Smashbox Limited Edition Heat Wave Palette Swatches & Review!

June 10, 2013 By StephanieLouise 414Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F06%2Fsmashbox-limited-edition-heat-wave.htmlSmashbox+Limited+Edition+Heat+Wave+Palette+Swatches+%26+Review%212013-06-10+14%3A32%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F06%2Fsmashbox-limited-edition-heat-wave-palette-swatches-review.html

I bought it. Affiliate links.

Like I said when I reviewed the Smashbox Pop of Pink set, Smashbox is infiltrating my beauty collection full force. The Smashbox Heat Wave palette is both new & limited edition. These aren’t shades I’d normally go for in a palette but I thought I could make it work. The shades are gorgeous. Keep reading to see swatches & review!

 photo SmashboxHeatWavePaletteReviewSwatches02_zps9b226627.jpg

Inside you find 10 shades, a nice double ended brush, & a full size mirror. This palette is medium sized & the outer packaging is a beige/silver. Very sleek looking. This brush is actually quite functional! I leave it inside the palette & use it on the shades when I apply them foiled/wet.

 photo SmashboxHeatWavePaletteReviewSwatches03_zps5fee31e6.jpg

Housed inside are 8 shimmers & 2 mattes. The shades are warm or neutral which is interesting. Normally there is a mix of warm/cool. This palette contains quite a few neutrals & the more colorful options are a bit subdued.

This palette actually contains 17 grams ( .59 oz) of product which is a lot! The $49 price tag might seem hefty but you are getting more than your average amount of eyeshadows. These shades can be used wet or dry which is amazing as well. I love foiling shades & having options. It is more like you get 20 shades.

 photo SmashboxHeatWavePaletteReviewSwatches06_zpsd8d89a6b.jpg

 photo SmashboxHeatWavePaletteReviewSwatches07_zps7f3a22c6.jpg
I wish these shades had names so I could describe them more easily but no dice! Here they are dry over Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer.
Top row: Matte peach, warm bronze shimmer, matte medium brown, warm coral toned pink with golden shimmer, metallic antiqued gold.
Bottom row: shimmery (nearly metallic!) beige pink, shimmery warm pewter, murky blue gray shimmer, darkened lavender that almost comes off plum, & a dark satin taupey brown.

 photo SmashboxHeatWavePaletteReviewSwatches08_zps78128440.jpg

& wet which is my personal favorite also over Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer.

Unfortunately I found that using them dry resulted in decent & noticeable fallout. I recommend applying your eyeshadow before your foundation. These shades are also pretty light on their own so I highly recommend using a primer as well. If you aren’t planning to use them wet then this might be a deal breaker for you. I’ve used them wet almost every time which results in a beautiful color so this doesn’t bother me a bit! This palette has some nice flexibility, especially for summer. I was afraid this wouldn’t work on my fair, cool toned skin but it has looked fab! I’ll have a tutorial up soon with a tropical eye look soon!

You can purchase the Smashbox Heat Wave Palette from Sephora, ULTA, Nordstrom, & wherever Smashbox products are sold. Like I said, this is a limited edition palette so if you want it you can’t wait too long!

Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquer Swatches + Review + Video Demo!

June 9, 2013 By StephanieLouise 415Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F06%2Frimmel-show-off-lip-lacquer-swatches.htmlRimmel+Show+Off+Lip+Lacquer+Swatches+%2B+Review+%2B+Video+Demo%212013-06-09+17%3A28%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F06%2Frimmel-show-off-lip-lacquer-swatches-review-video-demo.html

 photo RimmelShowOffLipLacquerMainPhoto_zpsa2459de7.jpg

Rimmel released a new line called Show Off Lip Lacquers here in the US recently which I revealed to you here! These lippies were released in the UK last January & I’ve been chomping at the bit ever sense. They’ve gotten rave reviews & I can see why! Keep reading to see lots of photos, more information, & a video so you can see the shades in action!

 photo RimmelShowOffsSwatchesReview03_zps89439edd.jpg

Today I have 6 shades to share, all creams. There are also quite a few shimmers which you can see on the Nouveau Cheap blog here! I’ve taken quite awhile to test wear on each shade & can tell you I’ll be picking up some more! There are 14 shades that have been released here in the US. That’s great considering the UK only got 8! Most of the US only shades contain shimmer.

