-you-to-want-me-kit-review-swatches.html

I make no secret: I have been awaiting the Anastasia of Beverly Hills Holiday sets like a crazy person. I missed out last year & knew I wanted to score some this year! I also have another set, a must have really! I’ll be reviewing that here soon! It’s all lippies & they have one of my absolute favorite formulas! That is called Kisses on My List & you can see my preview of it with some information!

From the Anastasia of Beverly Hills site:

A kit within a clutch. A nod to the glam and decadence of the 1970’s.
Kit styled like a clutch and features a removable eye shadow palette for a takeaway touch-up wherever your night takes you. Nine long-wearing eye shadows create a range of looks from neutral to dramatic to smokey.

FEATURES & BENEFITS
– Velvety smooth matte and hydrating Illumin8 shimmer shades keep eyes looking glam and crease-free.
– High-pigment shadows can be worn dry for a sheer wash of color. Wear wet to transform shadow into liner or for a bold metallic finish.
– Dual-sided eye shadow brush included.
– Jet black liquid eye liner creates the perfect thin line for a dramatic eye.
– Mini Clear Brow Gel sets brows in place all day and night.

KEY INGREDIENTS

The Want You to Want Me kit is gorgeous, from the shades to the packaging. I think they designed this just for me! Hello, neutrals + purples! So up my alley! I can’t wait to show you guys how I’ve been wearing these shades, my blue eyes love them!

Photobucket

Packaging: This comes with a sleeve over top (the first photo!) with info on it then after it is removed you have the soft packaging. I love this type of packaging in theory, but (like the NARS packaging) this picks up lint. It’s a black velvety texture so it feels very holiday-esque. The inside stores the double-ended brush, liquid liner, clear brow gel, & the palette of eyeshadows. Like the outside of the clutch, the eyeshadow palette has the same packaging. I love the golden/copper Anastasia of Beverly Hills stamped metal although my camera hated it!

Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket

PhotobucketThe coppery/gold printed metallic chain goes around to the back as well on both the kit & the eyeshadow palette. I love the simplicity. You can see the names of the shades beneath the palette. The interior is a brown with a slight shimmer that was only visible after trying to photograph it. I had to mess with it a bit because the names are metallic so they were somewhat reflective. Love the giant mirror in the kit & in the palette. The double-ended brush is also a nice edition, I actually use these!

Photobucket

The brow gel & black liquid liner: This was my first time trying either product & I am quite happy with both. The clear mini-brow gel is handy since I love clear gel. I actually use it daily. This has good hold without being sticky or too stiff plus dries pretty matte. The black liquid liner is super black & fabulous. It applies really easily & although I didn’t swatch it here, you’ll see it in upcoming looks! I’m not loving the applicator but I’ll have to work around it a bit.

Photobucket

Let’s dive into the palette. We have nine shades here, all varying finishes.

PhotobucketPhotobucket

I swatched all 9 of these dry & they are beautiful. I didn’t swatch them wet this time (oops!) but I’ll be doing looks with them  wet so you can see how crazy beautiful they are. I personally love that this palette isn’t red, green, & white like so many holiday palettes are because I can wear it year round. The 70s names are so freaking cute, love the whole idea. Again, something to enjoy even after the holidays are over.

The shadows themselves are incredibly smooth, long wearing, & just wonderfully butter. These have a bit of fallout here & there so tap your brush before application & for a stronger shades use it wet. These are made to look phenomenal on skin of all ages & these shimmers are to be forgiving on wrinkled lids as well.

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Top row left to right: Platform Wedge, Front Row Center, Ziggy, Members Only.
Bottom row left to right: Power Ballad, Jellies, Graphics Ts, Brass in Pocket, Iron On.

Platform Wedge: A soft matte nude.
Front Row Center: A shimmering fair nude/champagne.
Ziggy: A light to medium lavander with a frosty/metallic finish.
Members Only: A light, soft matte brown.
Power Ballad: A shimmering taupe.
Jellies: A light shimmering pink.
Graphic Ts: A cool toned brown with purple, gold, & bronze shimmers.
Brass in Pocket: A slightly warm toned nude bordering on metallic.
Iron On: A super deep plumy packed with light purple & medium purple shimmers. This might even have a bit of brown in the plum base.

You can pick up this set for only $34 (a $90 value!) at Sephora & Anastasia of Beverly Hills. These sets are VERY limited edition & completely sold out last year.( The She Wears It Well Palette I reviewed has also sold out!) If you want one, grab it ASAP!

What do you think? Loving the shades & wearability or are you looking for something more holiday-toned?

