My Favorite Demeter Cologne Sprays for Summer 2013

July 24, 2013 By StephanieLouise 364Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F07%2Fmy-favorite-demeter-cologne-sprays-for.htmlMy+Favorite+Demeter+Cologne+Sprays+for+Summer+20132013-07-24+13%3A34%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F07%2Fmy-favorite-demeter-cologne-sprays-for-summer-2013.html

Scents are so important to me. I haven’t done a collection video/post yet but maybe I should to illustrate that. I have tons of scents from colognes to perfumes to mists. It just doesn’t feel like summer until I break out the summer scents! This summer I wanted to share the Demeter scents I’ve been absolutely loving the most! Demeter fragrances are single note fragrances that often tie in to memories or experiences.

 photo DemeterSummer2013FragrancePicks03_zps0f5b408b.jpg

From the Demeter site: The Demeter Fragrance Library consists of more than 250 different fragrances inspired by everyday objects and experiences. These are simple, friendly and familiar scents, scents inspired by the beautiful smells that surround us everyday, adjusted to be both recognizable and wearable. The assortment includes wonderful smells like Vanilla Cake Batter, Baby Powder and Honeysuckle, and many more unusual fragrances, like Dirt, Leather and Gin & Tonic. We are the physical and literal manifestation of “stopping to smell the roses,” convincing people to enjoy and appreciate the beautiful smells that surround us all the time.

Demeter Pick-Me-Up Cologne Spray in Dragon Fruit- First off, I have no idea what fresh dragon fruit smells like. Not a clue. What I do know is that I break this out ever summer with a big grin. It smells like sparkling fruit, slightly citrus-y & really juicy. Yum. I layer this with all kinds of summer fragrances & it blends seamlessly.

Demeter Pick-Me-Up Cologne Spray in Rice Paddy- The absolute most unlikely scent for me to love. I am pretty much never drawn to oriental scents so this was a big surprise for both myself & my husband! I use the Demeter Pick-Me-Up Cologne Spray in Clean Skin a lot in the fall & apparently I think this is the summer version! Bright green notes, water, & emerging rice make this scent completely unique & surprisingly wearable.

Demeter Pick-Me-Up Cologne Spray in Sunshine- Totally blew my mind. I had always wondered why Demeter didn’t have a Sunshine scent! Apparently they were getting it absolutely perfect & it took over 3 years! Imagine a “The touch, the feel of cotton” commercial where they’re twirling in the sunshine. That is what this smells like: warm, clean, a dash of clean laundry, & fresh cotton. Wow.

Demeter Pick-Me-Up Cologne Spray in Saltwater Taffy- This is such a special scent for me, tied to memories of summer. I only got saltwater taffy during the summertime on family vacations & I was the only one who ate it. Just the scent of this reminds me of my parents who I miss so much because we’re stationed far away thanks to the Air Force. This smells like the lightness of the saltwater taffy with a tinge of salt. Perfection.

Demeter Pick-Me-Up Cologne Spray in Moonbeam- Inspired by Love’s Philosophy by Percy Shelley this is a completely unique scent. A “foody floral” is a totally different realm for me & completely enticing. With hits of vanilla & chocolate in the beginning you also get green leaves, jasmine, lily of the valley, amber, & precious woods. The “contrasts between dark & light” is simply divine.

Demeter Pick-Me-Up Cologne Spray in Jolly Rancher Smooth Watermelon- I feel bad because I think this was limited edition…but I couldn’t imagine a summer favorites without it! Watermelon is very possibly my favorite flavor ever…of like everything. Frozen yogurt, candy, fresh watermelon…I’m all about it. I’ve had this for awhile now & it isn’t available on the Demeter site anymore but if you can manage to get your hands on it…do so! It just makes me instantly happy.

Demeter Pick-Me-Up Cologne Sprays are quick bursts of memory. They don’t last as long as other fragrances but when layered & anchored with other types of fragrance (think lotions, oils, etc.) then you can. I use most of my scents in my office for a jolt of wonderful. On top of that, all Demeter fragrances are 95% natural ingredients derived from natural or renewable sources. No artificial colors, phthalates, or binders either. You can purchase Demeter products directly from the Demeter website, Walgreens, & Rite Aid. There are other stores as well which you can view here.

I have always directed people to Demeter for specific whiffs of memory, from tomatoes to dark chocolate to chalk to crayons. They pretty much have it all & if they don’t…keep an eye out because they’re likely off perfecting it in a lab somewhere.