Here’s my video where you can see each shade applied with information about the products as well. I’m pretty proud of it! I’m not a master editor yet but I’m happy it came out like it did!

 photo RimmelShowOffsSwatchesReview09_zps0f41134e.jpg

Each shade comes with a twist off seal. While shopping be sure this isn’t broken. The shade name is also located on the seal which is why I am leaving them on.

 photo RimmelShowOffsSwatchesReview08_zpsdd93ed6a.jpg

The applicator on these is pretty amazing & I’ve never seen anything like it. At first glance they look like your average gloss applicator but there is actually a well. The color then is deposited on your lips more evenly &  you don’t have to pump the tube for more product like other glosses. The lid resembles a black diamond which is a cool shape. They’re irregular so they catch the light. The tube itself & lid are plastic. You get 0.18 fl oz in each tube.

 photo RimmelShowOffsSwatchesReview04_zps918c3c61.jpg

The formula on these shades are pretty even across the board! They are ultra creamy, ultra pigmented, & not tacky at all. They don’t stain your lips so they don’t wear more than 3-4 hours. You can see in the video about the transfer. Very comfortable to wear! You can even put a lip balm underneath them without altering the lacquer which is nice if you have dry lips. On normal lips, these shouldn’t be too drying or moisturizing. They have a nice balance. After about 1 hour they lose most of the gloss & they end up being more of a satin/matte. You can then add more product or top with another gloss.

Left tor right: Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquer in Nova, Apocoliptic, Big Bang, Luna, Stellar, & Nude Eclipse. One swipe. Pigmented as heck right?

 photo RimmelShowOffsSwatchesReview02_zpsbb73d88a.jpg

I am so crazy happy with these shade. In fact, although I’ve been passing on shimmery shades lately, I might just need to snatch up some from this line. These are so comfortable, ultra pigmented, & unlike most lip products coming out lately they don’t stain my lips. I love stains but not when I want something a little more carefree, I don’t have to worry about these sliding around & staining everything in sight. I am so impressed with these shades!

You can see the display where I found these shades in my spotted post here from Walgreens.

What do you think of these shades? Will you be trying the new Rimmel Show Offs? What shade appeals to you most?

Glossybox for May 2013 featuring Xtreme Lashes, Nicka K NY, & More!

Happy One Year Anniversary USA Glossybox!
 photo GlossyboxMay2013USReview011_zps541bdb2d.jpg
Affiliate links. PR Sample.

I can’t believe it has only been a year since I first subscribed/started working with Glossybox! I have enjoyed it quite a bit & I love looking forward to a surprise each month. Along the way some standouts have been products from Tarte, Zoya, Kryolan, & much more. This month the Glossybox theme is “A Year of Beauty” because…well…it is their one year! With a “collection that embraces both our past and our future” I bring you the May 2013 Glossybox!

 photo GlossyboxMay2013USReview07_zps1d8f67de.jpg

Surprisingly, one of my favorite parts of the Glossybox this month was the Glossy Mag. I loved the layout & products mentioned. My dream is to be included in a Glossy Mag someday!

To see my unboxing & first impressions, check out the video above! Please don’t forget to subscribe on Youtube, I do lots of videos exclusively there on topics I don’t cover over here!

 photo GlossyboxMay2013USReview05_zps0e5c63a7.jpg

Epionce Intense Defense Anti-Aging & Repair Serum
Like I said in the video, this sample was itty bitty. It didn’t have much of a scent & wasn’t moisturizing enough for me. Out of the tube it was really slick but dried tacky. Not for me.

 photo GlossyboxMay2013USReview09_zps510af525.jpg

Etre Belle Collagen & Aloe Vera Hydro Mask
I loved this mask! This is one of those cloth type masks & I used it in the tub. My skin was nicely moisturized & there was leftover product which I massaged into my somewhat damaged skin. There was also excess in the packet which I took down my neck & used a bit the next day as well.

