Birchbox for August 2013 featuring Stila, Derma E, & More!

Birchbox doesn’t always make me happy but when it does it stuns. This month I got some awesome products from recognizable brands in pretty good sizes. Keep reading to see what the August Birchbox labeled “Finishing School” is all about!

Like the Ipsy bag I shared yesterday (which is also $10 a month!), the theme is about going back to school. Although I’m ancient & no longer attend school I kind of expect this theme every year. The box is the regular (well kind of new, less girly) version of Birchbox so nothing new. As always it comes with your info card which I included.

 photo BirchboxAugust201301_zps411436bd.jpg

This month I got 4 items & a beauty extra:

Derma E Hyaluronic Hydrating Mist- This is a full size sample which retails for $13.50 so this pays for my box right off the bat! I am a huge fan of facial mists/sprays so I was thrilled to see this included. Basically this will refresh your makeup when it looks a bit powdery or when your skin looks a bit dry. Having combination dry skin myself, these products are lifesavers! This also claims to help set makeup in place.

EVOLVh Ultrashine Moisture Conditioner- I haven’t personally tried this yet but the sample is a nice 2 fl oz, much better than a foil packet! This claims to be made from 20 different herbs & will make my strands “obedient” which is a new claim for me! I expected to smell…well…herbal! But instead I smell a slight floral, not a very strong scent in the bottle. I have some full sizes of this product tucked away that I still haven’t tried…thanks for the reminder Birchbox!

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick- Yay, Stila! This is their new liquid lipstick & my shade is a fierce red called beso. Beso means kiss in Spanish (thanks high school!) & this is definitely a sexy shade! If you aren’t familiar with liquid lipsticks they apply like a pigmented gloss but are supposed to wear like a stain. This definitely stayed put for the few hours I wore it but I need to do some more testing before I can call a verdict! So far, extremely pigmented & smells of vanilla pound cake!

Whish Exfoliating Body Wash- I can always use a good exfoliating wash, perfect for self tanning! This one smells like coconut with a hint of citrus & claims to also brighten.

Extra** Whish Hair Inhibiting Deodorant Swipes- I haven’t tried this but it looks perfect for travel…especially getting off a plane! I always use wet wipes afterwards…I just feel grimey until I can jump into a shower! Not a bad extra, at least I’ll use it!

I got a pretty nice variety this month & products I’m actually interested in either trying now or reserving for travel. If you’re interested in signing up for Birchbox it is only $10 a month (referral link!) & it has a pretty great point system. The way it works out if you do the monthly quizzes you usually pay around$5 which is great! This box paid for itself with one product I actually really enjoy, I can’t ask for more!

Zoya Fall-ing Leaves Abstract Nail Art!

August 27, 2013 By StephanieLouise 335Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F08%2Fzoya-fall-ing-leaves-abstract-nail-art.htmlZoya+Fall-ing+Leaves+Abstract+Nail+Art%212013-08-27+23%3A40%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F08%2Fzoya-fall-ing-leaves-abstract-nail-art.html

I love fall so much- the plums, the changing colors, vampy looks…fabulous. When I swatched the Zoya Fall 2013 Cashmere & Satin Collections (check out the Satin Collection & the Cashmere Collection swatches here!) I knew I wanted to do a little impromptu nail art to get into the fall spirit. Keep reading to see which shades I used & how it turned out!

 photo ZoyaFall-ingLeavesNailArt02_zps48f66994.jpg

I decided to go with a classic red base using Zoya Livingston. I created abstract leaves using the shades Louise, Giovanna, & Channing. I pulled a dot of color out using a nail art tool with a point, nothing complicated. Then I added the spectacular Zoya Maria Luisa to the tips for a bit more dimension. Last I added a top coat to seal it all together.

Welp that’s it for my first fall nail art post! It feels like fall is coming sooner than ever this year, does anyone else feel the same? I can also smell the pumpkin pie!

IPSY Bag for August 2013 featuring Urban Decay, Smashbox, & More!

