5 Days of OCC Lip Tars: Stalker Swatches & Review

December 24, 2012 By StephanieLouise 599Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F12%2F5-days-of-occ-lip-tars-stalker-swatches.html5+Days+of+OCC+Lip+Tars%3A+Stalker+Swatches+%26+Review2012-12-24+17%3A49%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F12%2F5-days-of-occ-lip-tars-stalker-swatches-review.html

The last of my OCC Lip Tar swatches & I thought I’d go out with a festive red! Stalker is a true red & I’m totally loving it to pieces.

Photobucket
How to Apply: I can’t imagine using anything other than a lip brush. Because you only need a pintpoint amount, you need something with lots of control. Even for the lip stain type look I recommend a brush for even distribution. This is one of the few lip colors I trust to apply in the corners without a lipliner because it doesn’t smudge around or travel. I first line my lip with the color then pull it to the center. The opposite works just as well .

Photobucket

Top is the small dot needed to swatch. Bottom is the swatch. Color was then applied to lips.

Photobucket
Photobucket
After 1-2 thin layers it is easily opaque.
Color & Wear:  OCC describes Stalker as a “”true blue based red” & that it is. I saved this for last because I just adore it so much this time of year, look at that pigmentation! It is your classic go-to red shade. It isn’t too bright because of it has that cool base which makes it super flattering & a year round love. If you want a long wearing red without that dry or sticky feeling, I highly recommend OCC Lip Tar in Stalker!

If your lips are dry, I recommend exfoliating then applying a balm. Let that sink into your lips & then blot it off. Apply your OCC Lip Tar a tiny bit at a time. Less is more & it is ultra-buildable. I love the idea of this shade because it isn’t as neon as some of the other pinks. I now need a neon pink now though…successful product OCC.

Photobucket

Purchase: I bought mine from Sephora in a set but this shade is available on its own. OCC Lip Tars retail for $16.00 each. You can also purchase them from the Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics website directly.

5 Days of OCC Lip Tars: Melange Swatches & Review

December 22, 2012 By StephanieLouise 600Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F12%2F5-days-of-occ-lip-tars-melange-swatches.html5+Days+of+OCC+Lip+Tars%3A+Melange+Swatches+%26+Review2012-12-22+16%3A08%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F12%2F5-days-of-occ-lip-tars-melange-swatches-review.html

I’m ridiculously irritated with the internet lately & since I haven’t posted in 2 days…you may have noted that. Oh snow. Luckily we still had power (not everyone here did!) but now that everything is up & running I have lots of catching up to do! Here’s the 2nd to last of my 5 Days of OCC Lip Tars post & the last one will be later on today! I’m excited to be back in working order!

Color & Wear:  OCC describes Melange as a “Terracotta Neutral” & although I wouldn’t have come up with that on my own, that isn’t a bad description I probably would call it a peachy brown. This isn’t the easiest shade for me to wear because I think it brings out the pink tones in my skin. I’ll have to work with this a bit more to get it to work with me. I’m thinking if I lightened it up a bit with a white base it would be more wearable? What do you guys think?

If your lips are dry, I recommend exfoliating then applying a balm. Let that sink into your lips & then blot it off. Apply your OCC Lip Tar a tiny bit at a time. Less is more & it is ultra-buildable. I love the idea of this shade because it isn’t as neon as some of the other pinks. I now need a neon pink now though…successful product OCC.

Purchase: I bought mine from Sephora in a set but this shade is available on its own. OCC Lip Tars retail for $16.00 each. You can also purchase them from the Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics website directly.

PhotobucketI’m super excited about this week for 5 Days of! I currently own 5 Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics (OCC) Lip Tars so they fit in perfectly! Today I’m showing you Pretty Boy, a freakin fantastic fuchsia. Keep reading to see swatches, on my lips, & my thoughts!

After 1-2 thin layers it is easily opaque. I didn’t do a “stain” photo today because this shade is honestly so pigmented I couldn’t get a stain to NOT look opaque!

Color & Wear: I love this shade so very much. I can totally see myself rocking this all spring & summer which is when I usually wear bold pink lips.  OCC describes Pretty Boy as a “Super-rich Fuchsia” & that is definitely a good description. This blue toned fuchsia is simply full of win.