 photo GlossyboxMay2013USReview010_zpsf3b047d7.jpg

European Wax Center Exfoliate & Lotion
I haven’t used these or looked up if there is a location near me for the free wax. These are one use packets so I’m holding off until I travel.

 photo GlossyboxMay2013USReview02_zpsac44aba5.jpg

Nicka K New York Absolute! Perfume Stick in 100 Free Spirit
I love this scent! My skin really pulls out the honey & I’ve been wearing it layered with everything from floral to tropical scents. Across the board it is lovely. I love solid perfumes but I usually stick to one brand. it was nice finding another!

 photo GlossyboxMay2013USReview01_zpsd2e00baf.jpg

Sebastian Professional Volupt Spray
Honestly I’ve only used this once because I’ve been trying a new haircare line to review. When I did use it, my hair didn’t get crispy & still felt soft.

 photo GlossyboxMay2013USReview03_zps665f450c.jpg
 photo GlossyboxMay2013USReview04_zps73d868ed.jpg

Xtreme lashes GlideLiner Long Lasting Eye Pencil in Black Pearl + Sharpener
This pencil is really soft which still makes me nervous but the shade is pretty. I like the pearl throughout. It makes it nice for night time looks. I loved that they included a sharpener as well.

Overall a very nice box! I love the perfume & the full size eyeliner is great. The mask was a bit hit as well!

Glossybox is a monthly beauty subscription that brings products straight to your door each month for $21. Please use my referral link so they know I sent you! I love the surprise each month.

(NOTE: This post was deleted & re-written. I loved it before but I had an open copy on another computer which reverted it back to a draft. I’m really sorry for the confusion!)

The Balm Frat Boy Blush Swatches & Review

June 8, 2013 By StephanieLouise 417Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F06%2Fthe-balm-frat-boy-blush-swatches-review.htmlThe+Balm+Frat+Boy+Blush+Swatches+%26+Review2013-06-08+16%3A06%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F06%2Fthe-balm-frat-boy-blush-swatches-review.html

 photo TheBalmFratBoyBlushReviewSwatches01_zps0daa0ea4.jpg
I bought it. Affiliate links.

When it comes to blush, The Balm has my perfect summer shade. A bit of coral & a bit of pink this shade is juuuuust right. I purchased this of Hautelook after mooning over it for a very long time. Currently, I’m kicking myself for waiting so long! Keep reading to see my thoughts, swatches, & why you probably need The Balm Frat Boy blush in your life too.

 photo TheBalmFratBoyBlushReviewSwatches02_zps3b966249.jpg
 photo TheBalmFratBoyBlushReviewSwatches03_zpsb8ae53df.jpg

The packaging on this shade is just what I like. This is a sturdy cardboard with a magnetic closure. Easy to use, a nice wide pan for a big brush, & it is just too cute. Cardboard packaging definitely helps to prevent breakage & even cracking because it absorbs breakage better than plastic. The cute football/cheerleader them is perfection & just feels so right for this color that has a pop of pep.

 photo TheBalmFratBoyBlushReviewSwatches04_zpseb160580.jpg

The Balm Frat Boy is a medium coral pink with a gold satin sheen. Pigmentation is smooth & even making this a beautiful blush. This shade can also be used as an eyeshadow. This pigmentation isn’t so crazy that you have to barely touch it for color so I feel like you get a more even application. Pigmented but you can layer & blend without too much effort.

Like I said, I purchased this shade off Hautelook with a discount. The Balm pops up for wicked prices that I take advantage off here & there. You can join Hautelook using my referral code here! You can also purchase this blush from Nordstrom & wherever The Balm products are sold.

What do you thick of this shade? What is your favorite The Balm product?

PR Sample. Giveaway thanks to Freshie & Zero.

So kick the weekend off to a great start I have my new favorite necklace to show you & a giveaway! Freshie & Zero specializes in simple designs that are really beautiful. Each piece is original while being a simple statement. Each piece is handmade in Nashville, Tennessee. Keep reading to see more photos & to win your own necklace!

