Throwback Thursday: Wet n Wild MegaStax Glitter Brush (A Glitter Classic!)

April 4, 2013 By StephanieLouise 484Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F04%2Fthrowback-thursday-wet-n-wild-megastax.htmlThrowback+Thursday%3A+Wet+n+Wild+MegaStax+Glitter+Brush+%28A+Glitter+Classic%21%292013-04-04+22%3A48%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F04%2Fthrowback-thursday-wet-n-wild-megastax-glitter-brush-a-glitter-classic.html

So when I asked you guys on twitter/facebook if you’d be interested in seeing some old school posts about makeup I used back in the day, you seemed genuinely interested. Good thing, because I’m a hoarder. You know on tv when they tell people “You need to get rid of this. I know it is a good memory but you have to let it go” or something like that? Well I held onto quite a few makeup products from back in the day & I’m excited to show you how I used them, what they looked like, & all that jazz. If you’re not interested in see my old makeup (as hip, & cool, & with it as I was back then) then feel free to check out any of my other hundreds of posts. I’ll be featuring products every Thursday for awhile so sit back & enjoy!

 photo DSCN6772_zpsb4c1b45a.jpg

When I think back to my middle school/beginning of high school days…glitter was an obvious trend. Back when smothering your body, hair, nails, & about everything else in glitter it isn’t a surprise I jumped onto the bandwagon. More glitter in the world I say! I want to look like a fairy riding a unicorn through a glitter rainbow please! So when I show you this little gem please remember I went through two of them…. Yes.

 photo DSCN6773_zps56c5570f.jpg
This isn’t the best applicator I must admit. This reminds me of the old school push crayons where you unscrew one color & attach it to the brush for use. I don’t think I ever used it like this…maybe in the beginning in my hair. I used my fingers or literally dumped it onto myself. Man I was cool. You can see how messy this could be but when you’re a teenage awesome-sauce who needs to get glitzy a mess simply doesn’t matter.

 photo DSCN6776_zpsb09e3ba0.jpg

The glitter all got a bit mixed here & there but I am surprised young me kept it as separated as it is honestly. I was always a glitter mixologist. From top left to bottom the glitters are gold, middle is a white/clear iridescent glitter which I called glitter snow, & the bottom…well we’re going to have to take a closer look at my favorite glitter below.

 photo DSCN6786_zps16dada0e.jpg

Obviously, this is the best part right? There are bits of the other glitter & the base is the iridescent glitter with additions of gold squares & golden stars. Apparently I did try to dip the brush (or a cheap brush) in here to apply because a few strands stuck around. This was probably my favorite glitter to put in my hair. Its a good thing I liked it so much because it was hell to remove. & leaving a glitter trail through the house probably wasn’t great for other people. I say….paint the world in sparkles! I clearly haven’t changed much.

Have you ever seen these old school Wet n Wild MegaStax? I haven’t managed to find any like these although I have seen some with a single shade inside around the holidays maybe? Or Halloween? What were your favorite glitter finds growing up? What about old school Wet n Wild products?

Stila In the Moment Eye Shadow Palette Review & Swatches

April 4, 2013 By StephanieLouise 485Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F04%2Fstila-in-moment-eye-shadow-palette.htmlStila+In+the+Moment+Eye+Shadow+Palette+Review+%26+Swatches2013-04-04+14%3A14%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F04%2Fstila-in-the-moment-eye-shadow-palette-review-swatches.html

I picked this palette up awhile back at ULTA while perusing the many palettes on my wishlist. Purple is totally my think so the fact that this came with gorgeous day or smoky purples & neutrals made it an easy lust. Along with the 10 shades you also get a full sized Stila Smudge Stick Eye Liner in Tetra.

 photo DSCN5891_zpseba20579.jpg
I didn’t swatch the eyeliner but I plan to swatch it in the future along with some other Stila eyeliners I have. I love this shade though! Perfect for this palette.

 photo DSCN5875_zpsd133c4f3.jpg
 photo DSCN5879_zps9c06ece0.jpg

This is a light purple palette made of cardboard but it feel sturdy. It is simple but cute. I really like that each of the shades in this palette have names. I always appreciate that.