If your lips are dry, I recommend exfoliating then applying a balm. Let that sink into your lips & then blot it off. Apply your OCC Lip Tar a tiny bit at a time. Less is more & it is ultra-buildable. 5 Days of OCC Lip Tars: Grandma Review & Swatches

I’m super excited about this week for 5 Days of! I currently own 5 Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics (OCC) Lip Tars so they fit in perfectly! Today I’m showing you Grandma, a creamy coral. Keep reading to see swatches, on my lips, & my thoughts!

The opposite works just as well.

I seriously have to apologize for my swatches, I could NOT get my camera to cooperate. This is coming off more orange than it actually is & it has quite a bit more pink to it. I just tried & tried & couldn’t make this work. I tried color correcting them but imagine them a bit more pink pretty please?

 Photobucket
Photobucket

Top is the small dot needed to swatch. Bottom is the swatch. Color was then applied to lips.

Photobucket
Photobucket

After 1-2 thin layers it is easily opaque.

Color & Wear: This is definitely a fun color but not something I’d wear everyday. I think this would be a great mixer to spring/summer up a lip color! OCC describes Grandma as a “clean, classic coral” & I think that is spot on!

If your lips are dry, I recommend exfoliating then applying a balm. Let that sink into your lips & then blot it off. Apply your OCC Lip Tar a tiny bit at a time. Less is more & it is ultra-buildable. I love the idea of this shade with heavy mascara & liner this spring for a retro feel. I feel like this is a tangerine based coral.

Purchase: I bought mine from Sephora in a set but this shade is available on its own. OCC Lip Tars retail for $16.00 each. You can also purchase them from the Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics website directly.

Nails By Laura (Joyful Noise) Winter Nail Polish Swatches& Review Part #1

December 18, 2012 By StephanieLouise 605Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F12%2Fnails-by-laura-joyful-noise-winter-nail.htmlNails+By+Laura+%28Joyful+Noise%29+Winter+Nail+Polish+Swatches%26+Review+Part+%2312012-12-18+14%3A37%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F12%2Fnails-by-laura-joyful-noise-winter-nail-polish-swatches-review-part-1.html

PhotobucketI’m SO excited to be bringing you this post today! Yes, these polishes are glorious. But another reason is the technical difficulties I’ve been experiencing lately have been ridiculous. One thing after another. I’m hoping everything is back in good working order! Now…let’s see these swatches! They’re bound to put you in the holiday spirit! Laura just makes the most gorgeous combos!

Let’s address the name change first shall we? Indeed! Nails by Laura will now be known as Joyful Noise Cosmetics! From now on, I’ll be reviewing & referring to items by this new name but I wanted to explain a bit before anyone got confused! If you haven’t seen my swatches from Laura of Joyful Noise just type “Nails by Laura” into the search bar at the top left of my blog! I’ll be tagging them as Joyful Noise later on so you will be able to search that way in the future.

What Laura said about her exciting name change:
What does this mean for you? Absolutely nothing! It’s no secret that I’ve felt limited by the name I chose when I first started almost 2 years ago, and feared I had established myself too well with that name to change it.

Then I realized… How can I be TOO established? You guys have been AWESOME, and I know you’ll stick with me through this transition! Only good things are to come!

I’m super excited! I know lots of bloggers who chose names specific to a topic then felt limited to expand later. I say go for it, more is better! Today I’m going to be showing you the first 3 polishes of her winter/holiday collection…& they’re pretty spectacular! I did use top coat below but that is a personal preference!

Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket

Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel: A very light baby blue base with a super fine blue shimmer packed with glitter. Glitter hex shades are medium sized vibrant blue, light purple, blurple, less frequent green, small holo & silver hexes. Seen here is 2 thin coats over white.
I really like this shade, totally different from anything else I have & it feels nice & wintery. If you don’t mind a little bit of a VNL you could definitely wear this on its own but I wanted to pop it against white.
Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket

Snow Bulb Fight: A milky white base packed with a hidden red/orange microshimmer. The glitters in this include extra large red hexes, medium green, yellow, lavender, blue, & super light green hexes. The most abundant glitters are small hex glitters in the shades orange & purple. 2 coats over a white base.