From Freshie & Zero-
I strive to create jewelry that is simple and feminine, modern yet classic.  I tend to use basic geometric shapes and I constantly push myself to create new ways of making a unique piece of jewelry out of these basic forms. Each piece is handcrafted using a hammer and wire and the end result is a mix of delicate sophistication and bold elegance, from the dainty wire outlines to the more solid silver hammered discs. Occasionally I add touches of semi-precious gemstones or pearls, and have started doing more wire wrapping to add touches of delicate and edgy irregularity.

 photo Freshie-amp-Zero-Silver-Loop-Necklace-02_zps5ad92332.jpg

This is the gorgeous Freshie & Zero Many Moons necklace in sterling silver. You can see the hammering which is a lovely touch.

 photo Freshie-amp-Zero-Silver-Loop-Necklace-03_edited-1_zps2f3b7c72.jpg

Now you can see the length, it is perfect on its own but also for layering. My favorite is the silver since I wear silver the most often plus I like to mix & match metals. You can also order this necklace in gold or in the oxidized option. Mine is the 16 inch so it is a bit shorter. If you don’t plan on layering then the 18 inch length might be better for you. The top photo is from my weekly favorites video which you can watch here!

Want to win your very own beautiful necklace? You can win the necklace I’m wearing or a $50 gift certificate to Freshie & Zero, your choice! This giveaway is open to US residents only. Sally Hansen Sugar Coat Nail Polish Swatches + Review Part #1

June 7, 2013 By StephanieLouise 419Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F06%2Fsally-hansen-sugar-coat-nail-polish.htmlSally+Hansen+Sugar+Coat+Nail+Polish+Swatches+%2B+Review+Part+%2312013-06-07+18%3A33%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F06%2Fsally-hansen-sugar-coat-nail-polish-swatches-review-part-1.html

 photo SallyHansenSugarCoatsPart1Main_zps15c0f280.jpg

When it comes to nail trends, I tend to dive right in. The texture trend wave is faltering for some people but I still love them. I’ve been awaiting the Sally Hansen Sugar Coat polishes for quite awhile & now I get to share them with you! I broke my swatches up into two posts because I have a total of 7 & the first 3 I have to show you are the most spring-like. Keep reading to see swatches & review of Sally Hansen Sugar Coat Nail Polishes in Sour Apple, Bubble Plum, & Cotton Candies.
The Sally Hansen Sugar Coats are pretty even across the board with these 3 shades. With the exception of Sour Apple, you need only 2 coats of these. Sour Apple needed 3 but I might try it again with thicker coats. These polishes are quite odd…you can feel & see the grit in this polish as you apply not just as it dries. Like the Zoya Pixie Dust polishes I reviewed for Summer 2013, you need to let each coat fully dry in between & not use a top coat. These feel more gritty than many of my other textures.

 photo SallyHansenSugarCoatPolishesPart104_zps0cc4b6e0.jpg

 photo SallyHansenSugarCoatPolishesPart105_zps049fe39b.jpg

Sally Hansen Sugar Coat Nail Polish in Cotton Candies- Bright bubblegum pink with a matte, textured finish. 2 coats.

 photo SallyHansenSugarCoatPolishesPart108_zps8811b46a.jpg
 photo SallyHansenSugarCoatPolishesPart107_zps9f73b361.jpg

Sally Hansen Sugar Coat Nail Polish in Bubble Plum- Purple leaning lilac with a matte, textured finish. 2 coats.

 photo SallyHansenSugarCoatPolishesPart109_zps409306ba.jpg
 photo SallyHansenSugarCoatPolishesPart1011_zps21f0ca55.jpg

Sally Hansen Sugar Coat Nail Polish in Sour Apple- Soft pastel mint green with a matte, textured finish. 3 coats.

I really enjoy these polishes & the shades work nicely as a bit of color. I find that because these are more textured they seem to cling to dirt too. I find myself really having to wash my nails more. I think they’re fun & really different, I don’t have anything quite like them. These don’t have any shimmer to them like the Zoya polishes I reviewed here but I think they might in the future.

What do you think of these polishes? Are you over the texture trend?