Swatches over primer. All swatches are dry.

 photo DSCN5902_zps8c6c3497.jpg

Left to right: Instinct, Impulse, Glance, Improvise, & Catalyst.

 photo DSCN5909_zps4d6eb085.jpg

Left to right: Desire, Wonder, Spontaneous, Whim, & Captivate.

There aren’t any matte shades in this palette (which is fine with me honestly) & they are all absolutely lovely. With the exception of Desire, these are very pigmented with nice blendability & color payoff. Desire isn’t a bad shade it is just soft & a tad chalky. I like it as a base shade or as a highlight to offset all the shimmer if you are using this palette alone.

I normally pick out favorites from palettes but I honestly just love all of these. As a whole this palette is a big hit. Fall, Spring, Summer, Winter…it is perfection. Their are both cool & warm shades which I also love. I do want to point out how absolutely superb Catalyst is. A super smoky shade with awesome purple shimmer! Oh behave!

I’m loving it & although it was a bit pricey I think it was worth it. (affiliate link) This palette retails for $39 from the ULTA website & when you take into consideration what you get it is a good deal. The eyeliner alone retails around $20 alone! I didn’t swatch these wet but they can also be used that way which is another bonus.

Have you tried this palette out? What are your favorite neutral or purple based palettes?

Dear Wonderful Readers…My Hair Needs Your Help!

April 3, 2013 By StephanieLouise 486Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F04%2Fdear-wonderful-readersmy-hair-needs.htmlDear+Wonderful+Readers...My+Hair+Needs+Your+Help%212013-04-03+13%3A02%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F04%2Fdear-wonderful-readers-my-hair-needs-your-help.html

So it is officially time for my hair to get a change. I’ve worked really hard to grow all the dye out of my hair (because purple & teal weren’t quite up to teaching standards!) but now I can do whatever I want! I really want to do what I did years ago with chunks of deep purple & teal in my hair & keep the rest natural. My hair is also a bit long for me & I’ve let my layers grow out. I have thick, fine hair for reference!

Woohoo! Back to thinking about damaging my hair. Since it has been years since I have dyed it or bleached out chunks to prep for bright shades, I don’t have the color safe product mojo anymore. What are the best products out there right now to help keep my color brighter longer? What are you doing with your hair this summer? &…how short to go?

I’m really excited to color my hair again but also nervous…hopefully it is like riding a bike? My plan at the moment is to dye my hair blonder to hide the distinct highlights I get during the summer which will lighten it then add the chunks of teal & purple. Go big or go home right? I’m nervous about how it is going to look but also really excited to have the freedom to do so!

So there you have it! I figure I’ll cut it first then dye it…because this is just too much hair as it is! Ch-ch-changes! I’m excited! What are you changing up for summer?

You’ll notice a contest on this video, here are the Sweeps Rules & the Prizes & Promotions page! I wish you lots of luck when you enter! This is a sponsored post but obviously all opinions are definitely my own! I really want to hear your tips & tricks as I embark on this new hair journey!!! XO

An OPI Steal from ULTA + Back to Regular Posts!

 photo DSCN6060_zpsb58ba7fc.jpg

Hey guys! I wanted to apologize for the recent silence. I normally post at least once a day so I got a few questions since I’ve been quiet for the past 3. Truth is, I just needed a bit of time! Hubby is on night shift this week & we don’t get to spend as much time together so it was nice to have a relaxing weekend tomorrow. I have lots of swatches, new products, & reviews coming up but tonight will be a quick post!

I have a few of the shades in this OPI mini set so I passed it up when it first came out. I wouldn’t have looked twice except these would be perfect on trips or to throw in my bag for a touch up. A few of my very favorite OPI shades are in this set so clearly I already have full sizes but these minis are great! Plus, the brushes aren’t terrible like on most minis. If you are new to OPI, looking to try some basic shades, or looking for the perfect shades for travel this is awesome!

 photo DSCN6063_zpsd23b65f5.jpg

Left to right: OPI Alpine Snow, Bubble Bath, Tickle My France-y, Kiss Me On My Tulips, Red Lights Ahead…Where?

 photo DSCN6062_zps3b4e285a.jpg

Left to right: OPI Big Apple Red, I’m Not Really a Waitress, You Don’t Know Jacques, Vampsterdam, Lincoln Park After Dark

Like I said, this was picked up from ULTA on clearance. I can’t guarantee it will be at your local store but if it appeals to you I think it is worth checking out! Full price was $24.99 but I got it for $14.99…glad I waited!