If you love shades like China Glaze It’s A Trap-Eze! you’ll definitely adore this! The name definitely describes the glitters which is impossibly cute. I love the edition of yellow glitter (which I’m not usually a big fan of), lavender, & that super faint green. Definitly super original & looks gret. This is 2 thin coats just to show the milky base. You could also wear this on its own or only in one coat over white. I love the large red hexes as well, they really draw the eye.
Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket

Nargles in the Mistletoe: A clear/light green base jam packed with glitter. Medium red & green hex & square glitter with very small light blue, red, green, & silver hexes. Seen here over ButterLONDON Pillar Box Red.

For those of you not geek-tastic like myself, this is an awesome Harry Potter reference! Although this is tons of glitter, this applied wonderfully smooth. I didn’t want to take this off. Not one bit. In fact, after this mani comes off…I’m rocking this combo again. You guys are lucky you got anymore swatches out of me after this. This was GLORIOUS. I’ve never had a combo of red/green that contained a super light blue. That addition is brilliant & causes this glitter to move to the top of my must-have list. It positively glows with holiday cheer. This is one medium coat. Love. Seriously.
Photobucket

There you have it, part one! Next you will see an awesome warm glitter, golden stars, & the polish I refused to take off that will bling in the new year! I think you’ll be impressed.

To purchase these polishes, head over to Joyful Noise Cosmetics on Etsy & remember to LIKE it on facebook to stay up to date on awesome deals, steals, & giveaways! I hope this has brought a bit of holiday cheer to your day!

5 Days of OCC Lip Tars: Vintage Review + Swatches

December 17, 2012 By StephanieLouise 606Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F12%2F5-days-of-occ-lip-tars-vintage-review.html5+Days+of+OCC+Lip+Tars%3A+Vintage+Review+%2B+Swatches2012-12-17+21%3A52%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F12%2F5-days-of-occ-lip-tars-vintage-review-swatches.html

I’m super excited about this week for 5 Days of! I currently own 5 Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics (OCC) Lip Tars so they fit in perfectly! Today I’m showing you Vintage, a sexpot red. Keep reading to see swatches, on my lips, & my thoughts!

The opposite works just as well.

Photobucket

Top is the small dot needed to swatch. Bottom is the swatch. Color was then applied to lips.
Photobucket

After pressing a small amount onto lips to “stain” them.

Photobucket

After 1-2 thin layers it is easily opaque.

Color & Wear: This is a deep red in the tube, almost scary. Once applied, it is much more wearable with a brightness not seen in the tube at all. OCC describes Vintage as a “Deep true burgandy” & although that is true, there is definitely some fire here.

Photobucket

The wear on this is superb. I have worn it both as a light “stain” & to full opacity. This is one of the few red shades I feel comfortable wearing while eating dinner in public after it sets up a bit. If your lips are dry, I recommend exfoliating then applying a balm. Let that sink into your lips & then blot it off. Apply your OCC Lip Tar a tiny bit at a time. Less is more & it is ultra-buildable. Perfect party lip.

Purchase: I bought mine from Sephora in a set but this shade is available on its own. OCC Lip Tars retail for $16.00 each. You can also purchase them from the Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics website directly.

Lips: Carmex Pomegranate & Carmex Everyday Lip Conditioner Review!

December 13, 2012 By StephanieLouise 612Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F12%2Flips-carmex-pomegranate-carmex-everyday.htmlLips%3A+Carmex+Pomegranate+%26+Carmex+Everyday+Lip+Conditioner+Review%212012-12-13+21%3A14%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F12%2Flips-carmex-pomegranate-carmex-everyday-lip-conditioner-review.html

Photobucket

Man…it is totally one of THOSE days! Hubby got a new internet router awhile back (even though there was nothing wrong with our other one) & said it would be a lot faster (I’ve noticed 0 difference). I’ve literally had in & out internet all morning which is totally killing me. I woke up early even…so much for that. It has thrown off my posts a bit so expect to see my Revlon Lipbutter wrap up (reds & neutrals!) later on & really awesome stuff coming up this evening! Stay tuned!