Do you own any Demeter products? Which scents appeal to you? What triggers your memories?

7 Things I’ve Learned About Beauty Photos Shown by my Pets

1. Beauty sleep is key. The more sleep you get the better you’ll look & feel. I just wish I looked this cute doing it!

 photo GizzyDrunkDemonPhoto_zps0bd5aa64.jpg

2. There will always be those days when you can’t get a good shot, especially of yourself. Sometimes you’re just going to look like a drunk demon. Take a break & try again!

 photo CoboandDaddy_zpse9fcb4dd.jpg

3. Lean on a friend, in my case my husband. Sometimes I just need to vent or have help rationalizing. Having someone listen to my specific type of crazy is very helpful.

 photo CobosGototonguepose_zps56262c7a.jpg

4. Find your best poses from multiple shots. Try lots of angles & holding the camera different ways. I have uneven features which can really look odd so I try to show them so they look their best.

 photo FeatherGizmoLighting_zps6647f056.jpg

5. Use lighting to your advantage. At first you may feel silly but it really helps!

 photo Confidentpets_zps7d437c1b.jpg

6. Be relaxed & comfortable, tension really comes across in photos. Find an angle that suits you then take a deep breath & use a real smile.

 photo RidiculousPets_zpsfa8b9d62.jpg

7. Be confident. Even if other people think your box makes you look silly give it a shot! Trying new things is what makes photos interesting! Obviously you can go too far but you won’t know until you try!

Arices Hostess Soap Review

Want to use the most beautiful soap like…ever? Look no further! This is absolutely the prettiest soap I’ve ever gotten my hands on. Seriously, so pretty. Keep reading to see more!

This floral soap is the perfect addition to any bath set. Everyone can enjoy this soothing oatmeal bar. Delicately scented with rose, it is evocative of tradition with modern and soothing lavender heightened with citrus. Bursting with real dried flowers, this soap is a delight.
 photo Arices03_zps321a114b.jpg
Check out the gorgeous wrapping job! It arrived in perfect condition & it even has a beautiful wax seal. Seriously classy. I love the scent, it is delicate & girly without being too feminine. I love the addition of the rose petals for the pop of color too!
I think this is a beautiful gift. This would be an awesome hostess gift, teacher’s gift, or maybe for mother’s day. I used the bottom of the soap to test…I couldn’t stand the idea of messing it up! That is seriously the only “flaw”… that it is possibly too fabulous. Arices LLC sources all their ingredients from American suppliers which is also nice since I feel like I’m supporting a lot of small businesses. You can purchase this & other lovely items from their online shop.

NEW Maybelline Color Tattoo Pure Pigments Eyeshadow Swatches & Review

When it comes to eyeshadows from the drugstore, the Maybelline Color Tattoos are easily some of my favorites. I wear them as eyeshadow bases nearly day to day & also wear them on their own. When I heard they were coming out with pigments…I was ecstatic. I LOVE pigments! These are the first true mainstream/drugstore pigments I’ve tried that weren’t some form of sheer. After reading some reviews I picked up 7 shades. I have since picked up all but one! Keep reading to see my swatches & thoughts! [Read more…]

I bought it. Affiliate links.

When it comes to Birchbox there just isn’t much consistency. Last month (you can see that post here!) was quite nice actually but this month…not impressed. I always do the box sneak peek & was pretty excited by some of the brands…but once in my hands…well just keep reading…

 photo birchboxJuly201304_zps2933023f.jpg
 photo birchboxJuly201305_zpsa5764a7b.jpg

 photo birchboxJuly201302_zpsb705a7f3.jpg
In this month’s box we have a few new products & one I’ve gotten in a Birchbox before. I apologize for not having an accompanying video this month. I’m finally just now well & will be back to filming/uploading soon!

Kerastase Bain Chrima Riche-Cleanse- 2 foil packets of shampoo. Meh. Not thrilling.

Purminerals CC Creeam Broad Spectrum SPF 40 in Light- This is the only item in this Birchbox that ended up being exciting for me. For one thing, Light is an actual shade match for me. I liked the texture & thickness. It helped even but wasn’t my favorite. Still, a nice sample.

 photo birchboxJuly201303_zps9931d39a.jpg

The Balm  InStain Long Wearing Staining Blush- This is a TINY sample! I was SO excited to see in my box preview that The Balm products would be included but this is pretty much impossible to use as a blush. I have it here next to a bottle of Butter LONDON nail polish for reference. The color is pretty but I haven’t bothered trying to use it.