Victoria’s Secret Limited Edition Eye Shadow Duo in Bon Voyage Review + Swatches

June 7, 2013 By StephanieLouise 420Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F06%2Fvictorias-secret-limited-edition-eye.htmlVictoria%27s+Secret+Limited+Edition+Eye+Shadow+Duo+in+Bon+Voyage+Review+%2B+Swatches2013-06-07+12%3A29%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F06%2Fvictorias-secret-limited-edition-eye-shadow-duo-in-bon-voyage-review-swatches.html

 photo VS-Duo-in-Bon-Voyage-Limited-Edition-02_zpsfd972d64.jpg
I bought it.

I am such a sucker for baked eyeshadows. You can use them wet or dry so it is like getting double bang for your buck. When I went into Victoria’s Secret I was actually seeking out a newer quad but this duo won out. The packaging is really cut, I have always liked the Victoria’s Secret baked eyeshadows, & it was limited edition so I couldn’t possibly miss out…right? Keep reading to see the swatches & review!
The exterior packaging on this baby is actually really cute. You have copper ropes creating an outline against a gradient blue background with a tinge of holo to it. Plus, a peek window so you can see what shade your buying & that it hasn’t been tampered with. Cheers to that.

 photo VS-Duo-in-Bon-Voyage-Limited-Edition-03_zps9f6f576c.jpg

On the back of the box:
Welcome to paradise, Bombshell. Dive into the glamorous life. Complementary shade duo for a custom eye look. Pigment-rich formula with a satiny texture drapes lids in pure color and an alluring finish.

VS TIP: For the perfect blend, wear the lighter shade all over lids, all the way up to the browbone. Wear the darker shade on lower lids, concentrating application in the crease for added depth.

 photo VS-Duo-in-Bon-Voyage-Limited-Edition-04_zps726f1e30.jpg
 photo VS-Duo-in-Bon-Voyage-Limited-Edition-06_zps5f9b48bb.jpg

You get 3 grams of product which is actually pretty descent since they are nicely pigmented & can be used wet/dry. For reference, a MAC single pan eyeshadow contains 1.5 grams for $15 & this has 3 grams for $15. The packaging the shade itself comes in is a lovely copper crinkled foil plastic packaging with a peek window. Quite striking. The packaging is more true to color in the 2nd photo, the copper was really reflective!

 photo VS-Duo-in-Bon-Voyage-Limited-Edition-05_zpsda7caf1a.jpg

The lighter shade in this duo is a bare warm vanilla with blue/silver veins & golden satin shimmer. The darker shade is a very cool brown with a bit of taupe with bronze shimmer. Both i consider a satin finish & there really isn’t much fallout if any when I use them dry. None when i use them wet.

 photo VS-Duo-in-Bon-Voyage-Limited-Edition-01_zps85085b0c.jpg
 photo VS-Duo-in-Bon-Voyage-Limited-Edition-07_zpsbbba66f1.jpg

Swatches left to right: light shade dry, light shade wet, dark shade dry, dark shade wet.

Sadly this duo has sold out online so if you want to grab it you’ll need to go into your local Victoria’s Secret. They had other shades that were limited edition as well but this was the one that spoke to me. I love the packaging, the shades themselves are lovely, & I think it is a nice value. I see myself reaching for this a lot this summer.

What do you think? Have you tried Victoria’s Secret eyeshadows? Do you like baked shadows? If you want to see a quick tutorial with this duo just let me know in the comments!

Smashbox Pop of Pink Set Swatches + Review

June 6, 2013 By StephanieLouise 421Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F06%2Fsmashbox-pop-of-pink-set-swatches-review.htmlSmashbox+Pop+of+Pink+Set+Swatches+%2B+Review2013-06-06+14%3A17%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F06%2Fsmashbox-pop-of-pink-set-swatches-review.html

 photo SmashboxPopofPinkSetReviewSwatches05_zps0b3d5ceb.jpg

I bought it. Affiliate links.