Anyway, I’m excited to be back to blogging normalacy & to share some seriously cool stuff! What are your favorite OPI shades, especially the core shades? I’ve been picking up quite a few recently & loving them!

Hard Candy Nail Polish in So So Sequin Swatches & Review

March 29, 2013 By StephanieLouise 488Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F03%2Fhard-candy-nail-polish-in-so-so-sequin.htmlHard+Candy+Nail+Polish+in+So+So+Sequin+Swatches+%26+Review2013-03-29+12%3A58%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F03%2Fhard-candy-nail-polish-in-so-so-sequin-swatches-review.html

 photo DSCN5688_zps1d8402ab.jpg

So I have picked up quite a few Hard Candy polishes on my own but So So Sequins was sent to me & I’m really excited to show this to you! It was sold out at my Walmart when I went to get a few. I’m absolutely in love…all that bling!

 photo DSCN5685_zps8ca69fcc.jpg

 photo DSCN5706_zpsde757758.jpg

Hard Candy So So Sequin- Dense silver-y pink micro hex glitter, silver holo micro hexes, & medium fair blue hexes suspended in a clear base. Seen here in 2 medium coats on bare nails. No top coat.

For only $3.97 each & available exclusively at Walmart, this line is definitely a big hit. With uniquely fabulous glitter, glass fleck, & other combinations I’m very impressed. This glitter is a bit on the thicker side of nail polish but I personally like that because I can wear it alone or over a base. I’ve read a few bloggers saying that the glitters are thick but that doesn’t bother me. If you have issues, I recommend dabbing or adding a touch of thinner.  The holos really pop & this mixture is just lovely!

**This polish was sent in consideration of review. All opinions are my own.

Throwback Thursday: My Two Favorite Lancome Quads Including What Might Have Been My First Taupe!

Good thing, because I’m a hoarder. You know on tv when they tell people “You need to get rid of this. I know it is a good memory but you have to let it go” or something like that? photo DSCN5802_zps50c3ff2e.jpg

I believe this is my first Throwback Thursday post featuring a higher end brand. I grew up on Lancome & my mother still swears by most their products today. Because of this, I had Lancome in my life which made me feel fancy. Both of these quads were part of some kind of gift with purchase I’m sure & I adored them. I have some other quads but these were my 2 favorites. Want to make this post so special? I think Misty Mink from the Lancome Maquiriche quad which also contains Creme Lustre, Burnt Sand, & Honeymoon. I adored it then & it is still rather lovely. What makes the Lancome Color Focus Quad in Positive, Peep, Contrast, & Darkroom so special? I wore this on some of my first dates where I’m sure I looked like a harlot.

 photo DSCN5794_zpsba5317a2.jpg
 photo DSCN5801_zps88607818.jpg
 photo DSCN5804_zpsefa21d3d.jpg

Nothing too wild on the packaging. I’m pretty sure these are still quite similar to the freebie quads they give away now right?

 photo DSCN5809_zps7268fec3.jpg

Lancome Maquiriche Quad left to right: Creme Lustre, Misty Mink, Honeymoon, & Burnt Sand. No primer.

From looking at the palette you can see I used the heck out of this palette especially the shade Honeymoon. I think I used it as a base shade & highlight for quite awhile. I loved Misty Mink so much…my grown up taupe collection is actually making me tear up a bit. It is like looking back at a ribbon I won in school! I loved this palette but I had very few neutrals I used frequently. This was special.

 photo DSCN5813_zps6f74f76a.jpg

Lancome Color Focus Quad left to right: Peep, Positive, Darkroom, & Contrast. No primer.

I used this quad quite a bit in high school. I loved Positive as a base shade. Why was this a date palette? Those two extremely dark shades of course! I thought smearing them all over my lid (just kill me, really do it) was absolutely the end all be all of sex appeal. Ah to be young & in high school. I used this mostly when I was on dance team & on dates…when looking insane was apparently okay.

What were your favorite eyeshadows growing up? What palettes do you have memories tied to? Is there anything your mother (granmother, sister, aunt, etc.) used or did that rubbed off on you?