Benta Berry G-1 Moisturizing Face Cream- Another very tiny sample & actually one I’ve gotten before. I wasn’t wowed the first time so maybe I’ll save this to giveaway.

Extra- 2 patterned bobby pins. They’re cute but I don’t use flat pins often, they don’t hold my fine hair well.

All in all, not all that impressed. I’m bummed. After last month I thought Birchbox was on an upswing but perhaps I was just overexcited. Boo. Here’s to hopping for a better box next month I suppose! Birchbox is a monthly beauty subscription service that costs only $10 a month, to find out more check out their site & sign up!

Mint Manicure for Talia Joy with Zoya & Rainbows

July 19, 2013 By StephanieLouise 369Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F07%2Fmint-manicure-for-talia-joy-with-zoya.htmlMint+Manicure+for+Talia+Joy+with+Zoya+%26+Rainbows2013-07-19+19%3A46%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F07%2Fmint-manicure-for-talia-joy-with-zoya-rainbows.html

I have to be honest with you guys, I had a really hard time writing this post. It is so hard to find positivity in the death of a child. Simply breaks my heart. As an online community, Nail Polish Wars brought us together to honor the life of Talia Joy. Talia had 2 very rare forms of cancer yet lived her life through positivity & beauty. Through her passing we have come together in the form of mint manicures, the last photo she posted on her Instagram account.

 photo TaliaMintManicureZoyaRainbowLaser02_zps4bc853e1.jpg
 photo TaliaMintManicureZoyaRainbowLaser01_zps245c68b6.jpg

I went with Zoya Neely because it is just such a soft, beautiful minty green. I used rainbow laser strands to create a soft, heavenly feel. I imagined it like rainbows coming down. On my pointer is a stripe-ish application of Ocean Mist foil. I topped it with a small bow. I hope she would like it. I’m very sad about this, I’ve followed her for a long time & felt connected.

She was an inspirational young girl & will be very missed. Whenever a person dies of a cancer we are saddened but children strike an especially painful chord. Please feel free to add your mint manicure to the collaboration. Even if you don’t have a blog, post it on twitter & Instagram & use the hashtags #MintManisForTaliaJoy & #TaliasLegacy.

Just keep swimming….

Sally Hansen Sugar Coats Swatches & Review Part 3 (NEW!)

July 12, 2013 By StephanieLouise 372Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F07%2Fsally-hansen-sugar-coats-swatches.htmlSally+Hansen+Sugar+Coats+Swatches+%26+Review+Part+3+%28NEW%21%292013-07-12+20%3A04%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F07%2Fsally-hansen-sugar-coats-swatches-review-part-3-new.html

Textured nails have been a hit for me. They wear really well & I am loving having something a bit different. Sometimes you just need to switch it up! Sally Hansen Sugar Coat nail polishes have been a fun way to dive into this trend. If you caught Part 1 ( check out these pastel/springy shades!) & Part 2 (primary & basic shades!) then you noticed none of them had any shimmer. Today I fix that! I picked up two containing shimmer (like OPI Liquid Sands or Zoya Pixie Dusts which I also reviewed) & then two original shades without shimmer. I finally found a gorgeous purple, stunning teal, & two unique shimmers. Keep reading for the breakdown!
I applied 2 coats of each shade, no top coat for each shade except Royal icing which required more.

 photo SallyHansenSugarCoatsPt304_zps38f85721.jpg

 photo SallyHansenSugarCoatsPt302_zpsc5ee5519.jpg

 photo SallyHansenSugarCoatsPt303_zps67025f3f.jpg

Sally Hansen Sugar Coat Nail Polish in Royal Icing- Sheer light blue with fine pink/gold shimmer. This is a pretty sheer shade, this is 3 coats. I will definitely use a base next time. This is the sheer, textured version of Sinful Colors Cinderella. Much more impressive in person.

 photo SallyHansenSugarCoatsPt309_zpsc1dcb0c0.jpg
 photo SallyHansenSugarCoatsPt308_zps8b86c822.jpg

Sally Hansen Sugar Coat Nail Polish in Spare-A-Mint?- A perfect teal. I feel like this one has a really nice texture & was pretty opaque! You might be able to get away with one coat but 2 thin ones lends better texture.