Face: Willa Naturals Face of the Day Tinted SPF 30 Swatches & Review

About Willa:
For the past 3 ½ years we have been developing a skincare line for girls called willa™ . It all started when my mom and I looked for skincare products for me and we couldn’t find them – at least not natural products.
My mom always nagged me to wear sunblock, wash my face, moisturize – you know the drill. But even though I knew it was important to take care of my skin, I never enjoyed doing it…the products available just didn’t feel good–and believe me I tried everything.
willa consists of 17 products; each is special and different from other brands because they were developed by girls, for girls. My friends in NYC have been helping me test and tweak products and we made sure they look cool too.

Willa Products are:

Paraben free
Proplyene glycol free
Sulfate free
DEA free and phthalate free
Not tested on animals
Made lovingly in the USA

About Will Naturals Face of the Day SPF 30 Tinted Face protection:
Face the Day is genius. It’s for all skin types. A lightweight, oil-free natural SPF 30 formulated with just enough tint to camouflage super white Zinc – nature’s most powerful defender against the sun’s damaging UVA/UVB rays. Anti-oxidant green tea fights free radicals as natural moisturizers keep skin feeling soft and healthy. With such silky-smooth and flawless absorption, you’ll reach for this SPF 30 every day, rain or shine.

Photobucket
Top left is fresh out of the pump, top right is a very small amount lightly smoothed out. You can see its like a souffle. The bottom stripe is a tiny amount smoothed out. Check out how whipped it looks!

Overall:
I was excited about this foundation. The texture is pretty incredible. When I was a teenager with dry skin, there wasn’t really anyone catering to me. Dry skin products weren’t advertised to me & if they were, they were usually pretty heavy coverage. I so wish there had been something like this back in the day, especially available at my local Target. Now that my skin is so combo (& currently oily!) it wouldn’t work for everyday. This winter though, Willa Naturals will be my buddy. I’m always dry in the winter & foundation is SO not kind about it. I think this will make a great base. Although it is oil free, my currently oily skin broke it down while my joy areas looked great.

Some things to note, especially for teens,  is the SPF. I’m BIG on SPF & 30 is a great amount for a foundation, especially if it is all you’re slapping on. Teens often don’t need much more. Personally, this is on the sheer side but that’s absolutely what a teen needs. Many teens try to wear way too much foundation thinking that it will perfect their skin when in fact it can make it worse or look cakey. If I had a daughter, this is exactly what I would be looking for. Also not the pump which helps to keep the product sanitary & provides some sort of control over how much you use. Woo!

You can pick this up in select Targets & also on the Willa website for $14.50.

Product provided for review. These are always my honest opinions. If you have any questions, please view my Disclosure Policy.

Birchbox for August 2012 featuring Juicy Couture, Sumita, & More!

August 28, 2012 By StephanieLouise 733Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F08%2Fbirchbox-for-august-2012-featuring.htmlBirchbox+for+August+2012+featuring+Juicy+Couture%2C+Sumita%2C+%26+More%212012-08-28+20%3A40%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F08%2Fbirchbox-for-august-2012-featuring-juicy-couture-sumita-more.html

So this Birchbox had lots of paperwork attached! Also…it was longer, as proven on the video. Not crazy, it’s true. I liked the papers & presentation. I also love the cause, Pencils of Promise does some amazing things! Although I really love these addictions, I try to judge these boxes pureply on the products they contain & IF I can reuse boxes/bags & such.

Photobucket

Photobucket
Photobucket
What I got & first impressions:

– Lipstick Touch-up swabs from Beauty Fixation: LOVE these! I used them with a red lip I totally botched haha. Again, heard some complaints about these. Okay, so they aren’t super exciting or expensive, but I WILL use them & I can definitely afford them. The key to using these on the go is to put both a swab & a regular q-tip in your purse. Use the swab then follow it with the q-tip to remove the excess.

– High-Gloss Masque from GLOSS Moderne: I did actually use this! It made my hair shiny & clean feeling but its quite pricey!

– Viva la Juicy La Fleur from Juicy Couture: This I kind of count as an extra. I hear complaints about these ALL the time. While I DON’T agree they are a deluxe sample, they are a nice bonus extra. I love this scent, a really nice fruity blend.

– Sumita Brow Base Pencil: This is so creamy! A really fab texture! I’m still deciding how to use it though.

– Although the Schick Hydro Silk Razor is technically an extra, I’m totally counting it. These aren’t cheap & I already have one I love! I will pretty much never complain about a free razor haha. Plus, this came with a $4 off coupon for next time, woo!

What did YOU get in your Birchbox this month? If you haven’t signed up yet, its only $10 a month for a box of sample sized items (sometimes full-sized as proof above!) & its a fun way to surprise yourself every month. Here is my referral link for Birchbox: Birchbox Referral. If you use it, points go towards buying more products to feature here on the blog! I buy these boxes with my own money.

As always, feel free to link your Birchbox posts using the Comment Luv option on my commenting system! Don’t have a blog? I’d still love to know what you got!