Flower Beauty Nail Lacquer in Good Bud-Dy Review & Swatches

March 28, 2013 By StephanieLouise 490Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F03%2Fflower-beauty-nail-lacquer-in-good-bud.htmlFlower+Beauty+Nail+Lacquer+in+Good+Bud-Dy+Review+%26+Swatches2013-03-28+14%3A51%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F03%2Fflower-beauty-nail-lacquer-in-good-bud-dy-review-swatches.html

When I purchased the Flower Beauty Blush & Bronzer Duo in Ready, Set, Glow! I also picked up this polish. This is such a me color so I figured I’d go with something safe for a new line. There wasn’t a huge display of varying shades but they all looked pretty wearable. They retail for around $5 & are both 3 Free & promise shiny finish. Shiny you say? I’m in.

I’m so bummed I couldn’t get this to photograph quite right. This actually looks completely blue leaning but it isn’t. It definitely has some green & is brighter. #bloggercolorissues

 photo DSCN4510_zps5abced1e.jpg photo DSCN4492_zps3553c512.jpg
Flower Beauty Good Bud-Dy- A beautiful blue leaning teal. No shimmer. Shiny finish. 2 even thin coats.

I really loved the formula on this! I was afraid it was going to be too thin upon first coat but it evened out rather nicely! The color is fabulous, just as pigmented as in the bottle. Plus…no staining! It is actually brighter than my pictures suggest which tends to stain on my nails. I’m impressed. I’ll definitely be picking up some more of these polishes & hope they’re just as good. So far, 2 big hits from the Flower Beauty line. Great job Drew Barrymore, you nailed it! (har har har)

You can only purchase Flower Beauty at Walmart. For more information about Flower Beauty, see my prior review where I lay all that out. After I removed the Gelish & CND manicure I’m excited to be back to swatching! I have loads of polishes to show you so stay tuned!

The Daily Palette from Two Cosmetics Review & Swatches

March 27, 2013 By StephanieLouise 491Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F03%2Fthe-daily-palette-from-two-cosmetics.htmlThe+Daily+Palette+from+Two+Cosmetics+Review+%26+Swatches2013-03-27+12%3A51%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F03%2Fthe-daily-palette-from-two-cosmetics-review-swatches.html

*Disclo from PR photo blogdisclosure-providedbypr_zps4579e400.jpg
When it comes to an easy eyeshadow look, I always grab for neutrals. Yes, I count taupe as neutral so don’t be silly. The point is, without  great neutral palette getting ready in a hurry is just more work! Today I’m showing you The Daily Palette from Two Cosmetics which is very reminiscent of the original Urban Decay Naked palette…but for a fraction of the price!

First, Two Cosmetics is a charitable makeup company. For every product you purchase they donate one to a worthy woman. I believe they switch up charities & currently one of their charities is Support Military Spouses which obviously holds a special place in my heart being that I’m an Air Force spouse. Cheers to brands that give back.

 photo DSCN5996_zpsf22c99cf.jpg
 photo DSCN6005_zpse9060029.jpg

This palette is stored in your average cardboard packaging & comes with a decent eyeshadow brush.

Here are some close ups of the shades so you can see them with a bit more detail:

 photo DSCN6011_zpsd9219a5d.jpg
 photo DSCN6010_zpsfcb149a4.jpg
 photo DSCN6009_zpsa9e383d0.jpg
 photo DSCN6008_zpsd502b0eb.jpg

You can see the shades vary a bit in finish but they are all easy to wear & neutral. You can also note that these shades aren’t exact dupes of the Urban Decay Naked palette & are just a touch different here & there. I don’t think these differences in general shades is enough to discredit it but rather just a note. Urban Decay shadows swatch smoother but for the price I was impressed with these since this is a nice range for less than half the price.

 photo DSCN6014_zpsd46639ec.jpg

These swatches were done over a primer but I did them with my fingers. Each swatch is even in application.

 photo DSCN6019_zps108015cf.jpg
 photo DSCN6016_zpsba1b2b08.jpg

The stars of this palette are definitely the shimmering shades but overall there is a nice selection. While a few of the mattes don’t show up as well, they are definitely workable. They definitely give off the neutral vibe that the Naked palette has & a few of the shades are different enough that I actually might use them more with neutrals like the more blue toned gunmetal. I love that shade!