Back to school type subscription boxes/bags usually aren’t my favorite but I am very happy with this Ipsy bag! Although I’m long out of school I wouldn’t mind this type of theme as long as they aren’t too ridiculously youthful. Am I younger? I’d like to think so…but that doesn’t mean I want a bag of teenie bopper products. Ipsy must have read my mind, keep reading to find out why this is one of my favorites!

 photo IpsyAugust201301_zps70076967.jpg
 photo IpsyAugust201303_zps39d6b29a.jpg

The bag this month was school themed & royal purple. Not exactly a hit with me but I WILL say it is made really well this month! It has multiple layers & feels like it would have actually held up in my book bag back in the day. As usual the Ipsy card displays all the brands you or others may have received this month along with some discounts which you can access on their website.

 photo IpsyAugust201304_zps9fbfda1f.jpg

The item I was most excited about is one of the brand new Revolution lipsticks from Urban Decay! Yes, this is a mini but I have been contemplating these from afar. The shade I received is in 69 which is a beautiful pink toned red. Raunchy name, gorgeous color! I am really pleased & this size is absolutely perfect for a little clutch or to keep in my purse for a day to night transition shade. (Swatch at the end of the post!)

 photo IpsyAugust201305_zpse0de1e33.jpg

Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer also graced my bag. I love these samples, I still haven’t had to buy a full size as I just keep rotating them along with my other primers. I know it makes a lot of people break out which is a shame & I do prefer their light version but I appreciate it all the same.

 photo IpsyAugust201306_zpsfc0f4d7a.jpg

Pixi seems to work with Ipsy a lot & this month I received their Lash Booster Mascara in a deluxe sample tube. I haven’t tried this yet but I might save it for when I work my way through a few opened tubes or on vacation. This is in the shade Blackest Black.

 photo IpsyAugust201307_zps0978815d.jpg

Michael Todd products are all the rage currently & I believe this is my first time trying them. Youtube was pretty flooded with girls who received freebies & I’ve honestly kind of avoided the reviews after watching a few because there were just SO many. This is the Michael Todd Pumpkin Nutrient- Rich Facial Mask which “moisturizes & nourishes all skin types except sensitive”. Interesting that this isn’t mean for sensitive skin! I personally adore pumpkin products for the enzymes & this likely would have been the one product I’d select on my own from the brand.

 photo IpsyAugust201308_zps6ec9fb0b.jpg

My last product is a full size Mica Beauty Shimmer Powder in 17 Bronze. I really love this shade but I do have a lot like it, I tend to gravitate to either the outrageous shades or neutrals. Very pretty & very metallic.

 photo IpsyAugust201309_zps6901b326.jpg

Swatches of the Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in 69 & Mica Shimmer Powder in 17 Bronze.

This month Ipsy delivered a pretty nice variety in my bag & I am excited to show it to you! Some months are just kind of okay even if it is worth the $10 a month but others really blow me away. This was an overall nice bag, on trend brands with products I’d actually use which is honestly so important. If I don’t use them…what’s the point right? If you’re interested in subscribing to Ipsy it is only $10 a month, please use my referral link so I’ll get credit for you signing up!

What do you think of this bag? See anything you’d be interested in a full review on? Any products in particular catch your eye?

Love a shiny manicure? Me too! I reviewed two of the new SinfulShine Nail Polishes when I first saw them back in May (check out SinfulShine Alfresco & Mardi Gras here!) but now I have 2 more! I chose SinfulShine in Set the Mood& Royal Flush in anticipation of fall, don’t they just look fall ready? Keep reading to check them out!

 photo SinfulShineRoyalFlush01_zps56c5723f.jpg

SinfulShine Nail Polish in Royal Flush- Purple toned fuchsia creme. 1 coat. No top coat.

SinfulShine is a collection from Sinful Colors, a brand I cover a lot on this blog & buy frequently. The SinfulShine line retails for $2.99 each & there are 32 high shine shades available exclusively at Walgreens. They have also released a new limited edition collection for Fall 2013…I hope to see them release many more because I really enjoy this formula!

These are definitely high shine & only one coaters! Awesome! I love these two shades, especially for fall. The formula & shades are just overall great. They actually last very nicely on my nails too without damage…& no top coat or extra steps needed!