Eyes: My SUPER Long-Wearing Bronze & Blue Eye Look

August 24, 2012 By StephanieLouise 738Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F08%2Feyes-my-super-long-wearing-bronze-blue.htmlEyes%3A+My+SUPER+Long-Wearing+Bronze+%26+Blue+Eye+Look2012-08-24+13%3A00%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F08%2Feyes-my-super-long-wearing-bronze-blue-eye-look.html

PhotobucketSo, summer brought about many things: our first summer in Nebraska, my first summer not visiting home, & the horrible humidity. What does this mean to you? I’ve searched far & wide for the best of the best long-wearing eye products. Here is my current favorite duo: Milani Shadow Eyez 12 Hour Wear Eyeshadow Pencils & Maybelline 24 Hour Color Tattoos. I love all of the shades in both ranges, but blue & bronze are just so fun.

Photobucket
Photobucket

I wore this look out 3 times so far to active events! Bowling, intensely competitive laser tag, mini golf, & just general living in humidity proved it to be a winner. I mean it, I put it through the ringer. I was nice kind & I am overly judgmental. I am so impressed. I didn’t use eye primer at all & did use Revlon Colorstay Whipped Creme Makeup which I’m reviewing soon. Milani Eyez will be reviewed sometime next week! The Anastasia of Beverly Hills Lash Genius is another miracle product, it makes ANY mascara waterproof! Hello holy grail item!

Photobucket
No liner or mascara.
Photobucket
Liner added to inner rims & done very close to the lashes in a thin line.

Photobucket
See how close it is? I only apply it this one so it will last much longer. Note I also don’t always go to the inner corners.
Photobucket
With mascara. The finished look.

On the eyes: Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 Hour Eyeshadow in Bad to the Bronze, Milani Shadow Eyez 12 Hour Wear Eyeshadow in Aquatic Style, L’Oreal HIP Cream Eyeliner in 905 Black, L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black Mascara, & Anastasia of Beverly Hills Lash Genius.

5 products total, not bad! What do you think? Do you dig the blue & bronze? Have you tried any of the Milani Shadow Eyez Pencils out?

She Wears It Well Palette from Anastasia of Beverly Hills Swatches & Review

August 21, 2012 By StephanieLouise 743Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F08%2Fshe-wears-it-well-eyeshadow-kit-from.htmlShe+Wears+It+Well+Palette+from+Anastasia+of+Beverly+Hills+Swatches+%26+Review2012-08-21+15%3A04%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F08%2Fshe-wears-it-well-palette-from-anastasia-of-beverly-hills-swatches-review.html

This nude eyeshadow trend is taking over & I’m bathing in it. Seriously. Shimmery, matte, metallic…I’ll take em. Nudes are just so timeless, I urge you to find a more classic look with eyeshadows that can be worn day & night, work & play, & everywhere in between. Go nude or go home.

Photobucket

The She Wears it Well kit from Anastasia of Beverly Hills is no exception to the obsession & has some unique additions as well. First, these shades can be worn dry OR wet giving you 18 shades instead of 9. Woohoo! Double your money & color selection. Another note is the brush which is what I’ll be using to create my eye look from this palette this week/ I honestly love it. Its small, precisely what a palette needs, & is anything but a throwaway.

Photobucket
Photobucket

From the Anastasia of Beverly Hills site:
Classic Hollywood glamour with modern moxie. Nude meets knockout with these nine pigment-rich, matte and shimmer shadows that give your eyes enough sophisticated smolder to woo them, every time.
No matter how you wear them, you’re sure to wear them well.

Photobucket
Trophy- a shimmering light taupe

Glow- shimmering (almost metallic even dry) golden bronze
Latte- shimmery peachy nude
Foxy- shimmering (again almost metallic even dry) coppery brown

Sunset- a shimmering gold with bronzey hues

Photobucket

Frosting- shimmery pink
Almond- a very light nude…its more pigmented but honestly blends into my skin
Onyx- a matte black (any shimmer you see is overspray from other shades)
Toffee- a rich medium brown

PhotobucketPhotobucketPlease keep in mind all swatches are on BARE skin, NO primer. Each applied like butter. Almond was a bit less buttery but still easy to apply & blend. Great base shade for my coloring. The shadows make my blue eyes pop like crazy! First photo is dry swatches & second is wet ones after they’ve dried. I swatched them as they appear in the palette.

At $34 the She Wears It Well palette is more reasonable than many others out there currently. The shades are versatile & I love that they can all be worn wet or dry. I especially love using wet shadows as a liner, pigment galore.I think they really listened to what feedback was given for other palettes because 1/3 of the shades are matte including a black. This was a common complaint. Also, I love that Sunset is large since I always fear “running out of that main shade” & then the palette becomes less inviting to use. The huge mirror, pigmentation of shades is superb, & the packaging is sturdy while still being different from everything else I own. If you love nudes as much as I do or if you’ve been looking for a palette that makes getting ready effortless, I urge you to check this out.