Photobucket
So now that all of that is out of the way, let’s talk about these new Carmex lippies I’ve been using! I got these awhile back but have been so swamped with work I’m just now getting to cover them! I have two varieties today, Carmex in Pomegranate & Carmex Everyday Lip Conditioner.

The Carmex Pomegranate lip balm is perfect for the winter season. This balm has an SPF of 15 but the best part is that it is water resistant! It says on the tube that it lasts for 80 minutes which is awesome! Rain, snow, water sports (Oh you get to winter in Jamaica? How nice!) this is a must-have. This has your standby classic Carmex scent mixed with Pomegranate which I find to be quite pleasant! I’m surprised it isn’t marked as medical because it really helps to help my chapped lips!

The Carmex Everyday Lip Conditioner comes in a handy squeeze tube, one of my favorite forms of balm. I’m pretty much in love, this smells/tastes like an orange dreamsicle! The texture is so different, unlike anything else I’ve tried. It feels almost like a primer you would use on your face but creamier. It blends right into your lips & they feel wonderfully soft & hydrated!

So there you have it! I didn’t grow up using lots of Carmex items but maybe I need to start! What do you think? Have you tried any of the new Carmex items?

Glossybox for November 2012 featuring Illamasqua, Kryolan, & More!

December 7, 2012 By StephanieLouise 622Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F12%2Fglossybox-for-november-2012-featuring.htmlGlossybox+for+November+2012+featuring+Illamasqua%2C+Kryolan%2C+%26+More%212012-12-07+14%3A18%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F12%2Fglossybox-for-november-2012-featuring-illamasqua-kryolan-more.html

So normally I love to do a video open box for my GLOSSYBOX supscription but that just isn’t happening. I am so sick guys. Seriously. No one wants to see this. I’m still working hard to bring you the best in beauty but there is no way you want to see me on camera. A blog post only will simply have to do!

Photobucket

I know some people weren’t thrilled with this GLOSSYBOX & while I don’t think it was the best I certainly didn’t think it was a bad box. With 2 makeup items, one nail item, one hair item, & one skin product I thought it was decently rounded out. One of the products alone nearly paid for the box.

Photobucket
Here’s the Glossybox Magazine that comes with every box. Always in color, beautiful, & a nice read.

Photobucket
Photobucket

Illamasqua Lip & Eye Medium Pencil in Honour: This pencil is a not too soft not too hard medium-dark brown. I realize this isn’t something I will be rocking on my lips but I HIGHLY appreciate them letting me know I can. When looking through my stash for Halloween tutorials & dramatic looks it was hard to find a liner that was super dramatic yet still lip safe.  This is a full size & retails for $20 so it nearly paid for the $21 box itself. This is creamy & blendable but doesn’t blend away. Looks nice on my eyes!

INCOCO Nail Polish Applique Strips in Sinderella: I love nail strips & these are a welcomed addition to my stash. These are meant to be used on bare nails & contain both a base & top coat. This is kind of a cranberry red looking shade but nice & bright. I might bring these with me on vacation!

Kryolan for Glossybox Blusher in Gloss Rosewood: I know I read & saw some complaints about this blush but I personally like it. It is supposed to apply lightly & indeed it does. It looks healthy & it is easy to apply. It says cream powder formulation but I’m really not feeling that.

Nume Style Arganics by NuMe Argan Oil: This really doesn’t feel or smell like argan oil, great for those looking for an oil without the strong smell or the oil feel. This feels almost sticky or stringy at first which had me super hesitant to put it on my hair. It smells like a shampoo kind of? Not that strong Argan scent I was expecting at all. Once applied, it soaked into my hair, nothing stick about it.

Skin & Co Roma Truffle Serum: This is a Hydro-Toning Daytime Face Serum which is meant to “slow down the signs of aging” & contains lots of good-for-your-skin ingredients. This is clear & sinks in. It is like a gel but definitely soaks in to the point where I can’t even see I have applied it. I definitely detect a scent…but sadly being sick I can’t tell you what that scent is. Sorry ๐Ÿ™

Here are swatches of the Illamasqua Lip & Eye Pencil & the Kryolan  for Glossybox Blusher in Glossy Rosewood.