Smashbox Halo Long Wear Blush in In Bloom Swatches & Review

August 23, 2013 By StephanieLouise 338Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F08%2Fsmashbox-halo-long-wear-blush-in-in.htmlSmashbox+Halo+Long+Wear+Blush+in+In+Bloom+Swatches+%26+Review2013-08-23+20%3A07%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F08%2Fsmashbox-halo-long-wear-blush-in-in-bloom-swatches-review.html

 photo SmashboxHaloLongWearBlushInBloom01_zps45aec8d7.jpg

I bought it. Affiliate links.

Smashbox has 6 blushes on the market unlike any I own so obviously I had to play with them! I bought my at my local BX (my husband is in the Air Force & it is a store on base) but I checked them out at Sephora as well. I chose the Smashbox Halo Long Wear Blush in In Bloom because it is such a “me” shade: pink with a tinge of coral. Keep reading to see why this blush is different from the others in my stash!

From the Smashbox website-  Inspired by our best-selling Halo powder! Get a luminous, lit-from-within flush with our new long-wearing blush. The signature grinder shaves off just the right amount, so you’ll get the perfect flush every time. Buildable color allows for full control-dust on more color for even rosier radiance.

 photo SmashboxHaloLongWearBlushInBloom02_zps653b4d9d.jpg
 photo SmashboxHaloLongWearBlushInBloom03_zpsd36e502b.jpg

So basically this is a grinder blush! I think I’ve seen something similar from perhaps NYX but it isn’t common. The goal is a mess free & user friendly application of blush! After opening the box you’ll see a round, black Smashbox case that houses the blush & a slim mirror. It feels sturdy. You get a label over the grinder as well so you should start with a nice clean blush!

 photo SmashboxHaloLongWearBlushInBloom04_zpsc533d9fd.jpg
 photo SmashboxHaloLongWearBlushInBloom05_zpsa47de45b.jpg

After removing the label you will see the actual holes for the grinder. See the outside ring that matches the blush shade? That is what you turn to grind the powder up! Don’t turn it much! I did above & you can see…that’s a lot of blush folks! I will say that I tend to use a bigger blush brush so this small opening isn’t the easiest to grab product & tap of excess. I like the idea of this blush much more than other loose shades however! I never travel with loose blushes but I would travel with this one!

 photo SmashboxHaloLongWearBlushInBloom06_zpsbebfa76b.jpg

The color itself is a coral-y pink. Beautiful. It is super buildable. You can start with a sheer wash like the blended swatch above or go nuts with the full kick of color! Whatever your heart desires! I find this blush to stay put for about 7 hours looking like the first application & then it gradually (& naturally) fades. That is a great wear time for me personally!

Overall, a lovely blush! Pretty color, sheer or built up! This blush retails for $24.00 from Sephora, Nordstrom, & the Smashbox website. Next time you’re interested in a new blush (or like to own allllll the blushes like me!) then check this one out!

It Cosmetics Limited Edition Heavenly Luxe Vanity Brush Set Review!

August 21, 2013 By StephanieLouise 340Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F08%2Fit-cosmetics-limited-edition-heavenly.htmlIt+Cosmetics+Limited+Edition+Heavenly+Luxe+Vanity+Brush+Set+Review%212013-08-21+20%3A02%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F08%2Fit-cosmetics-limited-edition-heavenly-luxe-vanity-brush-set-review.html

 photo ItCosmeticsLimitedEditionHeavenlyluxeVanityBrushSet01_zps533480b6.jpg

PR Sample. Affiliate links.

It Cosmetics has some of the best brushes & their Limited Edition Heavenly Luxe Vanity Brush Set is no exception! If you look back at my reviews of the It Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Pointed Precision Luminizer Brush, Heavenly Luxe Buffing Airbrush Foundation Brush, & It Cosmetics French Boutique Blush Brush then you know I’m already a huge It Cosmetics brush fan. They’re spectacularly soft & luxurious. This set is crazy priced at a bargain as well, keep reading to find out why I love it!
From QVC: A collection of six full-size, ultra-plush brushes, designed to give you a flawless airbrushed application. Store and display these gorgeous brushes in the provided ultra-luxe vanity case. Developed with plastic surgeons, each fabulous Heavenly Luxe brush distributes your favorite cosmetics evenly without tugging on the delicate skin and eye area. Perfect for even the most sensitive skin types.