The She Wears it Well Palette from Anastasia of Beverly Hills is available from their website & Sephora.

Nails: Thinking of Blue from Sally Hansen CSM Swatches & Review

August 13, 2012 By StephanieLouise 748Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F08%2Fnails-thinking-of-blue-from-sally.htmlNails%3A+Thinking+of+Blue+from+Sally+Hansen+CSM+Swatches+%26+Review2012-08-13+16%3A19%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F08%2Fnails-thinking-of-blue-from-sally-hansen-csm-swatches-review.html

Photobucket

So after I swatched the lovely & oh-so limited edition Dani-Mite from Nails by Laura over Thinking of Blue, I got some requests to swatch it on its own. I checked back & saw I hadn’t…how strange! This is definitely my most-used navy & I love it. Really. I’m a fan of the Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure line altogether really, although I think they are quite pricey & there have been 1 or 2 “ehs” in the bunch. Overall though, a very nice line. Some people dislike the brushes but I can deal, they tend to be wide but not as wide as Spoiled. They are also rounded which I actually like.

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Thinking of Blue by Sally Hansen- A medium navy blue. Opaque in 1-2 coats.

There’s not much I can say about this polish other than from all the blue I’ve aquired this is the navy I reach for. I love it. If I’m careful, its a one coater with a somewhat medium hand. I love the color, it has shine on its own if you don’t use a top coat, & it wears really well on me. A winner, truly. It took me a long time to find a navy I loved & this one even doubles as a stamper polish for me. WIN. I love using this over white with my anchor design. So summery!

What’s your favorite navy? Any thoughts on the Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Line? Favorites or any that I should check out?

July 2012: My First Beauty Box 5 Review

August 10, 2012 By StephanieLouise 749Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F08%2Fjuly-2012-my-first-beauty-box-5-review.htmlJuly+2012%3A+My+First+Beauty+Box+5+Review2012-08-10+16%3A01%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F08%2Fjuly-2012-my-first-beauty-box-5-review.html

When Beauty Box 5 contacted me about reviewing their July box, I said sure. I am kind of a junkie. Its kind of addicting these boxes…what’s one more right? Well, here’s what I got & my opinions! Get ready for another sample subscription review….

What is Beauty Box 5:
-This is a sample service that charges different amounts allowing you to test it out for $12 a month, pay $30 quarterly (saving $6), or $100 yearly (saving a whopping $44) which I really like. Even monthly it isn’t too unreasonable. Its only $2 more than Birchbox or MyGlam which is do-able in my book.

– Samples come in a blue/green colored cardboard box with a drawstring baggie of samples + an info card.

– You receive 4-5 samples a month.

Okay, first off, I think its strange they call it BB5 when the samples are stored in a little drawstring bag with only 4 products this time. Kind of defeats the name no? Maybe that’s just me splitting hairs but…I guess I’m spoiled with some other boxes out there lately.

What I got:

-Blinc Mascara
I’ve gotten this before… think twice? It just isn’t for me. Its supposed to be water-resistant, no smudge, flake-free, & is a tubing mascara. It just didn’t give me the length, volume, or lasting power. I know some people LOVE it though so this isn’t a bad sample.

Full size: $26.00 for 0.21 oz   Sample: 0.02 oz which is $2.48

-Curls Gel-les’s
This is an organic curl styler that promises shine, banishment of frizz, & to hold curls in place. I have naturally wavy hair…unfortunately this did absolutely nothing for frizz & my hair isn’t even considered frizzy. Bummer.

Full size: $25.00 for 8 oz  Sample: 2 oz which is worth $6.25

-Spongeables Pedi-Scrub Foot Buffer
This is an “at home spa experience” with a soft side to cleanse & moisrturize. Flip it over & its a buffer side to exfoliate. I love this. It smells very soapy & clean. Works great. My only request is that it lasts a big longer but for only $2.99 I better just deal.

Full size: $2.99 (one)   Sample: Full sized so it is worth $2.99

-Bodyography Makeup Primer
This is a really decent sized sample but unfortunately…it just wasn’t for me. It made me break out which is actually pretty rare with primers. When I did use it, I didn’t notice anything mind-blowing or even all that helpful.
Full size: 1 oz for $30.00  Sample: 0.53oz for $15.90

Box Total: $26.62

So the box total is decent for $12. However, considering I didn’t like the makeup primer (reaction or not) it wasn’t. That was the bulk of the box cost. Now don’t think I’m being too harsh! This month just wasn’t for me. I think if I had a few more boxes to try it out, I’d be able to make a more well-rounded decision. Last month, the box looked fabulous & I would have been VERY happy with it. This month just wasn’t for me!
What do YOU think of Beauty Box 5? Have you tried it? Interested in trying it?