I’ve been picking up a lot of Smashbox lately & I’ve been very happy with everything. This is the Pop of Pink set which I found at ULTA last month. What made me pick this baby up? You get 4 FULL SIZED products for only $29.00 ! If you love pink, want to try more from Smashbox, or just like to snag a great deal this could definitely be for you. I think the Smashbox Pop of Pink set is an ULTA exclusive because I haven’t spotted it anywhere else. It is on the Smashbox website but it isn’t on sale…yet! I believe I picked mine up for $39 so lucky you, it is on sale! I don’t regret purchasing it at the full price, keep reading to see why!

 photo SmashboxPopofPinkSetReviewSwatches010_zps010b07ea.jpg

The products come in a box like this. My ULTA had testers out so keep an eye out if you’re looking for this set! Swatches of the products are at the bottom of this post after my mini reviews!

 photo SmashboxPopofPinkSetReviewSwatches03_zpse9707e8c.jpg

Smashbox Reflection High Shine Lip Gloss in Pop of Pink ( retails for $19 )
I had almost bought this type of gloss at least 3-4 times so I knew I was buying this set when I say it. This is a gorgeous pink that looks like a slightly softened neon in the tube. I loved the Urban Decay glosses that looked similar & I enjoy tube glosses…this is no exception. I don’t see this shade listed as available for individual purchase so I urge you to check out this set if you’re interested. This isn’t too sticky but has enough grip to wear longer than many other glosses. I love this shade & I think it is really wearable, especially layered.

 photo SmashboxPopofPinkSetReviewSwatches06_zpsf980f058.jpg

 photo SmashboxPopofPinkSetReviewSwatches07_zps424273c6.jpg

Smashbox Blush in Pop of Pink ( I can’t find this sold alone, maybe it is LE to this set? )
I really love this blush. This is a reddened/berry pink with a soft shimmer. The finish is more of a satin but maybe a hint matte as well. This shade has great pigmentation, a little goes a long way. I can see myself wearing this a lot more this fall! I liked this so much I picked up another Smashbox blush fro another line.

 photo SmashboxPopofPinkSetReviewSwatches04_zps73669c58.jpg

Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in Posy Pink ( retails for $19 )
This is probably my favorite of the collection. I liked this lipstick so much that I actually went out & bought another shade. I have a sneaking suspicion that won’t be the last one either! Posy Pink is a very wearable pink with a creamy finish. I didn’t need to swipe more than once or twice for an even layer on my lips. The pigmentation was pretty but soft, not harsh or hard to wear at all. This also wore beautifully & lasted a lot longer than expected. The best thing about it? It is actually quite hydrating! The tube is smaller than most of my lipsticks but it has a really nice weight to it which makes it feel very sturdy. No flimsy cap here, I approve this for the purse!

 photo SmashboxPopofPinkSetReviewSwatches02_zps7c9927f1.jpg

Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara in Jet Black ( retails for $19.50 )
This is a full size in Jet Black which is the shade I would choose on my own as well. I haven’t tried this YET but I might do a first impression video/review in the future. i just have too many mascaras open at the moment! I have heard that this is a nice mascara so I’m excited to open her up!

 photo SmashboxPopofPinkSetReviewSwatches09_zps656db5c7.jpg
 photo SmashboxPopofPinkSetReviewSwatches08_zps34f65fd7.jpg

Left to right: Smashbox Blush in Pop of Pink, Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in Posy Pink, & Smashbox Reflection High Shine Lip Gloss in Pop of Pink.

Just in case pink isn’t your thing, there is also the Smashbox Hint of Bronze set which also retails for only $29 from ULTA currently.

I love this set, such a great value for Smashbox products! Pink is totally my thing throughout most of the year but I’d love a set like this devoted to maybe corals or seasons? I’d keep buying them for sure! What do you think of this set? Will you be checking it out?

NYX Blush in Cinnamon Swatches & Review

I bought it. Affiliate links.

So let me start with I had definite reservations about the NYX Blush in Cinnamon. I love orange (especially red leaning or tangerine) on my cheeks with a light hand but I had seen really inconsistent reviews on this blush. If you look at this post from Corallista it looks much fairer & definitely softer. I’d seen it in the store & it didn’t look to be that shade at all! Was it a case of those dreaded ULTA lights? Maybe not… Because then I checked on this review from Coffee & Makeup & it looked much more like the tangerine shade I had spotted. I did note that both reviews had a year or more between them, perhaps the shade/texture/formula went through a change? Obviously I wasn’t sure what I was going to end up with! Keep reading to see my thoughts & review!