 photo ItCosmeticsLimitedEditionHeavenlyluxeVanityBrushSet02_zps42ba3737.jpg

I love the packaging & storage for these brushes. I’ve been eying similar cases from other brands but had yet to pull the trigger. My favorite part is that unlike my brush roll, your brushes can breathe & I can set them out while travel to use easily. So happy with it! One side has a divider & the other is open. I use the divided side for smaller brushes & the bigger for fluffy, large brushes.

Included in the set along with the case are 6 brushes: Dual-Airbrush Multi-Powder Brush, Airbrush Flat Foundation Brush, Airbrush Flat Concealer Brush, Airbrush Crease Brush, Airbrush Allover Eyeshadow Brush, & a No-Tug Eyeliner and Brow Brush with Spooly.

 photo ItCosmeticsLimitedEditionHeavenlyluxeVanityBrushSet04_zps92cc56ad.jpg

It Cosmetics Dual-Airbrush Multi-Powder Brush- Huge & giantly soft…this brush alone could retail for the price of this entire set. I personally can’t travel without a brush like this, a multi-tasker. Use it for powder, luminizer, blush, bronzer, anything you need a big brush for & airbrushed type look. Super soft it blends everything out beautifully.

 photo ItCosmeticsLimitedEditionHeavenlyluxeVanityBrushSet03_zps23bcaaf8.jpg

It Cosmetics Airbrush Flat Foundation Brush- This brush is soft enough for undereyes but firm enough for blending. I use this for both concealer & foundation, the curved tip is perfect for delicate areas.

 photo ItCosmeticsLimitedEditionHeavenlyluxeVanityBrushSet05_zps74c895e0.jpg

It Cosmetics No-Tug Eyeliner and Brow Brush with Spooly- I’ve been looking for a good quality brush like this! I love having both a spooly/brush comb & an angled eyebrow brush. This can also be used for eyeliner. I personally use brow powder daily so this is the perfect combo!

 photo ItCosmeticsLimitedEditionHeavenlyluxeVanityBrushSet06_zpsb1bb6296.jpg
 photo ItCosmeticsLimitedEditionHeavenlyluxeVanityBrushSet07_zpsc0d53abd.jpg

It Cosmetics Airbrush Crease Brush, Airbrush Flat Concealer Brush, &  Airbrush Allover Eyeshadow Brush- Although there is a concealer brush I still use the foundation brush for concealer & use this one for cream shadows & bases to blend. When I’m in a hurry I love having multi-use eye brushes & these are wonderfully soft. Absolutely no tugging which is so important around the eyes & face in general.

This set is limited edition It Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Vanity Brush Set is available from QVC (or The Shopping Channel internationally) & is only $39.50 which is ridiculously affordable. Seriously, I was shocked. Definitely worth way more so snap it up while you can!

Wet n Wild Tough Girl Textured Nail Polish Collection Swatches & Review

August 21, 2013 By StephanieLouise 341Leave a Commenthttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F08%2Fwet-n-wild-tough-girl-textured-nail.htmlWet+n+Wild+Tough+Girl+Textured+Nail+Polish+Collection+Swatches+%26+Review2013-08-21+12%3A28%3A00StephanieLouisehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allthingsbeautifulxo.com%2F2013%2F08%2Fwet-n-wild-tough-girl-textured-nail-polish-collection-swatches-review.html

 photo WnWToughGirlTexturedNailPolishesMain_zps43b1b62a.jpg

Wet n Wild finally jumped on the textured nail polish trend! For their Tough Girl Collection they have released some limited edition eyeshadow trios & these limited edition polishes. These shades retail for $3.99 each…pretty pricey for only 0.34 fl oz! All 6 shades are textured with varying finishes & formula, keep reading to find out more!