The Daily Look Palette is currently on sale for $22.50 on twocosmetics.com which is less than half the price of the Urban Decay Naked palette. I think if you’re looking for a similar palette this is a nice option!

**Product was provided for consideration. For more information, see my disclosure policy.

New Revlon Lip Butter Shades in Juicy Papaya, Pink Lemonade, Sorbet, & Wild Watermelon Swatches & Review

March 26, 2013 By StephanieLouise 492Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F03%2Fnew-revlon-lip-butter-shades-in-juicy.htmlNew+Revlon+Lip+Butter+Shades+in+Juicy+Papaya%2C+Pink+Lemonade%2C+Sorbet%2C+%26+Wild+Watermelon+Swatches+%26+Review2013-03-26+14%3A27%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F03%2Fnew-revlon-lip-butter-shades-in-juicy-papaya-pink-lemonade-sorbet-wild-watermelon-swatches-review.html

 photo DSCN6083_zps2c1a3476.jpg

So if you’ve been following me for awhile then you’ve probably seen my obsession with the Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter range. I did some big posts & separated them into 3 color families: Pinks, Red & Neutral, & Orange & Purple. I broke down each shade & there isn’t one shade where I think “Eh, I’ll probably never wear that” because I just love the formula & varying colors. When I first saw that Revlon was putting out 4 Limited Edition Lip Butter shades I freaked to find them. Now they appear to be finding their way onto permanent displays! Now that you have a bit of background, check out what I think of the new shades: Juicy Papaya, Pink Lemonade, Sorbet, & Wild Watermelon!

 photo DSCN6074_zps9966b4ff.jpg

 photo DSCN6081_zpsfa3c10e7.jpg

 photo DSCN6088_zpscf7da63f.jpg

Left to right: Juicy Papaya, Pink Lemonade, Sorbet, & Wild Watermelon.

Juicy Papaya- A warm, light peachy coral. This swatched a bit more orange on my fair skin but leans more peachy nude on the lips.

Pink Lemonade- Pale milky pink with hidden pink shimmer. it swatched really light but it is buildable on the lips. The shimmer isn’t visible on the lips but I think it helps to give this shade a bit more ease of wear.

Sorbet- Bright cool toned fuchsia. This has some cool blue/purple shimmer but you have to look really close. It isn’t noticeable on the lip either but it definitely gives it some depth.

Wild Watermelon- A juicy warm toned pink red. This looks like straight up summer.

I feel like Revlon really listened to what we wanted in the their core shade. Some bright shades that don’t have visible glitter! I love the Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter line in general with the window on top, stickers on the bottom resembling the color, & the packaging is actually really attractive. These lay somewhere between a lipstick & a balm where I use a mirror to apply them usually but they don’t feel or wear like a lipstick. These new colors are a welcomed addition the the range!

Juicy Papaya is everything I want & isn’t as bright as Tutti Fruitti (although I love this bright shade!) & doesn’t contain glitter like shade Peach Parfait. Amazing shade. Pink Lemonade is going to be a big winner for a lot of people because it is a very fair pink with that slightly milky look when layered that is so incredibly popular. Sorbet is definitely a stunner & I think most people will instantly fall in love. I love a cool, bright fuchsia so I’m a happy girl! I think Wild Watermelon might be my favorite because this is a rare shade to find for a drugstore price! I love it!

What do you think of the new Revlon shades? I think they got here just in time for warm weather!

Softsoap Scentsations Limited Edition Lemonade Berry Splash Review

Yes we have fresh snow on the ground. It is sickening. I want sunshine & I want it now. Since apparently Nebraska has never & will never care about what I want. So what is a girl to do? Wear neons, flip flops inside, & use Softsoap Scentsations Limited Edition Lemonade Berry Splash body wash of course!

Tis the season for me to obsess about body wash & this one leaped into my cart without a second thought. This smells like a tall glass of strawberry lemonade complete with the perfect balance of sweet & tart. You’ll also get notes of orange, grapefruit, & some other fruit i can’t quite place. This lathers nicely & contains moisturizing beads that look like tiny pearls.

In case you missed it, I’m still also obsessing on the St. Ives Pear & Soy body wash but this brightened up my shower recently. If you remember back to the Clean & Clear Morning Burst commercials this scent reminds me very much of that idea, definitely a great pick me up!