NYX Blushes come packaged in black plastic packaging with a clear window on top so you can see which shade you’re reaching for. It isn’t bad packaging but it also doesn’t feel like it is high quality either. You get 4 grams of product. I’ve seen a lot of people depot these & if I ever develop enough of a love or collection of them I would probably do the same. The pan inside is relatively flat.

Inside the blush has a raised pyramid quilt. It is pretty & I like this a lot. The shade itself is described as a “matte bright orange” but I don’t think it is quite right. This swatches slightly satin which isn’t a bad thing. It looks really nice & probably blends better because of this. On the ULTA website (& all the other retailers I found) this shade appears way more tangerine & bright. I have no idea why. It is definitely more orange with some pink with slightly warm tones. The pictures are a bit brighter than it is in real life & more orange.

The swatch on the left is with my finger & on the right is blended out a bit. You can see if gives a nice flush & actually looks a bit more hot coral when blended out. This really rocks my fair skin…in a great way.

I don’t know if the formula/shade changed but I really like what I have. I bought this on ULTA when it was on sale which I highly recommend. They frequently do Buy One Get One 50% off or 40% off all NYX here & there. It blends nicely & doesn’t look plastic-y on the skin like some oranges. I was afraid it was going to be powdery & it wasn’t that either. The wear time isn’t phenomenal but that’s what summer is to me. I really like this with a cream blush base to amp up wear time & to play with color combos a bit.

I haven’t been very impressed with the NYX products I’ve bought so far but this was definitely a pleasant surprise. This has me willing to jump in & try some more. Do you have any recommendations? Any shades in particular?

King & Maxwell on TNT Will Get the Mystery Sleuths Going! + Giveaway!

June 3, 2013 By StephanieLouise 423Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F06%2Fking-maxwell-on-tnt-will-get-mystery.htmlKing+%26+Maxwell+on+TNT+Will+Get+the+Mystery+Sleuths+Going%21+%2B+Giveaway%212013-06-03+14%3A46%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F06%2Fking-maxwell-on-tnt-will-get-the-mystery-sleuths-going-giveaway.html

I’m a very lucky girl because today I get to bring you my personal thoughts on a new series. King & Maxwell, based on the popular books written by David Baldacci, will premiere on TNT Monday, June 10th at 10/9c. I got to watch the pilot episode & I have to say I am excited! If you are a lover of all things crime, mystery, & witty then I think you’ll really get a kick of it too.

 photo King-and-Maxwell-Season-1-Poster_zps50d00f6c.jpg

The main characters are Sean King (played by Jon Tenney ) & Michelle Maxwell (played by Rebecca Romijn). Both are ex-Secret Service which gives them actual training & knowledge. A pet peeve of mine is when characters suddenly know how to disarm a man in under 3 seconds without any training. C’mon now. These two also have the chops for crime solving although the pilot eludes to both former agents not being quite up to certain tasks.

I’ve actually read a few of the books this series is based on so I feel like I have a different perspective as well. The characters in the pilot are definitely Baldacci’s creations. This makes me sigh with relief since when you read a great series, you hate to see characters change too much. I also noticed there will be differences in the plot which also makes me happy because it will be truly “based upon” not word for word . Sean still reads romance novels & Michelle is still an outdoorsy, organizer.

If you are an avid crime show watcher, here is what you might want to know before watching King & Maxwell.
1. Although Rebecca Romijn is arguably one of the most beautiful women ever, they don’t focus on it. This isn’t one of those shows where shes pretty so she gets whatever she wants. In fact I think they worked pretty hard to make her “average” looking. Okay she’s still gorgeous but you know what I mean.
2. There appears to be chemistry between the two main characters…but that also isn’t the main point. This might be a side or future theme but this is definitely a crime show.
3. There is humor. Because they have great chemistry the humor is also great. It isn’t over the top or kitschy but makes a crime drama more fun for me to watch personally. There are some great sarcastic quips spread throughout.
4. I’ll be watching it. & if you want to be cool, you will check it out too! Monday, June 10th at 10/9c on TNT. Be there or be square.