 photo WnWToughGirlTexturedNailPolishes06_zps2c9e7067.jpg

Let us talk about the packaging/brush first shall we? Do not like. I don’t like the giant cap that makes it hard to see my tiny nail beds. I do not like the ultra fluffy brush that picks up gobs of polish. I hate that because these are textured you have to apply thin coats which is just not conducive to this sort of setup! I really hope they re-think this type of cap/bottle/brush combo in the future, especially for $3.99 a piece. On top of that, these polishes took noticeably longer to dry when compared to my beloved Zoya Pixie Dusts which you can see here or even the OPI Liquid Sands. Why? Not really sure! I feel like these shades weren’t quite the in your face texture as those or the very textured options from Sally Hansen. They didn’t feel nearly as gritty & with some applications they just didn’t look as good. Here is a link to my 3rd review of the Sally Hansen Sugar Coats which contained some awesome shades for fall!

 photo WnWToughGirlTexturedNailPolishes031_zps92fa5f36.jpg
 photo WnWToughGirlTexturedNailPolishes02_zps5ed78a18.jpg

Wet n Wild Textured Nail Color in Femme Trouper- A fair peachy/pink neutral with fine gold shimmer throughout. 2 coats.
I definitely messed up swatching this as this was my first go. I just swatched too thick with that darn brush to begin with. You can still see the texture but not so much the shimmer sadly. Could have probably used 3 ultra thin coats.

 photo WnWToughGirlTexturedNailPolishes03_zps0e0496a8.jpg
 photo WnWToughGirlTexturedNailPolishes04_zpsf82e0cf9.jpg

Wet n Wild Textured Nail Color in Fatigue Glam- A dusty rose/mauve. 2 coats.
This was much thinner & easier to use. While a lot of people dub these types of shades “grandma colors” I found I quite liked it. This looked more textured to me as well. Very even.

 photo WnWToughGirlTexturedNailPolishes07_zpsb40390f7.jpg
 photo WnWToughGirlTexturedNailPolishes08_zps6170ff1a.jpg

Wet n Wild Textured Nail Color in Tough Girl- Medium grey. 2 coats.
Expectantly, this was a bit streaky. While I do like it…this shade took forever to dry & isn’t quite dried down in these photos.

 photo WnWToughGirlTexturedNailPolishes010_zpsc25717ce.jpg
 photo WnWToughGirlTexturedNailPolishes09_zps3882b983.jpg

Wet n Wild Textured Nail Color in Left, Left, Left, Right, Left- A medium bright blue. 2 coats.
This is a brightened version of the oh-so-popular Monaco Blue popping up everywhere for Fall 2013. I really like this shade a lot & I feel like you can get away with wearing it all year! I probably could have gotten away with one coat, very opaque!

 photo WnWToughGirlTexturedNailPolishes011_zps69e4d6a2.jpg
 photo WnWToughGirlTexturedNailPolishes011_zps4b9835dc.jpg

Wet n Wild Textured Nail Color in Beauty is a Battlefield!- An indigo leaning metallic purple. 2 coats.
I wasn’t sure about this on in the bottle but I actually don’t mind it on. For some reason it just didn’t look as textured to me but at least it wasn’t streaky after it dried! I was also pleasantly surprised with the indigo hue once on since it was definitely purple in the bottle.

 photo WnWToughGirlTexturedNailPolishes014_zpsdca94b76.jpg
 photo WnWToughGirlTexturedNailPolishes013_zpsc21be107.jpg
 photo WnWToughGirlTexturedNailPolishes015_zps19e6d785.jpg

Wet n Wild Textured Nail Color in ATTEN Hut!- Metallic silvered olive green with antique gold shimmer. 2 coats.
This looked a bit darker & more olive once on the nail. I love it of course, green + shimmer? Yes. Definitely my favorite from this collection. The shimmer is really pretty as it catches the light & so fall.

 photo WnWToughGirlTexturedNailPolishes01_zps1e011d8e.jpg

So there you have it, all 6 shades! I found mine at Walgreens on a specialty display for $3.99 each, I’m not sure where else they’ve been spotted.