Photobucket

Overall, I liked this box. This didn’t blow my mind but these are products I was happy to try. The blush is a nice size, I think it is an easy shade to wear too. Perfect for travel. I really like the Illamasqua Lip & Eye pencil too. Nail Polish Strips always make me happy!

To get your own GLOSSYBOX, check out their website! You can also earn GlossyDots which go towards a free box. If you have any questions, just let me know! You can also search for GLOSSYBOX in the top left of my blog to see what past boxes have contained. What do you think?

Nails: Revlon Ruby Ribbons Swatches + Review

December 6, 2012 By StephanieLouise 624Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F12%2Fnails-revlon-ruby-ribbons-swatches.htmlNails%3A+Revlon+Ruby+Ribbons+Swatches+%2B+Review2012-12-06+21%3A42%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F12%2Fnails-revlon-ruby-ribbons-swatches-review.html

Photobucket

This is my hands down favorite of the 3 I have shown you today. Ruby Ribbons looks so incredible in person that I could take hundreds of pictures & it STILL wouldn’t look quite as cool. I heart this SO much. Bar glitter, holo, sparkle, opacity. The density is amazing & so is the shade combination. I’ve NEVER seen Revlon come out with something at this level.

Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket
Revlon Ruby Ribbons: Red extremely fine micro glitter, purple bar glitter (or wispies as I call them for being so long & thin), & holo bar glitter packed into a clear base.

This has an indie feel to it & I’m totally digging it. How gorgeous is this right? It looks like fire on my nails, a mix of Christmas lights, fireworks, & a bundle of glitter so fabulous. I am in love. I put the layer of black base down on my ring finger after trying Brilliant Bordeaux because that was so thin. Seriously… can you even tell other than at the edges? It is that opaque!

Photobucket

I used 2 coats on my ring finger & 3 on the rest for full opacity. This covers nicely, it just layers perfectly to cover up any bald spots. The downside to this polish is the clean up… Because this is made of micro glitters (much like my beloved Sally Hansen Lava) the cleanup is kind of irritating. For some polishes, this might nearly be a dealbreaker… But Ruby Ribbons kills it so I’ll deal.

Love? Is this your favorite of the 3 or did you prefer Brilliant Bordeaux or Midnight Sparkle?

Nails: Revlon Midnight Sparkle Swatches + Review

December 6, 2012 By StephanieLouise 625Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F12%2Fnails-revlon-midnight-sparkle-swatches.htmlNails%3A+Revlon+Midnight+Sparkle+Swatches+%2B+Review2012-12-06+19%3A11%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2012%2F12%2Fnails-revlon-midnight-sparkle-swatches-review.html

Photobucket

So I showed you Brilliant Bordeaux earlier & this is the 2nd of the 3 I’m putting up today. I loved this color & then I got a bit of “haven’t I seen this before somewhere?” Yes, I think I did. I adore Polish Insomniac & recently I was lurking her Top 20 Nail Polish list & spied Deborah Lippman’s Lady Sings the Blues.

Photobucket

I don’t think it is DEAD ON but it definitely gives me the same look & I’m quite happy with the under $5 price tag. This is so incredibly opaque that you only need 2 thin coats. I used 2 for more glitter. I disected it a bit & found that the glitter is indeed silver & not a light blue or anything. It won’t show up silver though because the inky blue is so…inky!

Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket
Revlon Midnight Sparkle: An inky navy base with silver small glitter & silver medium glitter.

You can see from Polish Insomniac’s swatches of Deborah Lippman’s Lady Sings the Blues that it isn’t a dead on dupe because that one is a jelly. This dries super fast, probably because it is so thin & pigmented. I didn’t add top coat but if you did, that would make these two even more similar I think!

Photobucket

I think this is positively perfect for the winter season, almost like a dark skyline. This just goes on perfectly. Love. Although it is definitely the least flashy of the 3 I’m showing you today, I think it is super wearable!

What do you think? Love it or leave it? What do you think of it in comparison to the Deborah Lippman?