 photo SallyHansenSugarCoatsPt307_zps19f92519.jpg
 photo SallyHansenSugarCoatsPt305_zps1074198c.jpg

Sally Hansen Sugar Coat Nail Polish in Pink Sprinkle- A cranberry jelly type base with irregular glitters that look gold & copper/light bronze. I love this one, such a gorgeous combo for fall!

 photo SallyHansenSugarCoatsPt3011_zpsc28494eb.jpg
 photo SallyHansenSugarCoatsPt3013_zpsd641b243.jpg
 photo SallyHansenSugarCoatsPt3012_zps6a38dd07.jpg

Sally Hansen Sugar Coat Nail Polish in Gummy Grape- A medium grape purple with cooler tones than most of my other purples.

 photo SallyHansenSugarCoatsPt301_zps4a7dc6ba.jpg

I’m really happy with the 4 shades I picked up from this new collection! I found mine at Walgreens on a specialty display. As far as I know these are all limited edition so if you want them, you’ll have to snap them up! What do you think of these shades? Do you prefer textured polishes with shimmer or without?

My Morning Summer Skincare Routine with Simple Skincare

July 11, 2013 By StephanieLouise 373Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F07%2Fmy-morning-summer-skincare-routine-with.htmlMy+Morning+Summer+Skincare+Routine+with+Simple+Skincare2013-07-11+14%3A36%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F07%2Fmy-morning-summer-skincare-routine-with-simple-skincare.html

 photo SimpleSummerSkincarePSD_edited-6_zps2d7f86f3.jpg

PR Sample. I bought it. Affiliate links.

Simple has taken my skincare routine by storm. For months I knew I was being too harsh on my skin. Too much scrubbing. Too much stripping. Too much unnecessary damage. Sometimes when I go through terrible breakouts (hormonal or stress induced usually) I tend to overreact. Getting back on track can be tough, especially during these hot humid months. So what is a girl to do? Well Simple totally had my back. Check out more details on my morning skincare routine using Simple products below!

1. The first thing I do to my skin in the morning is wash it! I’ve been absolutely loving the Simple Kind to Skin Vital Vitamin Foaming Cleanser. Normally I can’t use foaming cleansers because I have dry skin but this doesn’t strip my skin which I definitely appreciate. This is super light, fast, removes grime from sleeping, & it also takes away any traces of makeup I might have missed the night before.

2. So I don’t use a scrub everyday because I usually use my Clarisonic which helps exfoliate gently but I tend to apply a scrub to more dry areas about 3 times a week. I’ve been opting for the Simple Kind to Skin Smoothing Facial Scrub because it is nice & fine. It feels like a lot of my high end scrubs. I apply very gently so it doesn’t irritate my skin at all.

3. I have eyelids that are a touch more dry than I prefer so I do this step next. Plus I do my eye makeup first so these products have to “sink in” before I start! I start with the Simple Kind To Eyes Revitalising Eye Roll-On. I’ve heard some controversy about roll-on products around the eyes but I love it. It is slightly cooling which tends to perk up my tired looking eyes. It helps me wake up!

4. At night I use a heavy duty eye cream to really moisturize but during the day I need something a bit lighter. During summer I have to find something that lightly moisturizes & that won’t be too slick in the humidity when I wear eye makeup. Simple Kind to Eyes Soothing Eye Balm doesn’t contain anything unnecessary so it doesn’t dry out my skin. I don’t need the area around my eyes to smell good…I just think adding scent to products like this is odd! Thanks Simple for not just throwing things in there!

5. Next is the Simple Kind to Skin Soothing Facial Toner. For many years I didn’t use a toner but now my skincare routine feels lacking without it. I apply a splash to a cotton round then use gentle circular motions around my face.

6. My last step is probably the one I am most excited about for summer, a light moisturizer! The Simple Kind to Skin Light Moisturizer is oil free & contains SPF 15. I find that I have to use something lighter in this humidity or my makeup will melt off my face! This is perfect, moisturizing & contains SPF while not being too much.

So there you have it! Simple has had my heart & I’ve loved everything I’ve tried so far. No animal derived ingredients, easy to follow instructions, & they don’t contain anything harsh on my skin. On top of all that,
you can find Simple products for a bargain price & at stores you likely frequent. I urge you to give them a shot! I have more favorites I’ll be sharing soon…I’m becoming a real convert!