I didn’t have any dupes in this set & it was refreshing to see both shimmers & pure colors. They wear really well as well which is why I’ve hit the textured band wagon so hard. We totally scrubbed down the kitchen with stuff that makes nail polish melt last night (real scrubbing!) & I only have one small chip. Coverup is super easy & you don’t even have to remove the shade beneath! I am excited to see is Wet n Wild comes out with more…I hope someone comes out with a holo textured shade soon! I’ll buy the heck out of that!

Untried Tuesday: OPI Minnie Style Swatches & Review

I bought it. Affiliate links.

So…ready for a new series? I have LOTS of untried or unswatched polishes & every Tuesday I’m going to show you a new one! I think this is going to be a lot of fun for you guys & for me as well! So many polishes…so little time! I’m kicking it off with the only OPI polish I picked up from the OPI Couture de Minnie Collection. Keep reading to see OPI Minnie Style over SinfulShine Set the Mood!

OPI Minnie Style- White, faded red, & hot pink hexes suspended in a clear base. 2 coats. Seen here over SinfulShine Set the Mood.

I feel like this was kind of hard to use unfortunately. My base was kind of gloopy feeling, maybe because I’ve been using so many indie glitters with great consistency. I had to fumble a bit with placement as well. I really do like the glitter combination though! Very Minnie Mouse & unique to my collection. Original enough that I enjoy the shade but not great application. I topped it off with Seche Vite. This was actually my second application of this polish…the first bubbled like mad!

What do you think of this glitter combo? What kinds of polishes would you like to see more of from my stash?

Wow Laura Mercier…you just keep the good times rolling. If you recall, I absolutely loved the Laura Mercier Rouge Nouveau Weightless Lip Colour in Sexy. I’ve worn it so much more than I ever thought & now have 4 fabulous new shades to share in a variety of finishes. I tried to choose shades perfect for fall & I’m absolutely thrilled with each one. Keep reading to find out why the formulas & shades are just perfection!

I wanted to go a bit more in depth with the packaging & such. Laura Mercier seems to have a general feel across the board: Clean silver/grey outer packaging & sleek product packaging.

I love the labels that are each a different shade to correspond to the finish. Each of the first letters stand for their finish (Coy is creme, Mink is matte, Sin is sheer) which is just amazingly handy. I love not having to think twice about what finish I’m looking for. The tubes themselves are long & slim. I find them easy to use & they fill lip contours easily.

Laura Mercier Rouge Nouveau Weightless Lip Colour in Sin- A sheer blackberry toned purple. Gorgeous, it almost looks like jelly! I love how crazy wearable this is, perfect for fall! I feel like this didn’t come across well in the photos, I think I snapped the photos too fast. Much prettier in person!

Laura Mercier Rouge Nouveau Weightless Lip Colour in Coy- Probably my favorite neutral type shade I’ve gotten in a very long time! I love how creamy & moisturizing this looks & feels. Normally I skip peach based neutrals but this shade absolutely rocks on my fair skin.

Laura Mercier Rouge Nouveau Weightless Lip Colour in Mink- I wanted this specifically for fall. I don’t have a shade quite like this which was a crime! This is a medium brick red that has such a crisp fall feel.

Laura Mercier Rouge Nouveau Weightless Lip Colour in Mod- This was my “fun” choice for fall. This is a bright coral red. Absolutely amazing, I cannot get enough! Usually when I wear bright shades in fall they are strictly basic red or purples but this has totally blown me away! I can’t wait to pair this with a basic eye & neutral cheek.

Swatches left to right: Laura Mercier Rouge Nouveau Weightless Lip Colour in Coy, Sin (a few swipes because it is a sheer), Mink, & Mod.

My lips love these lip colors! They are indeed weightless but somehow also very comfortable & pigmented! I can honestly say these are some of the most comfortable matte lipsticks I’ve ever worn. The way they are labeled continues to make me smile, why can’t other brands jump on this thought process? So simple & easy to manage!

If you’re in the market for fabulous lip colors in a variety of finishes ( & what girl isn’t?!) then check out the Laura Mercier Rouge Nouveau Weightless Lip Colours on Macys, Sephora, Saks, Nordstrom, & of course the Laura Mercier website.

Clearly I’m thrilled with every choice! What do you guys think? What shades appeal to you most for Fall?
